An international inter-experimental study group on data preservation and long-term analysis in HEP (DPHEP) was convened at the end of 2008 and held a series of workshops during 2009. The HERA ...experiments H1, ZEUS, HERMES as well as the IT division and the Library are well represented in DPHEP and efforts are now being made to form a coherent approach at DESY. Various options for preservation are explored, from permanent evolution (H1) to the use of virtualisation techniques (ZEUS). Both experiments have planned the computing and the associated resources until 2013 and now explore possibilities to ensure the maintenance of the data analysis capabilities beyond 2013. A common effort and additional resources may lead to longer viability of data analysis. Technical solutions have been investigated by DESY-IT and involve virtualisation systems tailored for long term software preservation as well as systems for self consistent data archiving and migration. The communication between experiments, DESY-IT and the Library have put forward the possibility for further common developments related to documentation scanning and storage as well as pilot projects within the HEP documentation system INSPIRE. The evaluation of such projects is ongoing and concrete proposals to ensure HERA data analysis after 2013 are expected in 2010.
The European X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL.EU) is an international research facility presently under construction in the area of Hamburg, Germany, which will start its operation at the end of 2016 ...1. The superconducting linear accelerator of the facility will deliver electron bunches with an energy of up to 17.5 GeV, arranged in trains of typically 2700 bunches at a repetition rate of 4.5 MHz. Each train will be followed by a gap of 99.4 ms. Spatially coherent X-rays are generated from the electron bunches in a series of undulators based on the Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) process, in three photon beamlines extending over a length of up to 200 m. Bronchial asthma is a common disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways. Paediatric asthma is still a current problem and children with exacerbation frequently are hospitalized. The ...aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of allergic and non-allergic asthma in children hospitalized at the Department of Paediatric Pulmonology and Rheumatology of the University Children’s Hospital in Lublin in 2016-2020, and to analyze the most common allergens associated with allergic asthma.
The study group consisted of 667 patients, aged 6 to 215 months (average 64 months). The data collected for this retrospective study includes: gender, age, month, quarter of year, and year of hospitalization, type of asthma and type of allergens.
We observed a decrease of hospitalization in the analyzed years: in 2016 – 160 children, and in 2020 – 74. Children with allergic asthma (375 children) were more frequently hospitalized than patients with non-allergic asthma, and we found correlations between age and type of asthma and between age and type of allergy. Non-allergic asthma was observed in the youngest children, while in older children, allergic-asthma dominated. We also observed significant differences in children’s hospitalization depending on the season of the year. The most frequent allergen causing asthma was house dust mites.
The incidence of hospitalizations caused by asthma exacerbation is declining. Among the youngest population, exacerbations of asthma related to respiratory tract infection predominate, while in the older, allergy to inhalation allergens is the main cause.

The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of ψ(2S) and J/ψ(1S) at an ep centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the kinematic range 2<Q2<80 GeV2, ...30<W<210 GeV and |t|<1 GeV2, where Q2 is the photon virtuality, W is the photon–proton centre-of-mass energy and t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The data for 2<Q2<5 GeV2 were taken in the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb−1. The data for 5<Q2<80 GeV2 are from both HERA I and HERA II periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb−1. The decay modes analysed were μ+μ− and J/ψ(1S)π+π− for the ψ(2S) and μ+μ− for the J/ψ(1S). The cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S) has been measured as a function of Q2,W and t. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production.
The Canada warbler (Wilsonia canadensis) is one of many common neotropical migrants whose populations are in decline across their range. Influences of habitat loss and degradation on breeding or ...wintering grounds have been postulated as possible causes, but few empirical data exist to support a specific cause. Based on previous studies linking abundances of Canada warbler and spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana), we hypothesized that the Canada warbler may be influenced by a persistent decline in spruce budworm throughout the bird's breeding range, a hypothesis that has received little attention. This hypothesis makes 5 predictions: 1) budworm outbreaks and warbler detections should be spatially and temporally coincident; 2) the relationship between Canada warbler and spruce budworm outbreaks should be similar to relationships for other warblers known to be spruce budworm associates; 3) the relationship should be stronger than for warblers lacking an association with spruce budworm; 4) because temporal trends of both spruce budworm and Canada warblers have varied throughout Canadian provinces, declines in Canada warblers should be seen only in provinces where spruce budworm also declined; and 5) variation in Canada warbler abundance should reflect variation in supply of preferred habitat for the spruce budworm if habitat rather than budworm abundance is the key. Our analyses supported predictions 1–4, suggesting that Canada warbler may be even more closely associated with spruce budworm than are known associated species, a phenomenon noted in the literature but previously unexplained. Prediction 5 was not supported, because budworm habitat (area of mature and older balsam fir Abies balsamea and white spruce Picea glauca) remained constant in Ontario while warbler abundance declined. Although the correlative nature of these results precludes inference of a causal relationship between the declines of the Canada warbler and spruce budworm, we postulate that potential links may exist directly, where spruce budworm outbreaks provide elevated levels of insect prey items for breeding Canada warblers, or indirectly through changes in forest structure and composition following outbreaks. These results have implications when considering long-term trends in Canada warbler populations, because it may be impossible to alter population trends for species linked to the timing and magnitude of spruce budworm outbreaks.

The data were taken at proton beam energies of 920, 820, 575 and 460 GeV and an electron beam energy of 27.5 GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb... and span six orders of magnitude in negative four-momentum-transfer squared, ..., and Bjorken x. The correlations of the systematic uncertainties were evaluated and taken into account for the combination. The combined cross sections were input to QCD analyses at leading order, next-to-leading order and at next-to-next-to-leading order, providing a new set of parton distribution functions, called HERAPDF2.0. In addition to the experimental uncertainties, model and parameterisation uncertainties were assessed for these parton distribution functions. Variants of HERAPDF2.0 with an alternative gluon parameterisation, HERAPDF2.0AG, and using fixed-flavour-number schemes, HERAPDF2.0FF, are presented. The analysis was extended by including HERA data on charm and jet production, resulting in the variant HERAPDF2.0Jets. This paper presents a summary of presentations and discussions at a 3-day workshop on research and management of forest birds in Ontario forests. While many forest birds in Ontario do not appear to ...be negatively affected over the long term by forest management, some species were noted as declining using Breeding Bird Atlas data and more research is required to understand the causes, some of which may well be related to habitat change on the wintering grounds. For example, the aerial foragers as a group have declined significantly during the past 20 years. Recent research suggests landscape convergence between managed and fire-origin stands for bird species over time, but negative effects were suggested for boreal chickadee (Poecile hudsonsicus), brown creeper (Certhia familiaris), and some cavity-users, although there is no evidence of declines in these species from the current atlas data. This inconsistency needs to be evaluated. In Carolinian forests, even small-scale tree harvesting in this already highly fragmented landscape can have deleterious effects on breeding success for some species, such as wood thrush (Hylocichla mustelina) and rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus). New modelling techniques and meta-analyses seem to hold considerable promise as tools to help managers understand key habitats, species that require special attention, and as predictive models of forest management effects. A large number of recommendations to improve the management of forest birds are provided and as is a suggested research agenda to improve our understanding of key factors affecting birds in managed forests.
