Customer satisfaction has long been recognized as a central concept of all business activities. Satisfaction can serve as an indicator of success of the company, both in the past and present, as well ...as an indicator of future performance. A relationship that is created between the expectations of students and their satisfaction with the quality of service that provides educational institution plays an important role in shaping the reputation of academic institutions. Academic institutions are becoming aware of the importance of student satisfaction, because satisfaction positively influences their decision to continue their education at this institution, and the positive word of mouth that will attract prospective students. Satisfaction will affect student motivation, and therefore their performance. This paper provides insight into the marketing aspects of customer satisfaction, primarily insight into the satisfaction of students in the educational sector. In this paper, we analyze the scientific productivity and impact of selected public business schools in South East Europe (SEE) in the 2017-2021 period by using the scientific output indexed in the ...Elsevier Scopus reference database. The region’s most productive and influential authors, institutions, and publication outlets are identified in the field of business research. Empirical results are discussed from the viewpoints of two research questions related to regional business school research patterns and the research cooperation outcomes. Selected public business schools in the SEE region have been found to have a mixed record regarding research productivity and impact. International collaboration is valuable in increasing the research impact, while institutional collaboration seems more effective in raising impact than national one. Recommendations for business school administrators are identified and discussed.
It is a great honor to have an opportunity to introduce a special section of the journal “Management – Journal of Contemporary Management Issues”, edited by Vojko Potočan (University of Maribor) and ...Jurica Pavičić (University of Zagreb, Croatia), entitled “How do Slovenian and Croatian higher education organizations follow goals of the European higher educational systems concerning social responsibility?“
In this paper, we address insufficiently explored indirect relationships between market orientation (MO), organizational strategic resources and business outcomes.Previous studies have identified MO ...as a key strategic asset that contributes to competitive advantage and ultimately to business performance. However, the extant research is at best partial in addressing the contingencies that might uphold these relationships. The goal of this study is to extend the existing knowledge by showing that MO complements with other strategic management processes that are relevant for business success. To address the research question, a conceptual model with three hypotheses was developed. Data was obtained with a survey questionnaire on a sample of 265 medium and large-sized firms from Croatia. The findings indicate that MO influences competitive advantage stronger at higher levels of VRIN resources. Also, findings suggest that competitive advantage mediates the relationship between MO and business performance. In the end, the theoretical and managerial implications are presented along with future research directions in light of the limitations of this study.
In this paper, we discuss if the current educational management practices in Croatian schools are in line with the constructivist prescriptions and what is their relationship with the available ...principal support tools. Our research is based on previous empirical results, related to the perceived needs of school principals for training and support. Namely, in 2011, the surveyed school principals required additional competencies to be developed in the fields of school marketing and management. At that time, the primary school principals are being surveyed, related to their managerial practices and the obtained results are interpreted in the context of the already announced, comprehensive school reform in Croatia, designed according to the constructivist educational theories. The empirical results demonstrate that the managerial practices of Croatian primary schools are not compatible with the constructivist theory of education. One group of principals (27.6%) have adequate delegation skills and focus on the specific fields of project management and school marketing, while the majority demonstrate one (or several) forms of ineffective practices. There is limited empirical evidence of the statistically significant differences in the usage of principal support tools/approaches, although the specific usage patterns have been identified.
AbstractIn this study, authors analyze sustainability in higher education (HE), including its theoretical dimensions and linkages to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), in order to develop an ...initial version of the measurement scale, which could be used in research and practical applications in the HE sector. This is of special importance for public business schools wishing to obtain international accreditation, since the majority of international accreditation schemes put emphasis on social responsibility and sustainability of HEI’s operations. In addition, the presented approach is linked to demonstrating the impact of public HEIs’ contribution to the sustainable development of its broader environment. The empirical part of the study is based on the survey data, obtained from students of a regional public business school in the Republic of Croatia. The initial empirical results show potential dimensions of a measurement scale, which could be used with HEI’s stakeholders. In addition, clustering of the obtained student perceptions suggests how an indicative student sample could interpret a HEI’s efforts to implement the principles of sustainable development in its operations.
Perceived external prestige (PEP) is a well-known concept oriented towards describing the way members of a certain organization interpret and assess their organisational reputation. Such perception ...can significantly affect employees’ identification and loyalty to the organisation as well as their job satisfaction and work performance. According to the social identification theory, people define themselves and others with respect to their belonging to a particular group or organization, and their basic motive is a personal need for self-respect and a sense of pride. Employees’ perception of being members of an important, reputable and significant organisation contributes to the feeling of self-respect, which increases their individual social value and status. According to literature, there are only few objections to the concept of PEP, mainly those related to the determination of its structure and, with it, to its management. Although there is a growing literature on PEP, it is still not clear whether PEP is a one-dimensional or a multidimensional construct. If PEP is a multidimensional concept, it is important to specify its key components, in order to enhance the management of favourable organizational prestige in a real work environment. The purpose of this paper was to determine the structure of PEP and important sources of information, based on which, employees value the prestige of their organisation. Qualitative research was conducted, comprising nine semi-structured interviews with communication experts working for a multinational organisation operating in several European countries. The results of this paper indicate that PEP is a multidimensional construct, with several components, important for its creation and management. Those components can be grouped into three main categories: track record of success and the position of the organisation on the market, social impact of the organisation on the immediate environment and the internal organisational climate. In addition, differences in some sources of information, contributing significantly to the perception of the organizational prestige, have been discussed. According to interviewees' comments, the most important sources of information for employees proved to be managers and media.
