Aim: The main purpose of the study was to learn the possible shade differences between human eye and the digital method with spectrophotometric methods. Materials and Methods: Fifty dental students ...of age groups 18-25 with maxillary right central incisor after undergoing oral prophylaxis were included in this study. Before undergoing shade selection, standardization protocol was followed. The shade of the right maxillary central incisor was determined by using the following methods: visual, spectrophotometer, and digital photography. The shades obtained by both spectrophotometer and visual methods are compared and similarly LFNx01, aFNx01, and bFNx01 values obtained by both spectrophotometer and digital methods are compared. Finally these comparisons are subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Z and P values of digital and spectrophotometric methods were found to be statistically significant. Tooth shade selected between spectrophotometric and visual method was analyzed by using chi-square test, which shows highly significant value. Conclusion: It was concluded that the digital photography can be used as one of the reliable methods for shade selection in a clinical setup.
Background: Fracture of the denture base is a common problem associated with dental prostheses. Fractured denture base surfaces treated with chemical agents and mechanical features have the potential ...for improved bond strength. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatment on the shear bond strength of heat-cured denture base with different repair acrylic resins. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 circular specimens (2-cm diameter × 3.3-mm thickness) were fabricated from heat-cured denture resins (DPI) according to the manufacturer's instructions. The heat-cured denture base acrylic resin specimens were divided into two groups: In group 1, auto-polymerizing acrylic resin (DPI) was used as a repair resin, and in group 2, light-cured acrylic resin (VLC) was used as the repair resin. Further, the heat-cured denture base acrylic resin specimens were subdivided into five subgroups. The shear bond strength (in megapascal) was measured in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min. The results were subjected for statistical analysis. Result: Comparison of mean and standard deviation of shear bond strength between DPI and VLC group using one-way analysis of variance showed that the mean shear bond strength of DPI group is higher than that of VLC group. Conclusion: From the study, heat-cured denture base specimens repaired with auto-polymerizing repair resin showed higher mean shear bond strength than the visible light cure resin material.
This article seeks to develop a comparative perspective on the "fiesta de los quintos"(quintos were the young men who were legally obliged to serve in the Army for several months) in two towns -- one ...in Portugal & the other in Spain. First we analyze the ways in which the fiesta is celebrated in each case, pointing out similarities & differences between them. Then we develop a comparative analysis introducing a double perspective: the town & village as the stage for relationships, & the fiesta as boundary, in a spatial & temporal sense. The link between socioeconomic status and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms is well established. Given that Black women are disproportionately burdened by both poverty and PTSD symptoms, ...research focusing on these constructs among this population is needed. The current study assessed the association between material hardship (i.e., difficulty meeting basic needs) and PTSD symptoms among 227 low‐income Black women in the United States. We explored several potential explanations for the association between poverty and PTSD symptoms (e.g., individuals living in poverty may experience higher levels of trauma exposure; individuals living in poverty may have less access to relevant protective resources, like social support; poverty itself may represent a traumatic stressor). Using robust negative binomial regression, a positive association between material hardship and PTSD symptoms emerged, B = 0.10, p = .009, SMD = 0.08. When trauma exposure was added to the model, it was positively associated with PTSD symptoms, B = 0.18, p < .001, SMD = 0.16, and material hardship remained positively associated with PTSD symptoms, B = 0.10, p =.019, SMD = 0.08. When social support indicators were added to the model, they were not associated with PTSD symptoms; however, material hardship remained significantly associated, B = 0.10, p = .021, SMD = 0.08. In the model with material hardship and trauma exposure, a significant interaction between material hardship and trauma exposure on PTSD symptoms emerged, B = −0.04, p = .027. These results demonstrate the importance of including material hardship in trauma research, assessment, and treatment.
We report on the cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT) of a patient with comorbid social anxiety disorder (SAD), schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder, complicated by alcohol abuse. Symptoms ...included auditory hallucinations that commented on the patient’s behavior and paranoid thoughts. The paranoid symptoms affected his social interactions as this included the fear that his thoughts may be heard and judged by others. Therapeutic activities raised awareness as to how avoidance interferes with and perpetuates the cycle of depression and psychosis while maintaining symptoms of SAD. Psychoeducation was provided about factors that maintain social anxiety and increase social isolation. New skills were obtained by helping the patient discover alternative ways to view social situations, experimentation, and real-world application to disprove notions about others’ predicted behavior. Treatment led to a great reduction in social anxiety, depression, and suspicious thinking. This case study demonstrates that SAD symptoms in a patient experiencing psychosis can be effectively treated using CBT.
The overall goal of this study was to determine whether one could demonstrate a measurable difference between the use of film vs. text exposure triggers-using documentary materials about the infamous ...Tuskegee Syphilis Study-in the teaching bioethics to college students using the 36-item ‘Spheres of Ethics Teaching Using Film’ Post-Trigger (SOETUF P-T) Questionnaire, as developed for this study. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the film vs. text groups for the overall Principles of Bioethics Domainof- Interest (7.3±4.4 vs. 5.1±4.4, p <0.05) with the film group scoring higher and for the 23-item ‘Emotional Reaction Domain-of-Interest’ (ER-DOI) with two of the five emotional components identified by a Principle Component Analysis (PCA), the components of being Content and Aroused, but not for the other three identified components of Unhappy, Afraid or Excited. Moreover, the SOETUF P-T Questionnaire items appeared to have reasonable face validity as revealed by the answer patterns to its range of items. In this study, the SOETUF P-T Questionnaire demonstrated that it could detect meaningful differences in student reaction to a film trigger versus a text trigger about the Tuskegee Syphilis Study in the teaching of bioethics to college students.
