To understand the relationship between visual impairment and risk of all-cause mortality in the elderly aged 65 years and older in 8 longevity areas in China.
The data of the elderly aged 65 years ...and older in the project in 2012 were obtained from Healthy Aging and Biomarkers Cohort Study, a sub-cohort of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, including physical measurement and survival status, and a follow-up for survival outcomes were conducted in 2014 and 2017 respectively. Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to analyze the influence of visual impairment on mortality. Gender and age specific analysis was conducted.
A total of 1 736 elderly adults were included. A total of 943 deaths occurred during the 5-year follow-up period with a 5-year mortality rate of 54.3
. The 5-year mortality rate was 76.7
in the group with visual impairment, and 47.6
in the group without visual impairment (
<0.001). After adjusting for demographic information, life style and some disease factors, the ri
To explore a simple and feasible method for the isolation and purification of hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells (HSC), and lymphocytes from mice.
The cell suspension was obtained from male C57bl/6 ...mice by hepatic perfusion through the portal vein digestion method and then isolated and purified by discontinuous Percoll gradient centrifugation. Trypan blue exclusion was used to determine cell viability. Glycogen staining, cytokeratin 18, and transmission electron microscopy were used to identify hepatic cells. Immunofluorescence was used to detect α-smooth muscle actin combined with desmin in HSCs. Flow cytometry was used to analyze lymphocyte subsets in the liver.
After isolation and purification, about 2.7×10(7) hepatocytes, 5.7×10(5) HSCS, and 4.6×106 hepatic mononuclear cells were obtained from the liver of mice with a body weight of about 22g. The cell survival rate in each group was > 95%. Hepatocytes were apparent in glycogen deposited purple-red granules and cytokeratin 18. Electron microscopy showed
Abstract This article reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and $$\tau $$ τ -lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group using results available through ...summer 2016. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, $$C\!P$$ C P violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, and Cabbibo–Kobayashi–Maskawa matrix elements.
Using 2.93 fb–1 of data taken at 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we study the semileptonic decays D+ → K¯0e+νe and D+ → π0e+νe. Here, we measure the absolute decay ...branching fractions B(D+ → K¯0e+νe) = (8.60 ± 0.06 ± 0.15) × 10–2 and B(D+ → π0e+νe) = (3.63 ± 0.08 ± 0.05) × 10–3, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. We also measure the differential decay rates and study the form factors of these two decays. With the values of |Vcs| and |Vcd| from Particle Data Group fits assuming CKM unitarity, we obtain the values of the form factors at q2 = 0, $f$ $^{K}_{+}$(0) = 0.725 ± 0.004 ± 0.012 and $f$ $^{π}_{+}$(0) = 0.622 ± 0.012 ± 0.003. Taking input from recent lattice QCD calculations of these form factors, we determine values of the CKM matrix elements |Vcs| = 0.944 ± 0.005 ± 0.015 ± 0.024 and |Vcd| = 0.210 ± 0.004 ± 0.001 ± 0.009, where the third uncertainties are theoretical.
To investigate the association between sleep duration and activity of daily living (ADL) in the elderly aged 65 years and older in China.
A total of 11 247 subjects aged 65 and above were included in ...the Chinese Elderly Health Factors Tracking Survey from March 29, 2005 to April 8, 2019. Self-made questionnaire was used to collect the data of population sociological characteristics, health status and disease status. ADL status was assessed by basic activities of daily living. The association between sleep duration and ADL impairment was assessed by Cox proportional risk regression model. The dose-response relationship between sleep duration and ADL impairment was analyzed using restricted cubic spline function.
The age of the subjects was (79±10) years, including 5 793(51.5%) females. The incidence of ADL impairment was 33.3% (3 747/11 247). Subjects were divided into short, medium, and long sleep groups according to sleep duration of fewer than seven hours, seven to eight hours, or more than eight hours. The
We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction for Λ_{c}^{+}→Λe^{+}ν_{e}. This measurement is based on 567 pb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data produced at sqrts=4.599 GeV, ...which is just above the Λ_{c}^{+}Λover ¯_{c}^{-} threshold. The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Λ_{c}^{+}→Λe^{+}ν_{e})=3.63±0.38(stat)±0.20(syst)%, representing a significant improvement in precision over the current indirect determination. As the branching fraction for Λ_{c}^{+}→Λe^{+}ν_{e} is the benchmark for those of other Λ_{c}^{+} semileptonic channels, our result provides a unique test of different theoretical models, which is the most stringent to date.
The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is crucial to cancer progression and metastasis. Although multiple cellular miRNAs have been identified to regulate the EMT and metastasis in cancers, the ...role of viral miRNAs in cancer progression remains largely unknown. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated malignancy typically characterized by its early metastasis. In the present study, we have discovered the involvement of a viral miRNA, EBV-miR-BART7-3p, in the EMT and metastasis of NPC cells. Initially, we observed that EBV-miR-BART7-3p was highly expressed in NPC and positively correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stage of NPC. Subsequently, we demonstrated that EBV-miR-BART7-3p enhanced cell migration/invasion in vitro, cancer metastasis in vivo, and particularly the EMT characterized by loss of epithelial markers and gain of mesenchymal features in NPC cells. Furthermore, mechanistic studies disclosed that EBV-miR-BART7-3p targeted a major human tumor suppressor PTEN, modulating PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling and eventually leading to the high expression and nuclear accumulation of Snail and β-catenin, which favor EMT. Knockdown of PTEN could phenocopy the effect of EBV-miR-BART7-3p, whereas re-expression of PTEN resulted in a phenotypic reversion. Moreover, these findings were supported by an observation of an EBV-positive cell model in which silencing of endogenous EBV-miR-BART7-3p partially attenuated cell migration/invasion and altered EMT protein expression pattern via reverting PI3K/Akt, Snail and β-catenin expression. Thus, this study suggests a novel mechanism by which EBV-miR-BART7-3p modulates the EMT and metastasis of NPC cells, and a clinical implication of EBV-miR-BART7-3p as a potential biomarker or therapeutic target.
Using 567 pb^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrts=4.599 GeV, near the Λ_{c}^{+}Λover ¯_{c}^{-} threshold, we study the singly Cabibbo-suppressed ...decays Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-} and Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{+}K^{-}. By normalizing with respect to the Cabibbo-favored decay Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}, we obtain ratios of branching fractions: B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-})/B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})=(6.70±0.48±0.25)%, B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pϕ)/B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})=(1.81±0.33±0.13)%, and B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{+}K_{non-ϕ}^{-})/B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})=(9.36±2.22±0.71)×10^{-3}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The absolute branching fractions are also presented. Among these measurements, the decay Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-} is observed for the first time, and the precision of the branching fraction for Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{+}K_{non-ϕ}^{-} and Λ_{c}^{+}→pϕ is significantly improved.
The cyclotron frequency ratio of 187 Os29+ to 187Re29+ ions was measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometer PENTATRAP. The achieved result of R = 1.000 000 013 882 ( 5 ) is to date the ...most precise such measurement performed on ions. Furthermore, the total binding-energy difference of the 29 missing electrons in Re and Os was calculated by relativistic multiconfiguration methods, yielding the value of Δ E = 53.5 ( 10 ) eV . Finally, using the achieved results, the mass difference between neutral 187Re and 187Os, i.e., the Q value of the β − decay of 187Re, is determined to be 2470.9(13) eV.
