Introduction: Applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology continue to increase every year, however most radiology residencies lack a dedicated AI education curriculum. Fundamental AI ...education resources are even more sparse for trainees in low- to middle-income countries and under-resourced healthcare systems. The AI Literacy Course assesses the effectiveness and scalability of a free, remote AI education curriculum to increase understanding of fundamental AI terms, methods, and applications in radiology among radiology trainees in the United States and internationally. Method: A week-long AI in radiology literacy course for radiology trainees was held October 3-7, 2022. Ten 30-minute lectures utilizing a remote learning format covered basic AI terms and methods, clinical applications of AI in radiology by three different subspecialties, and special topics lectures. A proctored, hands-on clinical AI session allowed participants to directly use an FDA-cleared, AI-assisted viewer and reporting system for advanced cancer. Pre- and post-course electronic surveys were distributed to assess participants' knowledge of AI terminology and applications, as well as their interest in AI education. Results: A total of 25 residency programs throughout the US participated in the course with participants attending from 10 countries. An average of 150 participants viewed the course per day. Nearly all participants reported insufficient exposure to AI in their radiology training (95.8%). Participant knowledge of fundamental AI terms and methods increased after completion of the course, with an average pre-course evaluation of 8.3/15 and a post-course evaluation of 10.0/15 (p=0.01). Conclusion: The scalability of the AI Literacy Course demonstrates a viable model to bring accessible fundamental AI education to radiology trainees in the United States and internationally.
Patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)/metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) face a multifaceted disease burden which includes impaired health-related ...quality of life (HRQL) and potential stigmatization. We aimed to assess the burden of liver disease in patients with NAFLD and the relationship between experience of stigma and HRQL.
Members of the Global NASH Council created a survey about disease burden in NAFLD. Participants completed a 35-item questionnaire to assess liver disease burden (LDB) (seven domains), the 36-item CLDQ-NASH (six domains) survey to assess HRQL and reported their experience with stigmatization and discrimination.
A total of 2,117 patients with NAFLD from 24 countries completed the LDB survey (48% Middle East and North Africa, 18% Europe, 16% USA, 18% Asia) and 778 competed CLDQ-NASH. Of the study group, 9% reported stigma due to NAFLD and 26% due to obesity. Participants who reported stigmatization due to NAFLD had substantially lower CLDQ-NASH scores (all p <0.0001). In multivariate analyses, experience with stigmatization or discrimination due to NAFLD was the strongest independent predictor of lower HRQL scores (beta from -5% to -8% of score range size, p <0.02). Experience with stigmatization due to obesity was associated with lower Activity, Emotional Health, Fatigue, and Worry domain scores, and being uncomfortable with the term “fatty liver disease” with lower Emotional Health scores (all p <0.05). In addition to stigma, the greatest disease burden as assessed by LDB was related to patients’ self-blame for their liver disease.
Stigmatization of patients with NAFLD, whether it is caused by obesity or NAFLD, is strongly and independently associated with a substantial impairment of their HRQL. Self-blame is an important part of disease burden among patients with NAFLD.

Physicians treating patients with NAFLD should be aware of the profound implications of stigma, the high prevalence of self-blame in the context of this disease burden, and that providers’ perception may not adequately reflect patients’ perspective and experience with the disease.

The clinical application of normothermic ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has increased donor lung utilization for transplantation through functional assessment. To develop it as a platform for donor ...lung repair, reconditioning and regeneration, the perfusate should be modified to support the lung during extended EVLP.
Human lung epithelial cells and pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells were cultured, and the effects of Steen solution (commonly used EVLP perfusate) on basic cellular function were tested. Steen solution was modified based on screening tests in cell culture, and further tested with an EVLP cell culture model, on apoptosis, GSH, HSP70, and IL-8 expression. Finally, a modified formula was tested on porcine EVLP. Physiological parameters of lung function, histology of lung tissue, and amino acid concentrations in EVLP perfusate were measured.
Steen solution reduced cell confluence, induced apoptosis, and inhibited cell migration, compared to regular cell culture media. Adding L-alanyl-L-glutamine to Steen solution improved cell migration and decreased apoptosis. It also reduced cold preservation and warm perfusion-induced apoptosis, enhanced GSH and HSP70 production, and inhibited IL-8 expression on an EVLP cell culture model. L-alanyl-L-glutamine modified Steen solution supported porcine lungs on EVLP with significantly improved lung function, well-preserved histological structure, and significantly higher levels of multiple amino acids in EVLP perfusate.
Adding L-alanyl-L-glutamine to perfusate may provide additional energy support, antioxidant, and cytoprotective effects to lung tissue. The pipeline developed herein, with cell culture, cell EVLP, and porcine EVLP models, can be used to further optimize perfusates to improve EVLP outcomes.

