In this study, we aimed to enhance the treatment protocols and help understand the harm caused by the accidental ingestion of magnetic beads by children.
Data were collected from 72 children with ...multiple gastrointestinal perforations or gastrointestinal obstructions. The 72 pediatric patients were divided into a perforation and a non-perforation group. The data collected for the analysis included the gender, age, medical history, place of residence (rural or urban), and symptoms along with the educational background of the caregiver, the location and quantity of any foreign bodies discovered during the procedure, whether perforation was confirmed during the procedure, and the number of times magnetic beads had been accidentally ingested.
The accuracy rate of preoperative gastrointestinal perforation diagnosis via ultrasound was 71%, while that of the upright abdominal X-ray method was only 46%. In terms of symptoms, the risk of perforation was 13.844 and 12.703 times greater in pediatric patients who experienced vomiting and abdominal pain with vomiting and abdominal distension, respectively, compared to patients in an asymptomatic state. There were no statistical differences between the perforation and the non-perforation groups in terms of age, gender, medical history, and the number of magnetic beads ingested (P > 0.05); however, there were statistical differences in terms of white blood cell count (P = 0.048) and c-reactive protein levels (P = 0.033). A total of 56% of cases underwent a laparotomy along with perforation repair and 19% underwent gastroscopy along with laparotomy. All pediatric patients recovered without complications following surgery.
Abdominal ultrasonography and/or upright abdominal X-ray analyses should be carried out as soon as possible in case of suspicion of accidental ingestion of magnetic beads by children. In most cases, immediate surgical intervention is required. Given the serious consequences of ingesting this type of foreign body, it is essential to inform parents and/or caregivers about the importance of preventing young children from using such products.
AIM： To investigate the protective effect of medical ozone （O3） combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine （TCM） Yigan Fuzheng Paidu Capsules （YC） against carbon tetrachloride （CCh）-induced hepatic ...injury in dogs. METHODS： Thirty healthy dogs were divided randomly into five groups （n = 6 in each group）, namely control, oleanolic acid tablet （OAT）, O3, YC and O3 ＋ YC, given either no particular pre-treatment, oral OAT, medical ozone rectal insulfflation every other day, oral YC, or oral YC plus medical ozone rectal insulfflation every other day, respectively, for 30 consecutive days. After pre-treatment, acute hepatic injury was induced in all dogs with a single-dose intraperitoneal injection of CCh. General condition and survival time were recorded. The biochemical and hematological indexes of alanine aminotransferase （ALT）, aspartate aminotransferase/ alanine aminotransferase （AST/ALT）, serum total bUirubin （TBIL）, prothrombin time （PT）, blood ammonia （AMMO）, and blood urea nitrogen （BUN） were measured after CCh injection. Hepatic pathological changes were also observed.RESULTS： Compared to the other four groups, the changes of group O3 ＋ YC dogs＇ general conditions （motoricity, mental state, eating, urination and defecation） could be better controlled. In group O3 ＋ YC the survival rates were higher （P 〈 0.05 vs group control）. AST/ALT values were kept within a normal level in group O3 ＋ YC. Hepatic histopathology showed that hepatic injury in group O3 ＋ YC was less serious than those in the other four groups.CONCLUSION： Medical ozone combined with TCM YC could exert a protective effect on acute liver injury induced by CCI4,
Promethazine, a first generation antihistamine,has an antiarrhythmic effect on ischemia-reperfusion inducing arrhythmias^1 and experimental arrhythmias.^2 However, terfenadine as a second generation ...of antihistamine, has been reported to elicit hypotension, bradycardia, prolongation of the QTc interval and torsades de pointes （TdP） like ventricular arrhythmia.^3 This may be due to the blockage on rectifier postassium current （Ik） of terfenadine, resulting in the prolongation of the action potential duration （APD） and dispersion of the repolarization duration, which might provoke a specific form of polymorphic ventricular tachydysrhythmia, i.e. TdP.^4 In clinical practice,however, the class Ⅲ antiarrhythmic agents, which target on the lk and prolong the action potential duration and QTc interval, rarely lead to arrhythmias.Other actions must be considered to underlie the arrhythmogenic tendency of terfenadine besides its inhibition on Ik. Though both promethazine and terfenadine block the H1 receptor, there must be a different pharmacology profile between the two compounds on ion channels of cardiac myocytes.Whole-cell patch clamp technique was used to investigate the effects of these two antagonists of the H1 receptor on the main ion currents in cardiac electrical activities.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease with a high prevalence in the elderly population, but our understanding of its mechanisms remains incomplete. Analysis of serum exosomal small RNA ...sequencing data from clinical patients and gene expression data from OA patient serum and cartilage obtained from the GEO database revealed a common dysregulated miRNA, miR-199b-5p. In vitro cell experiments demonstrated that miR-199b-5p inhibits chondrocyte vitality and promotes extracellular matrix degradation. Conversely, inhibition of miR-199b-5p under inflammatory conditions exhibited protective effects against damage. Local viral injection of miR-199b-5p into mice induced a decrease in pain threshold and OA-like changes. In an OA model, inhibition of miR-199b-5p alleviated the pathological progression of OA. This study deals with grid-connected multi-microgrid system (MMGS) operation scheduling optimization problem using improved marine predators algorithm. Studies are lacking a system operation strategy ...designed to involve the internal power interaction and load demand response in the scheduling manipulation is short. This study involves power interaction and demand response to achieve the MMGS operational economy and reliability. Each MGS is combined to main grid with the continuous use of renewable energy and MMGS rapid development. This study proposes the analytical steps as follows. (1) the MMGS construction model includes wind energy and photovoltaic; (2) the optimization objective function so as to minimize the cost is constructed according to the characteristics of the equipment in the system; (3) a hierarchical improved marine predators algorithm is assumed to boost the optimal effect; (4) the test of the enhanced algorithm is completed and the optimization problem of the total running cost is solved; and; (5) a system operation strategy is designed considering the internal power interaction and load demand response in the MMGS scheduling operation. A different algorithms comparative analysis is performed. The proposed scheduling optimization approach is testified among analysis of specific examples, and the total operating cost is reduced by 11.19%.

