There have not been many studies dealing with this issue in our geographical region. A total of 57 female mouflons aged between 1 and 6 years (1-3 years
= 32, 4-6 years
= 25) and in good physical condition, with an average live weight between 32 and 40 kg were included in the research experiment between the two years. A total of 15 selected biochemical parameters were analyzed. Using statistical analysis, we noticed significant effects of age on almost three-quarters of analyzed biochemical parameters. A statistically significant correlation was observed between age and the parameters of glucose, alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, bilirubin, cholesterol, creatinine, high-density lipoprotein, calcium, triglycerides, and urea. An evaluation of the European mouflon's biochemical parameters during the whole year may be a reliable method for judging a herd's condition, diagnosing medical disorders, and preventing the etiology of their occurrence. An analysis of biochemical parameters tells us about the functioning of individual organs as well as the animals' metabolism. Knowledge of the values of blood parameters is of special importance because they allow us to gather more information on mouflons.
The aim of our study was to evaluate the selected biochemical parameters of mouflon depending on gender. For research were used thirty mouflons of both sexes with approximate age in winter season. ...Blood samples for biochemical analysis were taken from vena jugularis for determination of selected biochemical parameter. Biochemical indicators were measured using the standard automatic analyser. The results of statistical testing of selected biochemical parameters in the experimental group of animals confirmed differences between the genders and at the selected biochemical parameters.
The distribution of healthy and atretic follicles on the ovarian surface of improved Valachian ewes 17, 24, and 32 days postpartum is reported in this study. The number of healthy follicles was ...higher on day 24 postpartum and their mean diameter tended to increase to day 32 (P<0.05) with the greatest diameter of 5 mm. 78–81% of atretic follicles ≥3 mm in diameter was observed where apoptosis began in the follicular cells situated at the follicular cavity. The early atretic follicles are characterized by the presence of mitotic pictures. In one ewe 24 days postpartum, small regressive follicular cysts were observed. Contracting atresia is characterized by thickening of the theca interna even to 190 μm. Progesterone and oestradiol-17β concentrations were maintained at relatively low levels, but with no significant difference between the days postpartum.

The effect of application of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFA) on intestinal colonization by Lactobacillus paracasei and on cellular immunity has been investigated in gnotobiotic ...pigs. The administration of polyunsaturated fatty acids positively affected the adhesion of Lactobacillus paracasei to the jejunal mucosa of gnotobiotic piglets. When compared to the control group, the number of Lactobacillus paracasei adhering to the jejunal mucosa was by 12% higher in piglets of the experimental group (5.10 log 10/cm2 vs. 4.55 log 10/cm2). The respective counts of Lactobacillus paracasei adhering to the ileal and colonic mucosa of 28 day old gnotobiotic piglets reached 4.45 and 5.05 log 10/cm2 in group C and 4.44 and 4.95 log 10/cm2 in group E. Omega-3 PUFA supplementation increased the phagocytic activity of neutrophils by almost 100% on day 28 of life as well as the subpopulations of lymphocytes (CD8) in the peripheral blood of germ-free piglets on day 21 of life. Our results indicate that the action of probiotics in the gut may be modulated by dietary PUFA. The stimulatory effect of PUFA upon adhesion of lactobacilli could be used for enhancing the effectiveness of probiotics in inhibiting digestive tract pathogens.
Biochemical analysis in horses is an important aid for determining correct clinical diagnosis of general, infectious, and some parasitic diseases. A total of 34 mares of the Norik breed Muráň Plain type (aged 15.18 ± 5.99 years) and 28 Hucul mares (aged 9.03 ± 5.50 years) were used. The results confirmed that there are significant differences between horse breeds in some biochemical indices. Therefore, it is appropriate to determine reference values for other horse breeds, as well. To our knowledge, this is the first report that compares biochemical and mineral indices between the Norik breed Muráň Plain type and the Hucul breed.