The growing skeleton undergoes well-described and predictable normal developmental changes, which may be misinterpreted a as pathologic condition at imaging. Primary and secondary ossification ...centers (SOCs), which form the diaphysis and the epiphysis of long bones, respectively, are formed by endochondral and intramembranous ossification processes. During skeletal maturation, the SOCs may appear irregular and fragmented, which should not be confused with fractures, osteochondritis dissecans, and osteochondrosis. These normal irregularities are generally symmetric with a smooth, round, and sclerotic appearance, which are aspects that help in the differentiation. The metaphysis, epiphysis, and growth plates or physes are common sites of injuries and normal variants in the pediatric skeleton. The metaphysis contains the newly formed bone from endochondral ossification and is highly vascularized. It is predisposed to easy spread of infections and bone tumors. The physis is the weakest structure of the immature skeleton. Injuries to this location may disrupt endochondral ossification and lead to growth disturbances. Pathologic conditions of the epiphyses may extend into the articular surface and lead to articular damage. At MRI, small and localized foci of bone marrow changes within the epiphysis and metaphysis are also a common finding. These can be related to residual red marrow (especially in the metaphysis of long bones and hindfoot), focal periphyseal edema (associated with the process of physeal closure), and ultimately to a normal ossification process. The authors review the imaging appearance of normal skeletal maturation and discuss common maturation disorders on the basis of developmental stage and location.

Background
There are limited therapeutic options directed at the underlying pathological processes in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Experimental therapeutic strategies have targeted the ...protective systems that become deranged in ARDS such as surfactant. Although results of surfactant replacement therapy (SRT) in ARDS have been mixed, questions remain incompletely answered regarding timing and dosing strategies of surfactant. Furthermore, there are only few truly clinically relevant ARDS models in the literature. The primary aim of our study was to create a clinically relevant, reproducible model of severe ARDS requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Secondly, we sought to use this model as a platform to evaluate a bronchoscopic intervention that involved saline lavage and SRT.
Methods
Yorkshire pigs were tracheostomized and cannulated for veno-venous ECMO support, then subsequently given lung injury using gastric juice via bronchoscopy. Animals were randomized post-injury to either receive bronchoscopic saline lavage combined with SRT and recruitment maneuvers (treatment,
n
= 5) or recruitment maneuvers alone (control,
n
= 5) during ECMO.

after aspiration injury was 62.6 ± 8 mmHg and 60.9 ± 9.6 mmHg in the control and treatment group, respectively (

= 0.95) satisfying criteria for severe ARDS. ECMO reversed the severe hypoxemia. After treatment with saline lavage and SRT during ECMO, lung physiologic and hemodynamic parameters were not significantly different between treatment and controls.
Conclusions
A clinically relevant severe ARDS pig model requiring ECMO was established. Bronchoscopic saline lavage and SRT during ECMO did not provide a significant physiologic benefit compared to controls.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects 1.3% of the Brazilian population. The most common clinical manifestations are erythematous, scaling lesions that affect both genders and can ...occur on any anatomical site, preferentially involving the knees, elbows, scalp and genitals. Besides the impact on the quality of life, the systemic nature of the disease makes psoriasis an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, especially in young patients with severe disease. By an initiative of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, dermatologists with renowned clinical experience in the management of psoriasis were invited to form a work group that, in a partnership with the Brazilian Medical Association, dedicated themselves to create the Plaque Psoriasis Diagnostic and Treatment Guidelines. The relevant issues for the diagnosis (evaluation of severity and comorbidities) and treatment of plaque psoriasis were defined. The issues generated a search strategy in the Medline-PubMed database up to July 2018. Subsequently, the answers to the questions of the recommendations were devised, and each reference selected presented the respective level of recommendation and strength of scientific evidence. The final recommendations for making up the final text were worded by the coordinators.
This study evaluated the effects of axial and oblique occlusal loading on implant-supported partial dentures with different connection systems (external hexagon, internal hexagon, and Morse taper). ...Upon axial loading, all systems presented similar stress values. Stress values increased under oblique loading. Stress distribution changed for some of the internal connection structures. It can be concluded that oblique load increases stress on bone structures and prosthetic components. Internal connection system implants present more favorable stress distribution patterns than do external connection system implants.
Objectives
To evaluate the accuracy of measurement of the pubofemoral distance (PFD) for the diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), using the Graf method as the reference standard.
...Methods
This was a prospective diagnostic accuracy study evaluating 1980 hips in at‐risk neonates. The PFD measurement and the Graf method were performed at the same opportunity, with the hips in the same position (slightly flexed, adducted, and medially rotated).
Results
In our sample, the prevalence of DDH, defined as Graf type IIb or higher, was 15.6%. The mean PFD for dysplastic hips was 3.5 mm (median, 3.3 mm), whereas it was 3.0 mm (median, 2.9 mm) for nondysplastic hips. In both groups, there was a significant overlap between the PFD measurements and the Graf classifications. The PFD cutoff with the largest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 3.0 mm, which was found to have a sensitivity and specificity of 63.6 and 62.2%, respectively, with positive and negative predictive values of 31.2 and 71.4%, respectively, for the diagnosis of DDH.
Conclusion
Measurement of the PFD shows good overall accuracy for the diagnosis of DDH. However, given its low‐positive predictive value, it should not be considered to be a replacement for the Graf method.
