The river Gacka springs catchment area is located in the Dinaric karst, which is globally known as the locus typicus, or classical Karst. It is composed of four major and several minor karst springs ...of different discharge rates. The river Gacka springs are characterised by great discharge and exceptional quality, so the catchment area of the river is indicated in the Water Management Strategy (OFFICIAL GAZETTE NO. 91/08) as an area with strategically important reserves of drinking water for the Republic of Croatia. To determine the hydrogeological characteristics of the subcatchments of this large and complex aquifer system, hydrological and hydrochemical parameters were measured on the main springs. Data collected on the springs were analysed using the recession analysis by the "matching strip" method, the statistical analysis of a time series of measured data both by autocorrelation (analysis of individual series) and by cross-correlation methods (analysis of interrelationships between time series), multivariate statistical analysis (Factor Analysis) of hydrochemical parameters using the software package STATISTICA 6.0 (1998), and geochemical modelling of hydrochemical parameters using the NETPATH computer program. Interpretation of lithological, structural and tectonic characteristics of the rocks, together with tracing data and the applied analytical methods, allowed the springs catchment of the river Gacka to be divided into three subcatchments. The results of this study imply the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach to research.

We examine the effect of political instability on willingness to pay estimates (WTP) from nonmarket valuation, using data from a choice experiment implemented in Zagreb, Croatia to value groundwater quality and quantity. To evaluate the sensitivity of preferences for environmental quality to instability, we use the timing of a period of public protest that occurred in the city during the data collection and compare preferences before and during the protest. We find some evidence that WTP is lower in the period of political instability, but the result is sensitive to the specification used.
High concentrations of sodium, potassium, nitrates and sulphates inthe groundwater in the Mala Mlaka well field catchment area confirmthe impact of agricultural activities on water chemistry. ...Analysisof time trends has shown that a decrease in inorganic components(nitrates and sulphates), which are sensitive to changes in oxidation/reduction conditions in an aquifer, are caused by infiltration of oxygen-rich water rich in organic matter into the aquifers. Oxygen contentreduction due to oxidation of the organic matter causes oxygendeprivation in the groundwater and consequently a reduction in nitrateand sulphate levels. An increase in chloride levels in the groundwaterduring 1994–2000 is a consequence of human activities in the catchmentarea. Multivariate statistical analyses, i.e. factor analysis, clusteranalysis and multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis have shownthat the registered pollution sources in the catchment area, particularlyillegal dump sites, cause degradation of the groundwater quality insome sites. This impact is detected over a distance of several hundredmetres downstream from the registered pollution sources.
The main goal of the research shown in this paper is to investigate the cause and effect relation of the Jakuševec-Prudinec waste disposal site and the groundwater pollution. The recovery of the ...Jakuševec-Prudinec waste disposal site by the end of 2003 did not have any significant impact on the pollution reduction in groundwater. Very high values of the pollution index defined in the area southeastern from the waste disposal site show spreading of the pollution toward Mičevec village. The analysis of the hydrogeochemical characteristics showed that in the waste disposal site area the local geochemical anomalies of the partial CO2 pressure exist, indicating that the intensive carbonate dissolution processes and HCO3- enrichment dominate in this area. Near the border of the waste disposal site groundwater with high ammonium ion (NH4+) and chloride ion (Cl-) dominates. The high concentrations of the heavy metals and very strong geochemical bonds determined from the correlation coefficients show that in the reductive aquifer conditions heavy metals strongly release (the paper is published in Croatian).
Ovim radom utvrđena su hidrogeološka i hidrogeokemijska obilježja šireg područja regionalnog crpilišta „Istočna Slavonija“ Sikirevci. Istraživanja su provedena na temelju prikupljenih podataka sa ...područja Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine i Republike Hrvatske. Vodonosni horizont Velika Kopanica koji se na području Republike Hrvatske nalazi u trokutu između Kopanice, Gundinaca i Kruševice, djelomično je presječen Savom te se ispod Save proteže u Bosnu i Hercegovinu, tj. entitet Federaciju Bosne i Hercegovine, od Donjeg Svilaja na zapadu do Domaljevca na istoku gdje je njegova izdašnost najveća. Debljina vodonosnog sloja se smanjuje prema vodnom tijelu Odžak. Utvrđeno je da podzemna voda koja se crpi na zdencima šireg područja regionalnog crpilišta, sadrži željezo, mangan, prirodni amonijak i arsen u koncentracijama koje prelaze maksimalno dozvoljene koncentracije za pitku vodu. Povišene vrijednosti navedenih parametara su posljedica mineralnog sastava i reduktivnih uvjeta u vodonosnoj sredini. Multivarijatnom statističkom klaster analizom dobiven je prikaz skupina parametara kakvoće vode na temelju geokemijskog afiniteta i/ili porijekla.
The multivariate statistic methods: the cluster analysis and the Multidimensional scaling analysis showed the grouping of piezometers within sanitary protection zones in the three clusters, ...concerning the indexes of anthropogenic pollution. The results of the analysis provided the eveluation of the influences of the waste depository Trebež on the ground water of the Strmec well field. The principal component analysis revealed the most important macro and micro components, which are or could be the consequence of the anthropogenic pollution. The Time series analysis showed the trends of the most important components (the paper is published in Croatian).
Korištenje nesaturirane hidrauličke vodljivosti može pomoći u definiranju propusnosti tla, odnosno procjeđivanju vode kroz nesaturiranu zonu. Cilj ovog rada je procjena propusnosti tla na lokaciji ...profila Kosnica, koji se nalazi u aluvijalnoj ravnici zagrebačkoga vodonosnika, Republika Hrvatska, na temelju varijacije sadržaja vlage u tlu. Zagrebački vodonosnik predstavlja jedini izvor pitke vode za stanovnike Grada Zagreba i dijela Zagrebačke županije. Debljina nesaturirane zone zagrebačkoga vodonosnika varira od 8 m u sjeverozapadnom dijelu, do 2 m u jugoistočnom dijelu. Vrijednosti nesaturirane hidrauličke vodljivosti izračunate su na temelju granulometrijskog sastava horizonata tla i na temelju optimiziranih parametara tla. Varijacija nesaturirane hidrauličke vodljivosti pokazala je da je gornji dio profila općenito propustan tijekom 2011./2012. hidrološke godine. Nesaturirane hidrauličke vodljivosti proračunate na temelju optimiziranih parametara tla generirale su najviše vrijednosti, uvijek veće od 1E–9 m/s. Iako bi procjena propusnosti profila tla bila preciznija kada bi postojala mjerenja sadržaja vlage i tlaka u svakom horizontu, ovakav način proračuna može dati prvi uvid u okvirne vrijednosti varijacije nesaturirane hidrauličke vodljivosti i povezane propusnosti.
