On 30 October 2020, a strong normal-faulting earthquake struck Samos Island in Greece and İzmir Province in Turkey, both in the eastern Aegean Sea. The earthquake generated a tsunami that hit the ...coasts of Samos Island, Greece and İzmir, Turkey. National teams performed two post-tsunami field surveys on 31 October to 1 November 2020, and 4–6 November 2020, along the Turkish coastline; while the former was a quick survey on the days following the tsunami, the latter involved more detailed measurement and investigation focusing on a ~ 110-km-long coastline extending from Alaçatı (Çeşme District of İzmir) to Gümüldür (Menderes District of İzmir). The survey teams measured runup and tsunami heights, flow depths, and inundation distances at more than 120 points at eight different localities. The largest tsunami runup among the surveyed locations was measured as 3.8 m in Akarca at a distance of 91 m from the shoreline. The maximum tsunami height of 2.3 m (with a flow depth of 1.4 m) was observed at Kaleiçi region in Sığacık, where the most severe tsunami damage was observed. There, the maximum runup height was measured as 1.9 m at the northeastern side of the bay. The survey team also investigated tsunami damage to coastal structures, noticing a gradual decrease in the impact from Gümüldür to further southeast. The findings of this field survey provide insights into the coastal impact of local tsunamis in the Aegean Sea.
We have studied Rayleigh wave group velocities beneath the Aegean region of Türkiye using ambient noise tomography. Noise data were gathered from 43 broadband seismic stations belonging to three ...permanent broad-band arrays. The cross-correlation method was used to estimate empirical Green’s functions. Group velocities of the fundamental mode Rayleigh waves were determined using multiple filter technique. We measured dispersion for each station pair in a period range of 2–12 s and computed maps of group velocity distribution using the fast marching surface tomography method. The group velocity maps correlate well with the geological and tectonic features of the region, displaying low velocities for the Quaternary alluvial basins, moderate velocities for Cretaceous rocks, and high velocities for the regions where gneiss and granitoid rocks outcrop. Low velocity anomalies may be associated with the grabens and horsts formed by faulting and to deep mantle flow. We detect potential offshore geothermal zones in Izmir and Candarli Bay. The information from broad-band networks improves the resolution of crustal surface wave velocity structures, particularly for shallow depths. This improvement will support the assessment of seismic hazard, as the shallow layers of the crust contribute significantly to seismic activity.
Bu çalışma, bilimsel araştırma ve eğitim amaçlı çalışmalarda kullanılabilecek yeni bir odak mekanizması
çözüm (OMÇ) programını içermektedir. Bu çalışma kapsamında ayrıca, WinFOC olarak adlandırılan
...program ile gerçekleştirilen uygulamalı araştırma sonuçlarına da yer verilmektedir. Fay düzlemi çözümlerini
hesaplamak ve deprem üreten farklı fay sistemlerinin hareket kinematiği incelemek için P-dalgası ilk hareket
yönü tekniğini temel alan WinFOC kullanılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda ülkemizde meydana gelen 7 farklı deprem
bu program ile analiz edilmiş ve elde edilen bulgular farklı kurumlar tarafından rapor edilen bulgularla
karşılaştırılmıştır. WinFOC ile gerçekleştirilen hesaplamalar, interaktif bir grafik arayüz kullanılarak
yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda sıkışma (P) ve gerilme (T) eksenleri ile fay düzlemlerinin doğrultu (), eğim ()
ve kayma () açıları hesaplanmıştır. Eğim atımlı faylanma olması durumunda, belirlenen fay düzlemi
üzerinden eğim yönü () ortaya konmuştur. Sıkışma ve açılma bölgeleri, farklı derecelerde değişen adım
aralığına sahip boylam daireleri ile birbirlerinden el ile ayrılmıştır. Program, OMÇ sonucu elde edilen
mekanizma kürelerinin depreme kaynaklık eden fay hareketi ile yorumlanabilmesi için, en uygun 3-Boyutlu
blok diyagram modelini de baskın hareketin atımına göre ölçekli olarak da çizebilmiştir.

Bu çalışma kapsamında İzmir ve çevresinin 3-B kabuk hız yapısının yerel deprem tomografisiyle araştırılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda 2008-2014 yılları arasında 44 istasyon tarafından kaydedilen 1723 deprem ...kaydı analiz edilmiştir. İncelenen depremler arasından düşük RMS ve yüksek faz okumasına sahip 773 depreme ait toplam 7556 P- ve 6381 S-fazı seçilmiştir. Tomografi bulgularından hareketle Vp ve Vp/Vs modellerine ait yatay ve düşey 3-B derinlik kesitleri oluşturulmuştur. Moho sınırının ~24 km derinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Üst mantoya kadar kabuk içinde 4 farklı sismik hız zonunun varlığı tespit edilmiştir. 1.katman (üst kabuk) ~0-7 km kalınlıkta Vp<5 km/sn, 2.katman (orta katman) ~7-15 km derinlikler arasında Vp ~6,2 km/sn, 3.katman (alt kabuk) 9 km kalınlıkta (15-24 km) Vp ~6,2-7,4 km/sn arasında, kabuk-manto sınırı altında yer alan 4.katman (h> 24 km) Vp>7,7 km/sn olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma alanında 3 farklı hız modeli gözlenmiştir. Bunlar; 1) Düşük Vp ve düşük Vp/Vs, 2) Düşük Vp ve yüksek Vp/Vs, 3) Yüksek Vp ve yüksek Vp/Vs şeklindedir. Yüksek gaz ve ısı içeren jeotermal alanların düşük Vp, düşük Vp/Vs modeli ile temsil edildiği gözlenmiştir. Seferihisar Fay Zonu ve Karşıyaka Fay Zonu arasında kalan geniş bir bölgede henüz keşfedilmemiş potansiyel jeotermal alanlar olabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Out of 747 children who underwent endoscopy, duodenal pathology was observed in 226 (30.3%) patients. Pathology was also present in the esophagus in 31.6% of patients and in the stomach in 58.4%. The level of chronic diarrhea was higher in patients with duodenal pathology when compared with those without duodenal pathology (p=0.002, OR: 3.91, 95% CI: 1.59–9.57). Helicobacter pylori infection was more common in patients with pathology in the duodenum (59.3%).
