A recent technological development is the laser printer that is compatible with microcomputers. Such laser printers as the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet are similar to copy machines in appearance and ...operation. A tray feeds paper into both machines, and characters are affixed to the paper by a charged ink cylinder. However, with a laser printer, a laser beam guides the ink jets to locations on the cylinder. The advantages of laser printers include: 1. fast printing speed, 2. simultaneous printing of tax forms and client information, 3. quiet operation, 4. the ability to change type styles and sizes, and 5. excellent print quality. The primary disadvantage of laser printers is the price, which is usually between $4,000 and $5,000. Also, software packages must have a laser print feature in order to be used with laser printers.
