Aim: To evaluate the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of laparoscopic surgery for benign gynecological disease in women over 70 years old.
Materials and Methods: Fifty‐four women over 70 years old ...underwent surgery for benign gynecological disease from January 2003 to December 2009. Each woman was matched with two subjects of 30–50 years old in the younger group; the matching with patients undergoing a similar surgical technique was retrospective from December 2009. We evaluated body mass index, comorbidities, number of previous abdominal surgeries, operating time, hemoglobin change, postoperative complications, hospital stay, and return of bowel activity. The χ2‐test and t‐test were used to compare the results of the elderly group and the younger group.
Results: There were no significant differences between the elderly group (over 70 years old) and a matched younger group (aged 30–50 years old) in body mass index, number of previous abdominal surgeries, operating time, hospital stay, and postoperative complications.
Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery in elderly women for benign gynecological disease is feasible, efficient, and safe. However, a large prospective randomized study is needed to confirm the conclusion.
In this paper, we present a new timing recovery method using Gardner TED (Timing Error Detector) with a parabolic peak interpolation in underwater acoustic communication. The proposed algorithm has ...faster timing recovery speed and more accurate than Gardner TED because the sampling values are moved consistently to maximum or minimum point using parabolic peak interpolation. The simulation result shows that the proposed method has the improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance about 23%. In order to evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithm the sea trial was performed in the ocean. As a result, the proposed algorithm outperforms better BER performance about 20% of timing recovery than the previous Gardner method at 3 km transmitter-receiver distance. Also the proposed method had faster convergence speed about 1.4 times than Gardner method.
Background:
There is limited research exploring the behavioral intentions, beliefs, and application of theoretical models in relation to self-care in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).
...Objective:
This study aimed to identify the factors that influence self-care behavior in patients with AF.
Methods:
The study used an integrated behavioral model and collected data from 216 patients diagnosed with AF. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS/WIN 24.0 to verify the fit of the hypothesis model, confirm factor analysis, and the validity of the hypothesis itself.
Results:
Self-care behavioral intention (β = 0.433, p < .001) and habit (β = 0.395, p = .005) had a significant direct effect, while instrumental attitude (β = 0.077, p = .045), injunctive norm (β = 0.084, p = .037), and self-efficacy (β = 0.249, p = .011) had a significant indirect effect on self-care behavior, explaining 64.4% of the variance.
Conclusion:
The final model validated the factors that impact self-care behavior in patients with AF, highlighting the importance of fostering positive recognition of instrumental attitude, bolstering social influence and self-efficacy through significant individuals to improve self-care behavior. It is recommended to create an intervention program that encourages intentions and motivations for self-care behavior and incorporates tactics to make self-care behavior a habit. The study’s path diagram can serve as a conceptual framework for designing strategies to enhance self-care behavior in patients with AF.
The carbon nanotubes (CNTs) synthesized at various reaction conditions (reaction temperature, gas environment, and the ratio of mixture gas) using catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) in a ...fluidized bed reactor have quite different properties according to their tube diameter and crystallinity. Macroscopic field emission properties of the CNT film have been determined by a vacuum field emission system that displays the integrated field emission using a phosphor ITO-glass screen. Field emission properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) depend on their electrical conductivity and structural quality such as the tube diameter and crystallinity (

). The smaller the mean diameter and the higher the crystallinity of the CNTs, the better the field emission properties could be achieved.
In this paper, a decision feedback equalizer(DFE) is applied to the PSSK(Phase Shift Silence Keying) and PSPM (Phase Shift Pulse-position Modulation) for low-power communication in underwater sensor ...network. All of the M-ary PSK(Phase Shift Keying) symbol of PSSK that was proposed for low power communication in WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) has the silence duration for a half period of symbol. Similarly, PSPM is also a kind of PSK modulation which is combined with PPM(Pulse Position Modulation). The bandwidth efficiency of PSPM is lower than conventional PSK and PSSK, but the power efficiency better than those methods. However, the problem of PSSK/PSPM is so erratic to find PSK signal duration because of the delay spreads. If the decision for the signal position is wrong, then the error probability of PSSK/PSPM is significantly increased. For this reason, we applied to these modulations the DFE and compared the BER performances about QPSK, PSSK and PSPM data which is acquired from the sea trials.
