The study aims to control Salmonellosis through the addition of Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Smith extract as a feed additive to maintain the health of broilers’ visceral organs and blood serum. An ...experimental method was employed using Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which included five treatments: T0 (basal diet), T1 (basal diet + S. enteridis infection), T2 (basal diet + S. enteridis infection + 0.33 % Z. zerumbet extract), T3 (basal diet + S. enteridis infection + 0.67 % Z. zerumbet extract), and T4 (basal diet + S. enteridis infection + 1 % Z. zerumbet extract). Each treatment was repeated five times. As a result, the treatments affected the percentage of spleen and bursa weight. The highest percentage of spleen weight was found in T1, and the highest percentage of bursa weight was indicated in T3. The treatment did not affect the serum biochemistry variables, except for globulins, whose highest level was found in T4. It is concluded that the ethanolic extract of Z. zerumbet is a potentially safe feed additive for the control of Salmonellosis in broiler chickens.
The purpose was to determine the comparison of giving herbal herbs through feed and drinking water to the productivities of broilers. The research took place in the Closed House Cage and Animal ...Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The material was Day Old Chick (DOC) broilers by number 200 and herbs in feed and drinking water. The treatment of herbs was divided into two types as follows: Herbs in feed (TA) and herbs in drinking water (TB). Then, herbs in the feed and drinking water were divided into four treatments as follows: T0: Feed without herbs or 0 % (as control), T1: Feed with herbs 1 %, T2: Feed with herbs 2 %, and T3: Feed with herbs 3 %, with five replications. The herbs used are mixed with several medicinal plants. The variables were body weight gain, final body weight, daily feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio. The research data were analyzed by quantitative descriptive analysis. The conclusion was giving herbs through feed was better in final body weight, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio.
This research aims to see the small intestine performance of KUB ( Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan ) and Joper ( Jowo Super ) chickens given herbal medicine. Amount of 200 chickens consisting of Joper ...and KUB chickens, rearing was carried out using open-house system cage. The feed used is commercial feed. The herbal medicine was produced by the UMM experimental farm, given through feed as much as 1 % of the total feed. The treatment in this study was the provision of herbal medicine in the feed and no herbal medicine in the feed (control). The variables observed were the length and relative weight of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum). The data obtained was analyzed descriptively. Joper chickens given herbs and those without herbs gave relatively similar and normal small intestine weights. Meanwhile, in KUB chickens, chickens given herbal medicine had higher jejunum and ileum lengths compared to controls with values of 1.47 % and 1.17 % respectively. This research concludes that herbal medicine can increase the length and weight of the small intestine of KUB chickens but has no effect on Joper chickens.
Rahayu ID, Widodo W, Prihartini I, Winaya A. 2019. Antibacterial activity of ethanolic extracts from Zingiber zerumbet rhizome against Salmonella spp. Biodiversitas 20: 3322-3327. The study aimed at ...investigating the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extracts of the Lempuyang Gajah (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Smith) rhizome against Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 31194 and S. typhimurium ATCC 23564. An experimental method was employed for testing the antibacterial activity, with a completely randomized design (CRD) of factorial patterns. Factor I, ethanol concentrations which consisted of 45%; 70% and 95%, while factor II was the concentration of extracts, i.e 0%; 2.5%; 5%; 7.5% and 10%. The phytochemical screening results showed that the Z. zerumbet extracts with 45% and 70% ethanol, contained alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids, and saponins; however, the-95%-ethanol did not result in any saponins, but flavonoids instead. Meanwhile, the chromatogram patterns of all extracts showed zerumbone is a dominant compound. Extraction of Z. zerumbet using 95% ethanol has higher antibacterial activity against S. enteritidis than S. typhimurium. The extract with 10% concentration gave the highest antibacterial activity than other concentrations. It can be concluded that the Z. zerumbet L. Smith extracts with 95% ethanol and 10% concentration has the best antibacterial activity against S. enteritidis. Whereas S. typhimurium is effectively inhibited by extracts with 45% ethanol and 7.5% extract concentration.
Abstract In the realm of the global economy, agriculture holds a prominent status, acting as a vital source of employment and revenue for nations. Despite its crucial role, the agricultural sector ...contends with recurrent annual losses attributable to market fluctuations. One noteworthy contributor to the decline in agricultural productivity is the adverse impact of microplastics (MPs). This study aims to estimate the production losses suffered by key crops—rice, wheat, maize, tomato, and peas—due to MPs, along with the resulting economic consequences arising from the direct damage inflicted by MPs. To assess production losses caused by MPs, secondary data from diverse sources were employed for five plant varieties. The economic losses resulting from MPs were calculated for the period spanning 2017–2023, with cumulative data aggregated from all states. The study's findings indicate that the presence of MPs corresponds to an annual global output decline ranging from 0.4% to 34.7%. This decline translates to a reduction of approximately 0.01 million to 66.97 million tons per year in the production of food, fiber, and biofuels. The aggregate yearly economic losses are estimated at around USD 46.5 billion. These findings carry substantial implications for governmental policy in the agricultural domain, underscoring the necessity for current statistics on global losses incurred due to MPs. Moreover, they emphasize the importance of implementing a systematic surveillance system to monitor such losses effectively.
The national meat self-sufficiency program in Indonesia aims to increase the cattle population to meet the country's meat consumption. Beer dregs are a potential alternative feed supplement, as they ...contain high crude protein and soluble carbohydrates that can affect the rumen microbial population. In addition, essential oil biostimulators derived from citronella are added to the feed as a mixture of reinforcing feed to support cattle health and productivity. This study investigates the effect of essential biostimulators in supplementary feed as a mixture of reinforcing feed on the haematological and nutrient profiles of beef cattle serum, using the case study of beef cattle fattening in People's Livestock. Results showed that the addition of citronella essential oil improved nutrient digestibility and rumen health, and the combination of beer dregs and essential biostimulators positively impacted the haematological and nutrient profiles of beef cattle serum.
