This paper analyzes selected examples of idioms containing the component head in Croatian and Hungarian. Despite the fact that Hungarian and Croatian are not cognate languages, due to the universal ...experiences and to the fact that they belong to a common cultural circle, these languages have a large correspondence in their phraseology, which can be seen in somatic idioms as body parts represent a kind of universality. The aim of this paper is to show similarities and differences in lexical content and meaning of Croatian and Hungarian idioms containing the component head. The motivational basis of idioms is also discussed as well as the influence of basic and transferred meanings of the lexeme head on the meaning of idioms.
The aim of this paper is to list the words used to describe desserts in the Fiuman speech and to specify their proximal (etymologia proxima) and distal (etymologia remota) etymology. In that way the current state of the Fiuman lexis with respect to culinary art (in the semantic subgroup of desserts) in Rijeka will be recorded, and at the same time we will show that the cultural and linguistic circles have coexisted in this area. This research started in 2015 and was continued in 2017 and 2018. The methodology used was based on the excerption of lexical items from extant Fiuman dictionaries (Gottardi 2004; Samani 2007; Pafundi 2011) which then served as the basis for the creation of a questionnaire which was used in field research. Following an interview with native speakers, the collected lexemes underwent an etymological analysis. The underlying rationale for this approach was that the analysis would demonstrate the representation of all historical linguistic layers in the city of Rijeka. Also, by referring to the available Chakavian dictionaries, we wanted to show that the culture of a certain locale in the domain of culinary arts transcends linguistic differences. A total of 25 lexemes were identified and analysed. The resulting material shows presence of Romance, Slavic and Germanic linguistic layers. However, there are no Hungarian elements. The reason for this probably lies in the fact that in the Austro-Hungarian period Vienna had primacy when it came to dessert making, which might explain why there is no mention of Hungarian desserts. Insight into Chakavian dictionaries has established the presence of dessert names in the surrounding speeches of Rijeka, thus confirming the assumption that the domain of culinary arts transcends inguistic differences. On the basis of the analysis of culinary lexical items in the Fiuman speech this article reflects linguistic and cultural contacts in Rijeka and its surroundings and thus contributes to the field of Romance linguistics in general.

Samarica ili derić jednostavna je konstrukcija koja se sastoji od koso položene
grede i sustava užadi i kolotura, a služi(la je) za pretovar tereta na brodovima. Cilj je
ovoga rada terenskim ...ispitivanjem u Kostreni popisati osnovne dijelove toga sustava
te ih etimološki obraditi. U etimološkoj će se analizi odrediti posljednji jezik davalac
za kostrensku riječ, tj. njezina neposredna etimologija (etymologia proxima). Nakon
toga pokušat će se analizirati i njezina daleka etimologija (etymologia remota).
This paper gives a comparative analysis of one level of phrasemes in Croatian and Italianlanguage – that whose components are parts of body hand and its parts. The level was chosenbecause the parts ...of body are probably the richest phraseological level in most languages. The aim of this paper was to determine in what amount has the possible basic and transferred meaning of the word hand and its parts (fist, finger, palm, nail, elbow and shoulder) influenced the meaning of the whole phraseme on one hand and the symbolism of an individual phraseme on another.
Thus, lexical meaning of each part of body was determined to show if they are realized in the phrasemes surrounding. The semantic phenomena of meronymy and holonymy on the examples of phrasemes are also discussed, (i.e. (im)possibility of their substitution in certain phrasemes).
The conducted analysis proved that basic and transferred meaning of the word hand and its parts are generated in a large number of phrasemes (i.e. they influenced the background image and the meaning of a certain phraseme). The large correspondence in lexical meaning in both languages and phrasemes are registered, which is, of course, a consequence of the fact that the role of hand and other body parts represents a kind of universality. Therefore, the correspondence could also be expected in other European languages. However, the structural and semantic differences between Croatian and Italian phrasemes are also registered which is, as always when it comes to the phraseology, the result of national and cultural particularities. That particularly applies to the phrasemes of gestural origin because it does not mean that all gestures in all cultures have the same meaning, and some are not even used. There was a great possibility of replacement of holonyms by meronyms which then make synonymous pair, such as holonym hand by meronym fist, palm or fingers... This happens because of the wide range of meanings of the word hand, unlike his meronyms. Therefore, the replacement of some meronym by holonym hand has not been confirmed. Because of the possibility of replacement of the word hand by its parts, a great number of lexical variants have been confirmed in the Croatian phrasemes.
