The decays ψ2(3823 ) → γχc0,1,2, π+π− J/ψ, π0π0J/ψ , ηJ/ψ, and π0J/ψ are searched for using the reaction e+e− → π+π− ψ2 (3823) in a 19 fb−1 data sample collected at center-of-mass energies between ...4.1 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector. The process ψ2(3823) → γχc1 is observed in a 9 fb−1 data sample in the center-of-mass energy range 4.3–4.7 GeV, which confirms a previous observation but with a higher significance of 11.8 σ , and evidence for ψ2(3823) → γχc2 is found with a significance of 3.2 σ for the first time. The branching-fraction ratio ... is determined. No significant ψ2 (3823) signals are observed for any of the other decay channels. Upper limits of branching-fraction ratios for ψ2(3823 ) → π+π− J/ψ , π0π0 J/ψ, ηJ/ψ , π0 J/ψ, γ χc0 relative to ψ2 (3823) → γχc1 are reported. The process e+e− → π0π0ψ2 (3823) is also searched for, and we find evidence for the process with a significance of 4.3 σ . We study the process e^{+}e^{-}→Λ_{c}^{+}Λover ¯_{c}^{-} at twelve center-of-mass energies from 4.6119 to 4.9509 GeV using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The ...Born cross sections and effective form factors (|G_{eff}|) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}. Flat cross sections around 4.63 GeV are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure Y(4630), as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the |G_{eff}| energy dependence of Λ_{c}^{+}, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors (|G_{E}| and |G_{M}|) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy dependence of the form factor ratio |G_{E}/G_{M}| is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.
Background
Several previous researches had found artery stiffness associated skeletal muscle mass, but not considering muscle strength and physical performance, which also were compositions of ...sarcopenia. This study aims to reveal the relationship of artery stiffness and sarcopenia using the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia criteria.
Methods
Study was performed on 1002 Chinese community dwelling participants aged ≥65 years from November 2016 to March 2017. Body composition, muscle strength, physical performance, and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) considering as artery stiffness index were measured.
Results
In multiple regression analysis, baPWV was associated with handgrip (β=−0.13, P=0.04) and Relative skeletal muscle mass index (ASM/Ht
2
) (β=−0.02, P<0.01), but not with 4-meter velocity (P=0.21). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that 1-SD (3.50m/s) increased in baPWV was still associated with a 11% (CI, 4%–20%; P<0.01) higher odds of being sarcopenia. In the gender subgroup analysis, the relationship of baPWV and sarcopenia remain significant in men (OR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.07–1.42, P<0.01), but not in women (P=0.07).
Conclusions
High brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is associated with sarcopenia in Chinese community-dwelling elderly, with gender differences.
The human gut microbiota is inextricably linked to health and disease. One important function of the commensal organisms living in the intestine is to provide colonization resistance against invading ...enteric pathogens. Because of the complex nature of the interaction between the microbiota and its host, multiple mechanisms likely contribute to resistance. In this review, we dissect the biological role of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), which are fermentation end products of the intestinal microbiota, in host-pathogen interactions. SCFA exert an extensive influence on host physiology through nutritional, regulatory, and immunomodulatory functions and can also affect bacterial fitness as a form of acid stress. Moreover, SCFA act as a signal for virulence gene regulation in common enteric pathogens. Taken together, these studies highlight the importance of the chemical environment where the biology of the host, the microbiota, and the pathogen intersects, which provides a basis for designing effective infection prevention and control.

AIMS: To investigate the effects of an egg yolk‐derived immunoglobulin (IgY) specific to Prevotella intermedia in vitro and in vivo. METHODS AND RESULTS: An IgY specific to P. intermedia was produced ...by immunizing hens with formaldehyde‐inactivated P. intermedia and showed high titres when subjected to an ELISA. The obtained IgY inhibited the growth of P. intermedia in a dose‐dependent manner at concentrations from 1 to 20 mg ml⁻¹in Center for Disease Control and Prevention liquid medium. Forty rats were challenged with P. intermedia on gingivae and then randomly divided into four groups, which were syringed respectively with phosphate‐buffered saline, 1 mg ml⁻¹of tinidazole, 20 mg ml⁻¹of nonspecific IgY and 20 mg ml⁻¹of the IgY specific to P. intermedia at a dosage of 300 μl per day. Gingival index (GI), plaque index (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), counts of white blood cell (WBC) and histopathological slide of the gums were measured after treatment for 15 days. The gingivitis rats treated with the IgY specific to P. intermedia showed significantly decreased GI, PI, BOP and WBC (P < 0·05). Gum histopathology of the treated rats demonstrated a superior protective effect of the specific IgY on P. intermedia‐mediated gingivitis. CONCLUSIONS: A new immunoglobulin specific to P. intermedia was developed from egg yolk. This specific IgY can dose‐dependently inhibit the growth of P. intermedia and protect rats from gingivitis induced by P. intermedia. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The new IgY has potential for the treatment of P. intermedia‐mediated gingivitis.
Turbulence is ubiquitous in space and astrophysical plasmas, such as the solar wind, planetary magnetospheres, and the interstellar medium. It plays a key role in converting electric and magnetic ...energies into kinetic energy of the plasma particles. Here, the properties of MHD and kinetic-scale magnetic fluctuations in the Mercury environment are investigated using data collected by the MESSENGER spacecraft from 2011 March 23 to 2015 April 28. It is found that spectral indices at MHD scales vary from ∼−5/3 in the near-Planet solar wind (possibly the foreshock) to ∼−1.3 within the magnetosheath close to bow shock. The spectra steepen further in the magnetosheath close to magnetopause, and reach ∼−2.2 within the magnetosphere. Only 15% of events were found to have the Kolmogorov scaling ∼−5/3 in the magnetosheath. The high variability of the spectral indices implies that the scaling of turbulent fluctuations in the magnetosheath is not universal, and it emphasizes the role of the bow shock on the turbulence dynamics, at least at the largest scales. Analysis of the magnetic compressibility shows that only ∼30% of events with Kolmogorov inertial range in the magnetosheath are dominated by (shear) Alfvénic fluctuations, which contrasts with well-known features of solar wind turbulence. At kinetic scales, the steepest spectra (slopes ∼−2.8) occur in the solar wind, before flattening to ∼−2 near the bow shock, then steepening again to ∼−2.8 in the magnetosheath. The spectral indices at kinetic scales are close to the ones at large scales in the magnetosphere, which may be caused by the presence of heavy ions in the latter. The statistical results are compared with previous observations reported in other planetary plasma environments.
