5-Azido-3-oxa-pentyl beta-D-galactopyranoside was prepared from diethylene glycol monochlorohydrin and used as a model of oligosaccharide hapten. After deprotection, a series of amides bearing ...thiophilic groups had been obtained through the terminal amino function and essayed in coupling reactions with thiolated BSA. Also several Lewis human blood group oligosaccharides had been conjugated with thiolated BSA demonstrating the usefulness of the methodology.
The genus
Legionella is represented by 48 species and
Legionella pneumophila includes 15 serogroups. In this work, we have studied the intergenic 16S–23S spacer region (ITS) in
L. pneumophila to ...determine the feasability of using amplification polymorphisms in this region, to establish intraspecies differences and to discriminate
Legionella species. The amplification of this region, using 16S14F and 23S0R primers, and the analysis of amplicons by the analysis of fragments technique showed that all the
L. pneumophila serogroups studied presented the same electrophoretic pattern. Moreover, the analysis of different
Legionella species showed that the amplification polymorphisms obtained were species-specific. In order to study the sequence variability of this region, the existence in
L. pneumophila of three ribosomal operons was determined by pulsed field gel eletrophoresis (PFGE). Two of the 16S–23S rRNA ITS presented a tRNA Ala and the third one a tRNA Ile. Nevertheless, the variability expected in this region of the operon was not found and the rest of the ITS contained only punctual mutations.
The Latin documentation preserved in the Iberian Peninsula appears to reflect a profound break between the seventh century, characterised by the prevalence of law, a continuation of Antiquity, and the entirely mediaeval tenth century, ruled by custom. While the Visigothic age bequeathed numerous legal statutes, the Christian kingdoms of the north were long bereft of any legislation, be it secular or ecclesiastic. Nonetheless, historians are at risk of misinterpreting what is undeniably a distortion—all the more tempting in light of the break that took place in 711—and accepting the vision of an ancient world governed by positive law in opposition to a mediaeval world alien to the rule of law. This dossier returns to sources of widely-varying natures, approaching the law as a living, manifold entity, aever at the heart of society’s vital interests.

However, longerstudiesarerequiredinordertoconfirmthesefindings.
We have isolated RNA from sheep brain synaptosomes and mitochondria separated by an aqueous two-phase system composed of dextran and poly(ethylene glycol). RNA was fractionated through ...oligo(dT)-cellulose columns and analyzed by electrophoresis through agarose slab gels containing methylmercuric hydroxide and stained with ethidium bromide. The electrophoretic patterns of the poly(A)-containing RNA fraction from synaptosomes and mitochondria are very similar although some high molecular weight RNA species, clearly visible in the synaptosomal fraction, are scarcely detected in the mitochondrial preparations. The electrophoretic analysis of a cleaner RNA preparation from digitonin-treated free mitochondria (mitoplasts) showed that all the poly (A)-RNA species of the synaptosomal preparation are also present in mitoplast. These results strongly suggest that all the discrete poly(A)-RNA species identified in brain synaptosomes are of mitochondrial origin.
