In this study, the new occurrence of
belonging to the genus
in Ulugöl Plateau Pond (Mesudiye-Ordu, Turkey) and Perşembe Plateau Pond (Aybastı-Ordu, Turkey) in the Middle Black Sea Region (Turkey) is ...reported. The distribution data of Prussian carp was updated in the Middle Black Sea Region of Turkey in comparison to the previously known data. Presenting morphological data of samples collected from two different areas in the Middle Black Sea Region may contribute to revealing the current distribution status of this invasive species and determining the potential distribution areas.
In the current study, for the first time, Oxynoemacheilus angorae samples were caught from Perşembe Plateau Meandering Streams in the Ordu-Turkey (Middle Black Sea Region). In the field studies, ...fifteen O. angorae individuals were sampled using electrofishing gear. After the captured samples were photographed, they were placed in fish transfer containers and transferred to the laboratory. Some metric numbers and meristic characteristics of the samples brought to the laboratory were recorded. The mean value of body weight of fish samples was determined as 2.39±0.576 g. The mean values of standard length, fork length and total length of the samples were determined as 5.48±0.49 cm, 6.23±0.54 cm and 6.56±0.59 cm, respectively. The result of this study, new fish species was added to freshwater fish fauna of Ordu and also provided a new data for the distribution areas O. angorae in Turkey.
The relationships between otolith size and body length of North African catfish
(Burchell, 1822), collected from Sakaryabaşı (the main spring area of the Sakarya River) between July 2014 and November ...2014, were examined. Length-weight relationship was also calculated for overall specimens. The wild fish were captured by electrofishing using SAMUS 725MP. A total of 132 individuals ranging from 13.6 to 59.0 cm in total length and from 15.9 to 1755.0 g in weight were sampled. The lagenar otolith (asteriscus) length and height, and the utricular otolith (lapillus) length and width were recorded for each fish. The relationships between otolith measurements and fish somatic growth were described by a non-linear function (power model). The
test revealed no considerable differences in these relationships between left and right otoliths. The ANCOVA test on the relationships between total length and otolith variables did not show significant differences between females and males. All relationships were highly significant and the mean percent prediction errors were less than 7%. The results showed that otolith growth reflected body growth.
The aim of this study was to determine the growth features of European perch (
L., 1758) inhabiting Lake Ladik. A total of 858 individuals were caught. The total length and weight ranged from 8.2 to ...27.5 cm and from 7.16 to 365.20 g, respectively. The age of the females ranged between 1 and 7 years and the age of the males ranged from 1 to 5 years. The female to male ratio was 1:0.19. The von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters were determined as
=41.27 cm,
=1251.40 g,
=0.10 (year
),
(year)=−1.98 for all samples. Length-weight relationship was calculated as
=0.0047
for all specimens. Length-length relationships (total length-standard length, total length-fork length, standard length-fork length) were highly significant (r
>0.98). The mean condition factor value was obtained as 1.28 for all fish. Condition factor showed statistically significant increase according to length classes.
This study was prepared to investigate the ecogeomorphological aspects of the Kızılırmak mouth and its immediate environs, which have been seriously subjected to anthropogenic pressures in recent ...years. Situated in the center of Turkey's most significant wetland, the Kızılırmak delta, is the research area. In this study, remote sensing methods and field observations were used together, and the collected data were interpreted with an interdisciplinary approach by experts in geomorphology, ornithology, ichthyology, botany, physical geography, and environmental engineering. The Altınkaya and Derbent dams built on the Kızılırmak river negatively affected the sediment budget of the delta. Significant part of the dried floodplains was turned into agricultural field. Later, the stream was taken into an artificial canal. The former bed parts outside the canal turned into lakes and swamps. For this reason, between 1990 and 2021, the coastline was retreated by 500 m, 75.1 ha of wetland were converted into agricultural land and 18.1 ha of new lake area was created. The biological and hydrological features of the study region changed as a result of these changes; habitats were fragmented, animal breeding and nesting grounds were damaged, and some animal populations tended to decline. Despite this, many artificial lakes still have wetland characteristics and can be preserved as a suitable habitat for many different plants and animals. In light of this study, it is advised that the current wetland management plan be carefully revised and implemented.
In this study, the relationships between total length and opercle dimensions (length and height) of European perch inhabiting Lake Ladik were examined. Sampling was carried out between January and ...February 2010. A total of 110 individuals were sampled and total length ranged from 11.6 to 24.7 cm. Opercles were extracted for all fish caught. Opercle length (OL) and height (OH) were measured discriminating the right and left of each pair of opercle. OL and OH ranged from 10.04 to 24.32 mm and 9.23 to 20.67 mm, respectively. Total length-opercle length and total length-opercle height relationships were calculated separately for right and left opercle. The results of statistical estimates indicated that the linear model had higher regression coefficient than the power model for both relationships. The regression coefficients of the total length-opercle length and total length-opercle height regression equations were 0.951 (p<0.001), 0.936 (p<0.001), respectively. When right and left opercles were compared, we found that there was significant distinctness in terms of opercle length (p<0.001) but there was no significant difference in terms of opercle height (p>0.05).
Understanding the relative contributions of different spawning habitats to adult fish populations is central to effective fisheries management and species conservation. The Tarek (Alburnus tarichi) ...is an adfluvial cyprinid that is endemic to the alkaline-saline waters of Lake Van, Turkey. Tarek are culturally and economically important to the region, and also threatened by anthropogenic impacts, including poaching, dams, water diversions, pollution, and habitat degradation. Here we analyzed otoliths from 120 adult fish caught in Lake Van in 2016–2017 to reconstruct the age structure and natal origins of this Tarek population. Ages ranged from 2 to 10 years, with most fish belonging to the 2011–2014 cohorts (age 3–5). We analyzed strontium isotope ratios from water samples collected in 2016 and 2018 to build a baseline map and then used linear discriminant function analysis to classify Tarek to their likely natal origins. We found that adult Tarek originated from at least 7 different major tributaries of Lake Van, with a majority of fish originating from the Gevas and Engil tributaries in the south. Furthermore, the relative contributions of fish from each tributary varied among years, suggesting that a mosaic of natal habitats may be important for population stability. These results suggest that protection of all Lake Van watersheds from anthropogenic disturbance could be valuable for maintaining the stability of the Lake Van Tarek population and fishery.
The aim of the current study was to determine the length-weight relationship (LWR) and length-length relationship (LLR) with condition factor (K) values for
from the Perşembe Plateau meandering ...streams in Ordu, Turkey. A total of 65 fish specimens, which were caught with electrofishing gear, were examined. Fish standard length (SL), fork length (FL), total length (TL), and body weight (W) were determined. There were no statistical differences between the measurements of male and female
specimens; therefore, the female and male specimens were evaluated together in the current study. The LWR equation and determination coefficient of
were W = 0.014 TL
(r
= 0.9659). The 95% confidence interval of the
value for the
specimens from the Perşembe Plateau meandering streams was 2.7261 to 2.7435. In the present study, it was determined that
specimens showed negative allometric growth. Calculations of
TL-SL, TL-FL, and FL-SL relationship equations and determination coefficients were as follows: TL = 0.2091+1.1646 SL, (r
= 0.986); TL = 0.1341+1.0301 FL (r
= 0.9914); and FL = 0.0998+1.1261 SL, (r
= 0.9868), respectively. A new maximum total length was recorded for
in this study. The average condition factor value of
was 0.9954. This value could have indicated that this species was encountering some problems in this habitat. The
parameters determined were the first data reported for the Perşembe Plateau meandering streams in Ordu, Turkey (Middle Black Sea Region).