Duodenal pathology was detected in 30.3% of the present patients. A significantly higher level of chronic diarrhea was observed in subjects with duodenal pathologies compared to those with no such pathology. The rate of Helicobacter pylori infection was considerably higher than that in previous studies. In addition, there is a weak correlation between endoscopic appearance and histology of duodenitis.
Foram realizados vários estudos com relação a patologias do estômago e esôfago na faixa etária pediátrica. Contudo, poucos estudos das patologias duodenais em crianças. Visamos examinar as características clínicas, endoscópicas e histopatológicas juntamente com a etiologia das patologias duodenais em crianças.
Foram investigados retrospectivamente pacientes com idades entre 1 e 17 anos submetidos a esofagogastroduodenoscopia durante dois anos em nossa unidade. Os dados demográficos, clínicos e endoscópicos e a presença de patologias duodenais, gastrite e esofagite foram registrados com relação a todas as crianças.
Das 747 crianças submetidas a endoscopia, 226 (30,3%) pacientes apresentaram patologia duodenal. A patologia também esteve presente no esôfago de 31,6% dos pacientes e no estômago de 58,4% deles. O nível de diarreia crônica foi maior nos pacientes com patologia duodenal, em comparação aos pacientes sem patologia duodenal (p=0,002, RC: 3,91, IC de 95%: 1,59-9,57). Infecção por Helicobacter pylori foi mais comum em pacientes com patologia no duodeno (59,3%).
Foi detectada patologia duodenal em 30,3% de nossos pacientes. Um nível significativamente maior de diarreia crônica foi observado em indivíduos com patologias duodenais, em comparação aos sem nenhuma patologia. A infecção por Helicobacter pylori esteve presente consideravelmente maior que em estudos anteriores. Além disso, há uma fraca correlação entre a imagem endoscópica e a histologia de duodenite.
Bu çalışmada doğal gürültü tomografisi yöntemi
kullanılarak İzmir İç Körfezi 3-B üst kabuk hız yapısının ortaya konması
hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada İzmirNET’e bağlı 17 istasyondan elde edilen 1 yıl
...uzunluğunda doğal gürültü verileri kullanılmıştır. Yeterli sinyal/gürültü
oranına sahip verilerden yola çıkılarak çoklu süzgeç tekniği yardımıyla
dispersiyon eğrilerinden Rayleigh dalgası grup hızları elde edilmiştir.
Sonuçlar farklı periyot aralıkları için haritalanmıştır. Daha sonra 2, 4 ve 6
saniyelik periyotlara ait lokal dispersiyon eğrileri çıkartılarak ters çözüm
yardımıyla grup hızından kayma dalgası hızları elde edilmiştir. Körfez içi ve
yakın çevresinde bulunan çökel birimlere bağlı düşük hızlı alanlar, grup hızı
ve kayma dalgası hızı haritalarında 3 km derinliğe kadar net bir şekilde
gözlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte düşey yönlü derinlik kesitlerinde körfezin iç
kısmında sadece düşük değil yüksek hızlı alanların da varlığı saptanmıştır. Yöntem,
doğal gürültü tomografisi tekniği kullanılarak depremlere ihtiyaç duymadan
kabuk ve üst manto hakkında hassas ve yüksek çözünürlüklü görüntü sağlayabilir.
İleride geniş-bant veri seti kullanılarak Ege Bölgesine, Türkiye’ye veya yakın
coğrafyamızda yer alan bir bölgeye uygulanabilir.

Izmir metropolitan area is one of the biggest cities of Turkey in terms of population and industrial density. Amount of recordings and quality of located events increased since the new local seismic ...array, IzmirNET, was installed in 2008. Present study addresses to elucidate seismotectonics of Izmir vicinity by a new data set and reveal first results of seismological analysis obtained for 4.5 years.
930 small earthquakes are well located within less than 1.0km horizontal error (RMS≤0.15s) over a total of 1421 recorded events. Data were processed by using SEISAN Earthquake Analysis Software implemented at SeismoLab of Dokuz Eylul University. The Orhanli–Tuzla Fault Zone and Izmir faults are capable of producing a destructive earthquake. Events show clear clusters around the Outer Bay of Izmir Gulf and Sigacik Bay. We also detected some dense clusters Sigacik Bay to the South, and in the outer bay of Izmir Gulf along NW–SE direction.
We investigated kinematics of active faults around the Izmir and Foca areas by using 41 focal mechanism solutions from different algorithms. Foca is located 60km in the NW direction of Izmir. Mechanisms generally resulted in pure normal or dominant normal faulting with minor strike-slip components in agreement with the kinematics of the other fault zones in Western Turkey. A stress tensor study using selected fault plane solution indicates that the study area is under extension regime in an N–S direction with 71° plunge for maximum compressive principal stress axis (S1), and closer to horizontals for intermediate (S2) and minimum compressive principal stress axis (S3).
