Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) was initially recognized as a factor that causes the necrosis of tumors, but it has been recently identified to have additional important functions as a ...pathological component of autoimmune diseases. TNF-α binds to two different receptors, which initiate signal transduction pathways. These pathways lead to various cellular responses, including cell survival, differentiation, and proliferation. However, the inappropriate or excessive activation of TNF-α signaling is associated with chronic inflammation and can eventually lead to the development of pathological complications such as autoimmune diseases. Understanding of the TNF-α signaling mechanism has been expanded and applied for the treatment of immune diseases, which has resulted in the development of effective therapeutic tools, including TNF-α inhibitors. Currently, clinically approved TNF-α inhibitors have shown noticeable potency in a variety of autoimmune diseases, and novel TNF-α signaling inhibitors are being clinically evaluated. In this review, we briefly introduce the impact of TNF-α signaling on autoimmune diseases and its inhibitors, which are used as therapeutic agents against autoimmune diseases.
Here, we developed a sophisticated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sensor capable of monitoring the progress of Alzheimer’s disease by quantifying the concentration of amyloid beta (Aβ) and pituitary ...adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide 38 (PACAP-38). Western blot analysis following induction of apoptosis in mouse hippocampal neurons with TNF-α demonstrated that PACAP-38/Aβ binding inhibited neural cell apoptosis. To verify the direct binding of PACAP-38 to Aβ, a simulated docking model was generated, and binding affinities were quantified using surface plasmon resonance (SPR). After PACAP-38-Aβ binding was confirmed, the properties of each protein were evaluated by the rGO sensor based on differences in their charge to determine the PACAP-38: Aβ ratio. Based on the observed changes in resistance obtained by measuring each protein monomer, expected resistance change values were derived for each binding reaction and subsequent accumulation of PACAP-38 and Aβ. Subsequently, rGO sensor measured changes in resistance following binding and accumulation of each protein. The resistance change values were compared with the expected values to verify the accuracy of the sensor for quantifying accumulated proteins. The accuracy of the sensor was determined based on deviation of the sensor output within its dynamic range. The significance was expressed based on the equation for significance values and was confirmed to be as high as 96% between expected and measured values. Collectively, our results verify the neuroprotective role of PACAP-38 and proposes rGO sensor as a potential tool for early diagnosis of as well as monitoring the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
•The effect of reducing apoptosis suggests a neuroprotective function of PACAP-38.•Utilizing the PACAP-38 in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by inhibition of Aβ aggregation through the formation of accumulation form.•The rGO biosensor can detect PACAP-38 and Aβ, according to difference in charge of two proteins.•Finally, the accumulation between PACAP-38 and Aβ can be quantitatively measured in the rGO biosensor.
Oral montelukast (MTK) is prescribed to treat asthma or rhinitis, and is clinically investigated as new medication in the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia. Herein, in order to better patient's ...compliance, microsuspensions (MSs)-based oral liquid preparations of montelukast (MTK) were formulated with polymeric suspending agents including hypromellose (HPMC), and those drug-polymer interaction, physicochemical stability, dissolution, and in vivo pharmacokinetic profile was evaluated. When amorphous MTK particle was suspended in aqueous vehicle, it was readily converted into crystalline form and grown into aggregates, drastically lowering dissolution rate. However, the addition of HPMC polymer markedly suppressed the crystal growth, providing both improved drug stability and profound dissolution profile. Raman spectrometry denoted the inter-molecular hydrogen boding between MTK particle and HPMC polymer. The crystal growth or dissolution profile of MSs was markedly affected by pharmaceutical additives (sucrose or simethicone) in the preparations or storage temperature. The optimized HPMC-based MS exhibited over 80% higher bioavailability, compared to marketed granule (Singulair®) in rats. Therefore, novel MTK-loaded MS can be a promising liquid preparation, bettering oral absorption and patient's compliance.

정원 수요자들은 정원을 감상하는 것뿐만 아니라, 직접 조성하고 정원 디자이너로써의 역할을 하고자 하는 욕구를 가지고 있으나, 정원의 주된 소재인 식물에 대한 식재나 관리에 대한 전문지식 부족으로 정원활동에 있어 큰 어려움을 나타내고 있다. 따라서 정원수요자의 정원활동을 장려하기 위해서는 그들이 정원을 쉽게 경험하고 조성할 수 있도록 정원 수요자들의 ...선호도를 파악하고 선호도가 높은 조성 장소별 정원조성 요령 및 선호 식물에 대한 정보제공이 필요하다.
본 연구는 정원 수요자들의 정원을 조성하는 목적에 따른 조성 장소와 식물특성에 대한 선호도를 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 정원 수요자로 예상되는 2017년 대한민국 조경ㆍ정원박람회 방문객을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 분석 결과, 정원을 조성하는 목적에 따라 정원 수요자는 감상목적형, 다기능형, 참여목적형의 세 개의 군집으로 구분되었다. 감상목적형은 정원 조성 장소로 베란다 및 테라스와 개인주택 앞마당을 선호하며, 다른 유형과 비교하여 실외장소보다는 실내장소를 선호하고 있었다. 식물소재 선정에 있어서는 실내 환경에서도 관리가 용이하고, 화색과 잎색을 통하여 자연의 색을 감상할 수 있는 소재를 선호하였다. 다기능형은 정원 조성 장소로 개인주택 앞마당을 선호하며, 다른 유형과 비교해서는 ‘공동주택 유휴지’와 ‘도심 내 커뮤니티 정원’에서 높은 선호도를 나타내고 있는 것으로 보아, 정원활동에 대한 이해도가 높은 군집으로 분석되었다. 식물소재 선정에 있어서는 작물과 열매 수확이 가능한 유실수나 텃밭작물과 같이 생산성을 가진 소재를 선호하였다. 참여목적형의 경우, 정원 조성 장소로 베란다 및 테라스와 개인주택 앞마당을 선호하였다. 수종에 있어서는 관리가 용이한 식물을 선호하였다.
본 연구는 정원 수요자의 조성 목적별로 조성 장소와 식물 특성에 대한 선호도를 도출하고, 정원 수요자 유형별 정원 조성 장소 및 식물 특성 선정을 위한 기초자료를 제공하였다는데 의의가 있다.

However, they express a great difficulty in gardening activities such as planting and managing plants, the main materials of the garden, due to lack of expertise. Therefore, in order to encourage hobby gardening activities, it is necessary to understand the preferences of the gardeners so that they can easily experience and create a garden, and to provide information on gardening know-how and preferred plants according to places given high preference.
This study analyzed the preference for places and plants characteristics according to the purpose of creating a garden. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted with visitors to the Korea Landscape and Garden Expo, expected to have been attended primarily by gardening enthusiasts. As a result, gardeners were divided into three groups: appraisal - purposed type, multifunctional type, and participation - purposed type. The group of appraisal purposed type preferred porches and terraces, and private home front yards as well as favored indoor places rather than outdoor places compared with other types. In selecting plants, they prefer plants that can be easily managed in an indoor environment and appreciate natural colors through the colors of flowers and leaves.
The multifunctional type group preferred a private home front yard as a garden creation space. Compared with the other types, it showed a high preference for 'unoccupied land in urban housing' and 'community garden' and was analyzed as a group having a high understanding of garden activities. In selecting plants, this group preferred fruit trees or productive plants such as homegrown crops. The participation purposed type group preferred porches and terraces as well as private home front yards as a gardening space. For plants, they preferred plants that are easy to manage.
It is meaningful that this study provided preferences for places and plant characteristics according to the creative purpose of the gardener and provided basic data for selecting the place and the plant characteristics of the garden according to the gardener's type.
