Personalized bone grafts are one of the best examples of the latest achievements in the biomedical engineering. In the area of maxillofacial bone tissue reconstruction or jaw bone augmentation, their ...application has for some time been on the rise, and its ever increasing significance is driven by the growing technical support. One of the key segments is the bone graft modelling customized to suit patient's specific needs, since it greatly determines not only the future anatomic functionality but also the acceptance probability of the graft by the bone tissue. With the graft geometry importance in mind, presented in this paper is an approach to personalized bone graft modelling. The approach is based on application of modern computer-aided systems and methods, and enables efficient geometric design while minimizing the risk of errors during modelling and placement stages. Verification is based on a case study of a personalized bone graft designed for a patient requiring mandible augmentation.

The results of this investigation show good potential of DMLS Co-Cr-Mo alloy for application in dentistry.
The paper presents a comparative study of the measuring values of the marginal gap related to the ceramic crowns made by dental CAD/CAM system using the replica technique and SEM. The study was ...conducted using three experimental groups, which consisted of ceramic crowns manufactured by the Cerec CAD/CAM system. The scanning procedure was carried out using three specialized dental 3D digitization systems from the Cerec family - two types of extraoral optical scanning systems and an intraoral optical scanner. Measurements of the marginal gap were carried out using the replica technique and SEM. The comparison of aggregate values of the marginal gap using the replica technique showed a statistically significant difference between the systems. The measured values of marginal gaps of ceramic crowns using the replica technique were significantly lower compared to those measured by SEM. The results indicate that the choice of technique for measuring the accuracy of ceramic crowns influences the final results of investigation.
The aim of this study was to determine the cytotoxicity of a Co-Cr alloy used for the rapid manufacture of removable partial denture frameworks using murine fibroblasts L929 cell lines and three test ...methods: the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a yellow tetra-zole) assay, the agar diffusion test (ADT) and the dye exclusion test (DET). Two groups of disc specimens (5 mm diameter, 1 mm thick) were fabricated. The first group was cast using a conventional method (CM) in a Nautilus CC casting. The second group was fabricated using selective laser melting (SLM) in SLM Realiser The total cell number and viability of cells pre-incubated with CM and SLM alloys were comparable to the control sample. Differences between the growth inhibitory effects of the CM and SLM alloys in the MTT assay were below 30%. Results of two independent agar diffusion tests with CM and SLM alloys showed neither detectable discoloration around or under the discs nor a detectable difference in staining intensity. As the cell response for both CM and SLM alloys was 0/0, the discs can be rated as non-cytotoxic. The results suggested that the F75 Co-Cr alloy used for the SLM process did not release harmful material that could cause acute effects against L929 cells under the given experimental conditions.
The aim of this paper was to establish if and to what extent being informed on oral hygiene procedures affects occurrence of denture-induced stomatitis in the elderly population. The investigation ...included 150 elderly denture wearers. The following was examined: denture cleaning techniques, incidence of denture-induced stomatitis, source of information in regard to oral health and level of education. The level of denture plaque was registered on the denture surface and expressed in percents. Only 30% of dentures were clean. It has been established that there is a statistically significant difference in occurrence of denture-induced stomatitis in patients who clean their dentures correctly and those who do it incorrectly. In patients with dentures demonstrating a greater level of plaque, the incidence of denture-induced stomatitis was higher. Only 18% denture wearers were given instructions on denture cleaning by their dentists. The level of education is not directly connected with oral health care. Apart from others, dentists should pay more attention to oral health care of the elderly.
Amongst the modem engineering technologies which have found broad application in the field of dentistry, one of the most widely used is the 3D digitization. This paper deals with the application of ...3D digitization systems in the field of dental prosthetics, and attempt to contribute in this field through comparative analysis of this kind of systems. Special attention is focused on extra oral 3D digitization systems and among them on non specialized dental 3D digitization systems. Beside the general overview and analysis of nine different systems, this paper presents experimental results of comparative accuracy analysis of two high-end 3D digitization systems - Atos II Triple Scan and Zeiss Metrotom 1500. Investigation was based on CAD inspection technique and included 3D and 2D cross sectional analysis. Results related to 3D analysis show that the majority of deviations are in positive direction, concentrated around 0,025 mm. Results of 2D analysis implicate the conclusion that the accuracy of the analysed systems is dependent on surface shape as well as on the model position during the process of 3D digitization.Original Abstract: Medu modernim inzenjerskim tehnologijama koje su pronasle siroku primjenu u podrucju stomatologije, jedna od najcesce koristenih je 3D digitalizacija. Ovaj se rad bavi primjenom sustava za 3D digitalizaciju u podrucju stomatoloske protetike i pokusava doprinijeti u tom podrucju kroz usporednu analizu ove vrste sustava. Posebna paznja je usmjerena na ekstra-oralne sustave 3D digitalizacije i medu njima na ne-specijalizirane stomatoloske sustave 3D digitalizacije. Osim opceg pregleda i analize devet razlicitih sustava, ovaj rad predstavlja eksperimentalne rezultate usporedne analize tocnosti dva vrhunska sustava 3D digitalizacije - GOM Atos II Triple Scan i Zeiss Metrotom 1500. Istrazivanje se temelji na tehnici CAD inspekcije i ukljucilo je 3D i 2D analize. Rezultati 3D analize pokazuju da je vecina odstupanja u pozitivnom smjeru, koncentrirana oko 0,025 mm. Rezultati 2D analize impliciraju zakljucak da tocnost analiziranih sustava ovisi o obliku povrsine, kao i polozaju modela tijekom procesa 3D digitalizacije.
