In this work ...we carried out a review of models for evaluating the performance of distributed software system architecture (DSSA) and Information System (IS) success evaluation models with a view to establishing the utilization of organizational variables in the evaluation of DSSA performance. The findings from the review show that the existing DSSA performance evaluation models are machine-centric and existing IS success measurement models do not map organizational variables with DSSA components. In view of these, we developed a user-centric model for DSSA performance evaluation using organizational variables. Our model utilizes neuro-fuzzy logic in matching organizational/user variables with DSSA evaluation factors.
Classification is a crucial stage in identification systems, most specifically in biometric identification systems. A weak and inaccurate classification system may produce false identity, which in ...turn impacts negatively on delicate decisions. Decision making in biometric systems is done at the classification stage. Due to the importance of this stage, many classifiers have been developed and modified by researchers. However, most of the existing classifiers are limited in accuracy due to false representation of image features, improper training of classifier models for newly emerging data (over-fitting or under-fitting problem) and lack of an efficient mode of generating model parameters (scalability problem). The Negative Selection Algorithm (NSA) is one of the major algorithms of the Artificial Immune System, inspired by the operation of the mammalian immune system for solving classification problems. However, it is still prone to the inability to consider the whole self-space during the detectors/features generation process. Hence, this work developed an Optimized Negative Selection Algorithm (ONSA) for image classification in biometric systems. The ONSA is characterized by the ability to consider whole feature spaces (feature selection balance), having good training capability and low scalability problems. The performance of the ONSA was compared with that of the standard NSA (SNSA), and it was discovered that the ONSA has greater recognition accuracy by producing 98.33% accuracy compared with that of the SNSA which is 96.33%. The ONSA produced TP and TN values of 146% and 149%, respectively, while the SNSA produced 143% and 146% for TP and TN, respectively. Also, the ONSA generated a lower FN and FP rate of 4.00% and 1.00%, respectively, compared to the SNSA, which generated FN and FP values of 7.00% and 4.00%, respectively. Therefore, it was discovered in this work that global feature selection improves recognition accuracy in biometric systems. The developed biometric system can be adapted by any organization that requires an ultra-secure identification system.

This paper evaluates Interface Complexity Metric (ICM) between two xml schema languages: World Wide Web Consortium XML Schema (WXS) and Regular Language for Next Generation (RNG) to weigh human insight on the factors affecting effort for comprehending schema documents; taking into account elements and attributes of xml documents; acquired from Web Services Description Language (WSDL). It is probable to lure decisions about the professed qualities; that out of one hundred and twenty (120) schema documents implemented in rng and wxs; rng has the lowest complexity values for almost all the schema documents when compared with wxs because rng exhibits better presentation with high degree of simplicity, generality and usability qualities than wxs. Therefore, this is benefited to developers in assisting them in writing less lengthy code and simplifying software modularization.
The design and prototype implementation of a subset of an African indigenous language-based programming language has been carried out and reported. In this study, an evaluation of the processor ...developed for the native language-based programming language was carried out in order to assess its level of conformance to the characteristics required of a good software product as set by the international organization for standardization (ISO). The developed language processor was evaluated using some metrics for evaluating the quality of software systems including structural and time complexity. A usability test was also conducted to assess users’ perception of the system concerning its relevance and ease of use. The result of system evaluation indicated that the system contains 1558 lines of code, its cyclomatic complexity is 14 and its asymptotic time complexity is of order big oh O (n
), where n is the size of the input to the system. Over 86% of the participants in the usability test attested to the system’s relevance while the usability rating was 86%. The developed system can be inferred to be of good quality as the results of its evaluation are positively on the high side for satisfying most of the ISO criteria for adjudging a software product as being of good quality. Furthermore, the high usability rating for the system indicates that the programming language whose compiler was evaluated satisfies most of the criteria set by the Department of Defense (DOD) for assessing the ‘goodness’ or otherwise of a programming language.
Restaurant industry has become one of the most profitable industries in the world where incessant long waiting time may not only lead to customers’ dissatisfactions but also facilitate loosing of ...customers to other competitors. In this paper, in order to determine customers’ arrival patterns and service patterns which are critical factors in determining customers’ queue length and waiting time for a given restaurant, the food serving process employed at a named International Institute Restaurant (IIR), Ibadan, Nigeria, was used as a case study. Data were collected on customers’ number, customers’ inter arrival time and service time from Monday to Friday for a week. The data were analyzed statistically using the ARENA Input Analyzer to determine the arrival patterns and service patterns of customers within five working days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). The results of the data analysis revealed that the arrival times of customers who patronized the IIR on Monday and Tuesday followed a Beta distribution. Furthermore, the arrival times of customers patronizing the IIR on Wednesday and Thursday followed a Weibull distribution while that of Friday assumed an Erlang distribution. Besides, the results of the data analysis revealed that the service times at IIR on Monday and Tuesday followed a Lognormal distribution. Beta, Lognormal and Weibull distributions were recorded in respect of service times characterizing the IIR on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Most of the existing high level programming languages havehitherto borrowed their lexical items from human languages including European and Asian languages. However, there is paucity of research ...information on programming languages developed with the lexicons of an African indigenous language. This research explored the design and implementation of an African indigenous language-based programming language using Yoruba as case study. Yoruba is the first language of over 30 million people in the south-west of Nigeria, Africa; and is spoken by over one hundred million people world-wide. It is hoped, as established by research studies, that making computer programming possible in one’s mother tongue will enhance computer-based problem-solving processes by indigenous learners and teachers. The alphabets and reserved words of the programming language were respectively formed from the basic Yoruba alphabets and standard Yoruba words. The lexical items and syntactic structures of the programming language were designed with appropriate regular expressions and context-free grammars, using Backus-Naur Form (BNF) notations. A prototype implementation of the programming language was carried out as a source-to-source, 5-pass compiler. QBasic within QB64 IDE was the implementation language. The results from implementation showed functional correctness and effectiveness of the developed programming language. Thus lexical items of a programming language need not be borrowed exclusively from European and Asian languages, they can and should be borrowed from most African native languages. Furthermore, the developed native language programming language can be used to introduce computer programming to indigenous pupils of primary and junior secondary schools.
The development of an African native language-based programming language, using Yoruba as a case study, is envisioned. Programming languages based on the lexicons of indigenous African languages are ...rare to come by unlike those based on Asian and / or European languages. Availability of programming languages based on lexicons of African indigenous language would facilitate comprehension of problem-solving processes using computer by indigenous learners and teachers as confirmed by research results. In order to further assess the relevance, usefulness and needfulness of such a programming language, a preliminary needs assessment survey was carried out. The needs assessment was carried out through design of a structured questionnaire which was administered to 130 stakeholders in computer profession and computer education; including some staffers and learners of some primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions in Oyo and Osun states of Nigeria, Africa. The responses to the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The analysis of the responses to the questionnaire shows that 89% of the respondents to the questionnaire expressed excitement and willingness to program or learn programming in their mother tongue-based programming language, if such a programming language is developed. This result shows the high degree of relevance, usefulness and needfulness of a native language-based programming language as well as the worthwhileness of embarking on development of such a programming language.
