ABSTRACT The research aim is to know how the students of the Primary Teacher Degree at the University of Valladolid conceptualize heritage and determine the way in which links are built and intervened on the generation of identities. N = 472 texts published in the digital environment www.pesonasypatrimonios.com between 2018 and 2021 were used. Text mining techniques were used to analyze the data. The results confirm the opposite character between the historical and identity conceptualization models. The presence of semantic terms associated with the five dimensions of heritage and all the verbs contained in the SPP were confirmed, although the conceptualization linked to the monument still maintains a strong presence.
To assess the association between having suffered a fall in the month prior to interview and long-term overall survival in nursing-home residents.
Retrospective cohort study conducting an overall ...survival follow-up of 689 representative nursing-home residents from Madrid, Spain. Residents lived in three types of facilities: public, subsidized and private and its information was collected by interviewing the residents, caregivers and/or facility physicians. Residents contributed to follow-up time from their baseline interviews until death or being censored at the end of the 5-year follow-up period. The association between suffering a fall during the month prior to interview and long-term overall survival was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards models. To adjust for potential confounders we used progressive adjusted models. We then repeated the analyses with severity of the fall (no fall, non-severe, severe) as the main independent variable.
After a 2408 person-year follow-up (median 4.5 years), 372 participants had died. In fully-adjusted models, residents who had suffered any kind of fall in the previous month showed virtually the same survival rates compared to non-fallers (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.03; 95% CI = 0.75-1.40). There was a weak graded relationship between increased fall severity and survival rates for the non-severe fall group (HR = 0.92; 95% CI = 0.58-1.45) and the severe fall group (HR = 1.36; 95% CI = 0.73-2.53) compared with residents who had not suffered any kind of fall. The hazard ratios for severe falls were higher in men, residents with less comorbidity, fewer medications, and those functionally independent.
We found no associations between having suffered a fall in the month prior to interview and long-term survival; neither did we find a marked association when severity of fall was accounted for in the whole population. In some subgroups, however, the results merit further scrutiny.
Background
Non‐motor symptoms (NMS) are integral to Parkinson's Disease (PD) and management remains a challenge. Safinamide is a novel molecule in relation to addressing NMS due to its multifocal ...mechanism of action with both dopaminergic and non‐dopaminergic properties.
Objective
To investigate the efficacy of safinamide on NMS and its burden in PD patients with motor fluctuations after 6 months of treatment.
Methods
This observational, multicenter, open‐label, pilot study assessed a wide range of NMS using the following rating scales, NMSS (non‐motor symptom scale), KPPS (King's PD pain scale), HADS (hospital anxiety and depression scale), PDQ‐8 (Parkinson's disease quality of life questionnaire), and PDSS‐2 (Parkinson's disease sleep scale), EuroQol‐5D 3 level version (EQ‐5D‐3L), CGI‐I (clinical global impression of improvement), and PGI‐C (patient global impression of change). Motor examination using UPDRS part III (Unified Parkinson's disease rating scale, motor examination), UPDRS IV (complications of therapy) and Hoehn and Yahr staging were also obtained.
Results
27 patients were included in the analysis and were evaluated at baseline and ≥ 6 months after safinamide treatment. 26 patients had a daily maintenance dose of 100 mg and 1 patient a daily dose of 50 mg. Significant improvements in UPDRS IV, KPPS item 5 (region‐specific “off” dystonia), KPPS domain 3 (items 4–6, fluctuation related pain) and KPPS total score were observed after treatment with safinamide, while maintaining stable dopaminergic medication. No statistically significant differences were found in NMSS, HADS, PDSS‐2, EQ‐5D‐3L, and PDQ‐8 after treatment.
Conclusions
Our results suggest that safinamide may have a beneficial effect on pain, a key unmet need in fluctuating PD patients.
In this observational prospective study we investigate the effects of safinamide on non‐motor symptoms in patients with fluctuating Parkinson's disease. Our main finding is a significant improvement in UPDRS IV and pain as measured by the KPPS.
Irrigation with reclaimed water is becoming a common practice in arid- and semi-arid regions as a consequence of structural water resource scarcity. This practice can lead to contamination of the ...vadose zone if sewage-derived contaminants are not removed properly. In the current work, we have characterized soils from the Guadalete River basin (SW Spain), which are often irrigated with reclaimed water from a nearby wastewater treatment plant and amended using sludge. Physico-chemical, mineralogical and hydraulic properties were measured in soil samples from this area (from surface up to 2m depth). Emerging contaminants (synthetic surfactants and pharmaceutically active compounds, or PhACs) were also determined. Synthetic surfactants, widely used in personal care products (PCPs), were found in a wide range of concentrations: 73–1300μgkg−1 for linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS), 120–496μgkg−1 for alkyl ethoxysulfates (AES), 19–1090μgkg−1 for alcohol polyethoxylates (AEOs), and 155–280μgkg−1 for nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPEOs). The presence of surfactant homologues with longer alkyl chains was predominant due to their sorption capacity. A positive correlation was found between LAS and AEOs and soil organic carbon and clay content, respectively. Out of 64PhACs analyzed, only 7 were detected occasionally (diclofenac, metoprolol, fenofibrate, carbamazepine, clarithromycin, famotidine and hydrochlorothiazide), always at very low concentrations (from 0.1 to 1.3μgkg−1).
is a singular halophyte that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and allelopathic properties. In the work presented herein, we have characterized its inflorescences hydromethanolic ...extract and assessed its antifungal activity for the pre- and postharvest management of tomato crop diseases. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry characterization of the extract showed that 4-ethenyl-1,3-benzenediol, 2,3-dihydro-benzofuran, quinic acid, 3,5-dihydroxy-6,7,8-trimethoxy-2-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one, 1,6-anhydro-
-D-glucopyranose, catechol, scopoletin, and maltol were the main constituents. The co-occurrence of pyranones, benzenediols, and quinic acids as phytoconstituents of
extract resulted in promising in vitro minimum inhibitory concentrations of 500, 375, 500, 187.5, 187.5, and 375 μg·mL
against mycelia of
,
f. sp.
, and
, respectively. Further, to assess the potential of
inflorescence extract for postharvest tomato crop protection, ex situ tests were conducted against
, obtaining high protection at a dose of 750 μg·mL
. Taking into consideration that the demonstrated activity is among the highest reported to date for plant extracts and comparable to that of the synthetic fungicides tested as positive controls,
inflorescence extract may be put forward as a promising biorational and may deserve further testing in field-scale studies.
In the last few decades, there has been a growing interest in understanding the behavior of personal care products (PCPs) in the aquatic environment. In this regard, the aim of this study is to ...estimate the accumulation and effects of four PCPs within the clam
Ruditapes philippinarum
. The PCPs selected were triclosan, OTNE, benzophenone-3, and octocrylene. A progressive uptake was observed and maximum concentrations in tissues were reached at the end of the exposure phase, up to levels of 0.68 µg g

for OTNE, BP-3, OC, and TCS, respectively. After the PCP post-exposure period, the removal percentages were higher than 65%. The estimated logarithm bioconcentration factor ranged from 3.34 to 2.93, in concordance with the lipophobicity of each substance. No lethal effects were found although significant changes were observed for ethoxyresorufin O-demethylase activity, glutathione S-transferase activity, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage.
