Until recently, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) were the only approved drugs for the first-line treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Emerging trials of immune checkpoint inhibitors ...(ICI)-based regimens have shown survival benefits over the standard TKI. These studies challenge a paradigm shift in the management of mRCC concerning the identification of the subgroup of patients that would benefit from ICI in treatment-naive mRCC, the possibility of treatment discontinuation between TKI and ICI, and the sequencing of surgery and systemic treatment. This paper reviews the currently available data and discusses the paradigm shift concerning first-line treatments of mRCC.
Globally, cervical cancers continue to be one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. The primary treatment of patients with early-stage disease includes surgery or radiation therapy with or ...without chemotherapy. The main challenge in treating these patients is to maintain a curative approach and limit treatment-related morbidity. Traditionally, inoperable patients are treated with radiation therapy solely and operable patients undergo upfront surgery followed by adjuvant (chemo) radiotherapy in cases with poor histopathological prognostic features. Patients with locally advanced cervical cancers are treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy followed by an image-guided brachytherapy boost. In these patients, the main pattern of failure is distant relapse, encouraging intensification of systemic treatments to improve disease control. Ongoing trials are evaluating immunotherapy in locally advanced tumours following its encouraging efficacy reported in the recurrent and metastatic settings. In this article, clinical evidence of neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatments in cervical cancer patients is reviewed, with a focus on potential strategies to improve patients' outcome and minimize treatment-related morbidity.

Breast cancer (BC) is the second most diagnosed cancer in 2018 with around 2.3 million cases globally in 2020. In March 2020 and after its worldwide spread, the World Health Organization (WHO) ...declared the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, a respiratory disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, a pandemic. During this time, cancer patients were heavily impacted and their treatment plans were changed due to measures to fight the disease and solutions had to be found to maintain their follow-up and management from a distance. Some cancer groups worldwide have recommended then the use of telemedicine for oncology patients to ensure the continuity of medical care during the pandemic. This method was considered effective and clinicians worldwide continued using telehealth even after the cessation of worldwide restrictions. To this end, current up-to-date data on the use of telemedicine in BC patient after the COVID-19 outbreak are summarized in this narrative review.
Urothelial bladder cancer displays a high number of somatic mutations that render these tumors more responsive to immunotherapy. Several immunotherapeutic agents were examined in patients with ...advanced stage urothelial bladder cancer and recently atezolizumab - an (PDL-1) immune checkpoint inhibitor antibody - was approved for the treatment of patients with metastatic disease progressing after platinum combination therapy. Despite the great success, there are still some unanswered questions and ongoing trials that are in progress to define the role of combination therapy and sequencing strategies. The objective of our manuscript is to summarize the most recent data on immunotherapy in advanced urothelial cancer. Current challenges and future perspectives of immunotherapy as a monotherapy or in combination strategies will also be analyzed.
COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by the world health organization. Patients with cancer, and particularly hematologic malignancies may be at higher risk for severe complications due to their ...malignancy, immune dysregulation, therapy, and associated comorbidities. The oncology community has been proactive in issuing practice guidelines to help optimize management, and limit infection risk and complications from SARS-COV-2. Although hematologic malignancies account for only 10% of all cancers, their management is particularly complex, especially in the time of COVID-19. Screening or early detection of COVID-19 are central for preventative/mitigation strategy, which is the best current strategy in our battle against COVID-19. Herein, we provide an overview of COVID-19 screening strategies and highlight the unique aspects of treating patients with hematologic malignancies.
