In the last few decades the concept of responsibility from the legal field has become one of the central ethical and most recently bioethical categories and issues of research. Notwithstanding the ...evident increase of theoretical investigation and of interest for the practice of responsibility in the sense of an ethical category, it is still difficult to offer a one-sided and unambiguous definition of the referred to concept. This situation is exposed to difficulties as presently it is already possible to speak of different types/levels of responsibilities -- thereby literature recognizes causational responsibility, personal responsibility, political and collective responsibility, and lately the concept of corporate responsibility has become a frequent issue. The methodology used in this paper is review, analysis and interpretation of the bioethics literature, as well as literature considering the issue of corporate social responsibility. The purpose of research is to define and survey the particularities of these issues and to point out that the concept of corporate social responsibility has its strongholds in bioethics. The final result of this paper is to define the above-mentioned bioethical strongholds in corporate social responsibility, while the conclusion is that the concept of corporate social responsibility can find its main strongholds, as well as future perspectives, in bioethics. The research of historical development of bioethics has rarely had the phenomenon of bioethics institutions as the focus of its interest.
In the first part of the present paper a historical overview ...of bioethics is exposed. Subsequently, the major theses of the most important theories of institutions (sociological, anthropological/philosophical, etc.) are discussed. The central part of the paper deals with the theory of institutions by Arnold Gehlen. According to that theory, institutions are social constructs in which life purposes are collectively accepted and realized. The man creates those constructs aiming at alleviation from uncertainty of his own existence, subjective motivation, and continuous improvization in decision making.
Concluding part of the paper provides an analysis of the potentials and limitations of the application of Arnold Gehlen’s theory of institutions in an attempt of investigating the phenomenon of bioethics institutions.

Vrtoglav znanstveno-tehnološki razvoj suvremenoga društva
u posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća trajno potiče interes za sve
brojnije probleme bioetičkoga karaktera. Kompleksnost,
dugoročnost i ...neizvjesnost bioetičkih dilema i odluka odavno
ulaze u jedno od područja interesa političkog odlučivanja, i
to na nacionalnoj i na međunarodnoj razini. U radu su
izloženi rezultati istraživanja o etičkim povjerenstvima kao
posebnim tijelima etičke korekcije, kojima je glavna uloga
nadzor nad znanstvenim istraživanjima i procesima
donošenja etičkih odluka u radu zdravstvenih institucija. Pri
tome je poseban interes usmjeren na pravnu osnovu etičkih
povjerenstava u specifičnom kontekstu Europske unije, s
A vertiginous scientific-technological development of modern society in the recent couple of decades permanently animates the interest for an increasing number of issues of bioethical character. The ...complexity, long-standing & uncertainty of bioethical dilemmas & decisions have long since belonged to one of the interest fields of political decision-making, on the national as well as the international level. The work displays research results on ethical committees as special bodies for ethical correction whose main role consists in supervising scientific research & the process of making ethical decisions in health institutions. Particular interest is directed at the legal basis of ethical committees in the specific context of the European Union, since the non-obligatory advisory role of the Union's responsible structures has created a situation in which actual decisions concerning bioethics, but also the seriousness of their responsibility, have been left to institutions of individual countries. ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: A vertiginous scientific-technological development of modern society in the recent couple of decades permanently animates the interest for an increasing number of issues of ...bioethical character. The complexity, long-standing and uncertainty of bioethical dilemmas and decisions have long since belonged to one of the interest fields of political decision-making, on the national as well as the international level. The work displays research results on ethical committees as special bodies for ethical correction whose main role consists in supervising scientific research and the process of making ethical decisions in health institutions. The article offers an analytical review of the First International Summer School of Integrative Bioethics held in Mali Lošinj (Croatia) on September 4–16, 2006. The school presented in article is a ...mutual scientific-educational project of German and Croatian institutions whose general goal is to research integrative bioethics as a concept that goes beyond individual solutions, promotes interdisciplinarity and mutual collaboration in the consideration, contemplation and endeavours in solving complex (bio)ethical problems. Through an review and analysis of the school’s organisational scheme, employed methodological strategies and realised educational climate, we endeavoured to define a framework for the teaching of integrative bioethics, and the extent to which precisely the concept of integrative bioethics was a crucial element for the activity of the school.
