Among ethnic groups in California Latinos continue to have the lowest high school graduation rates and the lowest college completion rates. This study focused on understanding the role parents can ...play and ways schools and educators can support immigrant Latino parents to improve these rates.
Framed with a funds of knowledge approach (Gonzalez, N., Moll, L., & Amanti, C., 2005), this mixed-methods qualitative and quantitative study was conducted in a public charter high school in a low income area of Los Angeles where the student body was primarily Latino. The mission of the school was to prepare students for higher education at a four-year institution.
The study results showed that it is possible for a school to engage immigrant Latino parents. With a better understanding of the aspirations, fears, and challenges faced by this community, the information can be provided in a form that is meaningful and that builds upon existing funds of knowledge. Critical components of the college outreach program were seeking parent input, developing a parent outreach plan, making information accessible, encouraging parent college visits, disseminating information beginning in middle school, providing personalized guidance, developing an undocumented student support plan, and creating a college-going culture. Implementing the the college access program encompassed gathering informal and formal feedback, presenting workshops, making documents available in Spanish as well as English, defining terms, arranging college visits, sending and displaying motivating communications, and engaging staff, students, and parents every step of the way.

(1995). The nucleotide sequence of the insertion site (GenBank accession no. AF020725) was generated by a two-step inverse-PCR procedure. Firstly, the downstream 1 times 8-kb HindIII junction fragment for the element was cloned using long-range inverse PCR (LR-IPCR). Secondly, the unoccupied site for ALVE-B-2, including fragments of upstream and downstream flanking sequence was cloned by applying standard inverse PCR (IPCR) to DNA from a line of chickens that is free of ALVE-B2 (line WG).
El cultivo de trigo (Triticum aestivum) es el de mayor importancia en el valle de Mexicali, México. Con base en su composición química, la planta completa de trigo es considerada de calidad similar a ...la alfalfa (Medicago sativa) o al ballico (Loliunt multiflorum). Por ello, se comparó la digestión del heno de trigo para grano cosechado en dos estados de crecimiento (45 y 90 d) con henos de alfalfa (floración media) y ballico (120 d después de sembrado). Cuatro novillos Holstein (326 ±20 kg PV) con cánulas ruminales y duodenales se usaron en un diseño cuadro latino 4X4. Los tratamientos (henos) fueron: 1) alfalfa, 2) ballico, 3) trigo cosechado a 45 d (T45d) y 4) trigo cosechado a 90 d (T90d). Los novillos alimentados con T45d y T90d consumieron menos N (0.10 y 0.11 kg d-1) (p≤0.05) que aquellos alimentados con alfalfa y ballico (0.16 y 0.19 kg d-1). El flujo duodenal de FDN (1.49 kg d-1) fue mayor (p<0.05) y el de N (0.15 kg d-1) menor (p ≤0.05) en los novillos alimentados con T90d. También la menor (p≤0.05) digestión ruminal (336 g kg-1) y total (517 g kg-1) de materia orgánica (MO) fue para T90d. La digestión ruminal y total de MO y de FDN del T45d fue similar (p >0.05) a la de alfalfa y ballico, y superior al trigo cosechado a los 90 d. Se concluye que la digestión del heno de trigo cosechado a los 45 d fue similar a los henos de alfalfa y ballico, pero superior al trigo cosechado a los 90 d.

IEEE 802.11 is being currently considered to develop telecommunications infrastructures in industrial environments. However, in such environments there may exist a high level of electromagnetic ...fields (EMF) contamination, due to the machinery in use. Wireless LANs are sensitive to this type of hazard, and therefore the performance of the protocols may be affected inside the industrial facilities. In this paper we conduct a study of the wireless link performance in these industrial scenarios, using personal computing devices. Such equipments will be likely used by employees rather than conventional computers. Since the results do not characterize the environment itself, but the set of environment and hardware, a proper measurement test-bed must include direct measurements with these devices. Besides, due to limitations in these equipments, a specific protocol to measure pairs of packet error probability and latency is also developed. Results reveal a significant linear dependency between both magnitudes, and a large correlation coefficient in the measurements under high EMF activity at mid-large ranges (distances greater than 5 meters)

Los gastos de trabajo de la yunta se determinaron por la expresión de Cabeza(1994).Los resultados destacan que la tecnologhía(V-3) es la de menor demanda energética(125 855Kcal/ha)y menor producción(29 491Kg/ha)
Fronds water content of fourteen seaweed species was determined by evaporation in an infrared Kett-Electric balance, in order to establish the time required for each frond to be taken to dryness. The ...results shown that the thin laminar fronds corresponding to Ulva, Iridaea and Porphyra and, also, species of the genera Gracilaria and Gigartina present the higher percentages of water content (84-87%) compared to the species of the genera Durvillaea, Mastocarpus and Gelidium (70-74%). Accordingly, species of thick fronds present a longer period of time to become dried than those presenting thin laminar fronds. These results are of great ecological significance and important for the calculation of both, the seaweed bed production and the phycocolloids yield.