The effectiveness of neoadjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy is confirmed in clinical trials; however, the patients suitable for receiving this therapy remain unspecified. Previous ...studies have demonstrated that the tumor microenvironment (TME) dominates immunotherapy; therefore, an effective TME classification strategy is required. In this study, five crucial immunophenotype‐related molecules (WARS, UBE2L6, GZMB, BATF2, and LAG‐3) in the TME are determined in five public gastric cancer (GC) datasets (n = 1426) and an in‐house sequencing dataset (n = 79). Based on this, a GC immunophenotypic score (IPS) is constructed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox, and randomSurvivalForest. IPSLow is characterized as immune‐activated, and IPSHigh is immune‐silenced. Data from seven centers (n = 1144) indicate that the IPS is a robust and independent biomarker for GC and superior to the AJCC stage. Furthermore, patients with an IPSLow and a combined positive score of ≥5 are likely to benefit from neoadjuvant anti‐PD‐1 therapy. In summary, the IPS can be a useful quantitative tool for immunophenotyping to improve clinical outcomes and provide a practical reference for implementing neoadjuvant ICI therapy for patients with GC.
In this study, an immunophenotypic score (IPS) is constructed to quantify the tumor microenvironment effectively in patients with gastric cancer (GC). In addition, the patients with GC and hypo‐IPS identified as immune‐activated status are evaluated and show a good prognosis and are suitable for neoadjuvant anti‐PD‐1 therapy.
Angiomotin‐like 2 (AMOTL2) is a key modulator of signaling transduction and participates in the regulation of various cellular progresses under diverse physiological and pathological conditions. ...However, whether AMOTL2 participates in asthma pathogenesis has not been fully studied. In the present work, we studied the possible role and mechanism of AMOTL2 in regulating transforming growth factor‐β1 (TGF‐β1)‐induced proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition of airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells. Our results showed marked reductions in the abundance of AMOTL2 in TGF‐β1‐stimulated ASM cells. Cellular functional investigations confirmed that the up‐regulation of AMOTL2 dramatically decreased the proliferation and ECM deposition induced by TGF‐β1 in ASM cells. In contrast, the depletion of AMOTL2 exacerbated TGF‐β1‐induced ASM cell proliferation and ECM deposition. Further research revealed that the overexpression of AMOTL2 restrained the activation of Yes‐associated protein 1 (YAP1) in TGF‐β1‐stimulated ASM cells. Moreover, the reactivation of YAP1 markedly reversed AMOTL2‐mediated suppression of TGF‐β1‐induced ASM cell proliferation and ECM deposition. Together, these findings suggest that AMOTL2 restrains TGF‐β1‐induced proliferation and ECM deposition of ASM cells by down‐regulating YAP1 activation.
Specific capacity and cyclic performance are critically important for the electrode materials of rechargeable batteries. Herein, a capacity boost effect of Li- and Na-ion batteries was presented and ...clarified by nitrogen-doped graphene sheets. The reversible capacities progressively increased from 637.4 to 1050.4 mAh g–1 (164.8% increase) in Li-ion cell tests from 20 to 185 cycles, and from 187.3 to 247.5 mAh g–1 (132.1% increase) in Na-ion cell tests from 50 to 500 cycles. The mechanism of the capacity boost is proposed as an electrochemical induced cascading evolution of graphitic N to pyridinic and/or pyrrolic N, during which only these graphitic N adjacent pyridinic or pyrrolic structures can be taken precedence. The original and new generated pyridinic and pyrrolic N have strengthened binding energies to Li/Na atoms, thus increased the Li/Na coverage and delivered a progressive capacity boost with cycles until the entire favorable graphitic N transform into pyridinic and pyrrolic N.
BACKGROUNDAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a multifactorial, pervasive, neurodevelopmental disorder, of which intestinal symptoms collectively represent one of the most common ...comorbidities.METHODSIn this study, 1,222 children with ASD and 1,206 typically developing (TD) children aged 2-7 years were enrolled from 13 cities in China. Physical measurement and basic information questionnaires were conducted in ASD and TD children. The Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), and Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) were used to evaluate the clinical symptoms of children with ASD. The six-item Gastrointestinal Severity Index (6-GSI) was used to evaluate the prevalence of intestinal symptoms in two groups.RESULTSThe detection rates of constipation, stool odor, and total intestinal symptoms in ASD children were significantly higher than those in TD children (40.098% vs. 25.622%, 17.021% vs. 9.287%, and 53.601% vs. 41.294%, respectively). Autistic children presenting with intestinal comorbidity had significantly higher scores on the ABC, SRS, CARS, and multiple subscales than autistic children without intestinal symptoms, suggesting that intestinal comorbidity may exacerbates the core symptoms of ASD children.CONCLUSIONIntestinal dysfunction was significantly more common in autistic than in TD children. This dysfunction may aggravate the core symptoms of children with ASD.
