Asymptomatic transmission was found to be the Achilles’ heel of the symptom-based screening strategy, necessitating the implementation of mass testing to efficiently contain the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic. However, the global shortage of molecular reagents and the low throughput of available realtime PCR facilities were major limiting factors.
A novel semi-nested and heptaplex (7-plex) RT-PCR assay with melting analysis for detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been established for either individual testing or 96-sample pooled testing. The complex melting spectrum collected from the heptaplex RT-PCR amplicons was interpreted with the support of an artificial intelligence algorithm for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The analytical and clinical performance of the semi-nested RT-PCR assay was evaluated using RNAs synthesized in-vitro and those isolated from nasopharyngeal samples.
The LOD of the assay for individual testing was estimated to be 7.2 copies/reaction. Clinical performance evaluation indicated a sensitivity of 100% (95% CI: 97.83–100) and a specificity of 99.87% (95% CI: 99.55–99.98). More importantly, the assay supports a breakthrough sample pooling method, which makes possible parallel screening of up to 96 samples in one real-time PCR well without loss of sensitivity. As a result, up to 8,820 individual pre-amplified samples could be screened for SARS-CoV-2 within each 96-well plate of realtime PCR using the pooled testing procedure.

For this report, we compared interfacial spectroscopic tools to monitor in situ Fenton reactions of organic dyes on ascorbic acid-reduced gold nanostars (AuNSs). Ultraviolet-visible ...(UV–vis) absorption and Raman spectroscopic tools were introduced to check the hydroxyl radical destruction of ethyl violet (EV), which contains a triarylmethane group. AuNSs with sharp edges, tips, and corners were used as efficient surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) substrates for in situ Fenton reaction monitoring. The SERRS intensity of the EV showed a first-order decay curve with a reaction rate constant value of 0.0263 min−1, while the decolorization yielded second-order kinetic behavior with a constant value of 0.00430 L/mol min. In addition to the destruction of the organic dyes, the increased number of ferric (III) ions, as a result of the Fenton reactions, was detected via 4-aminobenzo-15-crown-5 (4AB15C5) conjugated with 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4MBA). We found that the SERRS bands at ∼1500 cm−1 of 4AB15C5 on AuNSs increased after treatment with H2O2 and FeSO4. Real industrial textile wastewater samples were then tested to determine whether this Raman method could be applied to detect increases in ferric ions. Our spectroscopic data used SERRS peaks via Fenton reaction results to calculate an estimated ∼65% destruction of the organic dyes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made devastating impacts on public health and global economy. While most people experience mild symptoms, it is highly transmissible and deadly in at-risk populations. ...Telemedicine has the potential to prevent hospitalization and provide remote care.
This retrospective study included 336 people with COVID-19, among which 141 (42%) and 195 (58%) were in Delta and Omicron dominant groups, respectively. Patients were confirmed to have COVID-19 by PCR or rapid test and were cared for via telemedicine. Severe cases were hospitalized for more intensive treatment. RESULTS: The majority of individuals recovered at home (97.02%), while 2.98% required hospitalization. All hospital admissions were in Delta dominant group. No deaths were reported. Delta dominant group was more likely to develop loss of taste and smell, decreased appetite and need longer treatment time than those in Omicron dominant group.
Telemedicine is a safe measure to provide at-home care for people with COVID-19 infections caused by both Delta and Omicron variants.

This global minimum structure has the shape of a tetragonal bipyramid having two Sc atoms at two tops of pyramids binding with one edge of Ge‐Ge. The ground electronic state of the global minimum isomer is the 2 B 2 state in the C 2v symmetry. The most stable isomer of Sc 2 Ge 6 − has been used to study the CO adsorption. The calculated results indicate that the Sc 2 Ge 6 − cluster has a good interaction with the CO molecule. The adsorption positions are around the Sc atom with two stable models include adsorbing the C atom and adsorbing both the C and O atoms of the CO molecule. Scandium doped germanium cluster can be used to produce materials that can treat CO gas by adsorption method.

Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm đánh giá ảnh hưởng của độ mặn đến sinh trưởng và tỷ lệ sống của vọp trong điều kiện nuôi trong bể. Thí nghiệm gồm 4 nghiệm thức độ mặn và mỗi nghiệm thức được lặp lại 3 ...lần là: 1‰, 5‰, 10‰ và 15‰ thực hiện trên vọp thí nghiệm có chiều dài 23,08±1,38 mm và khối lượng 3,13±0,5 g. Sau 105 ngày nuôi, tỷ lệ sống của vọp ở các độ mặn 5, 10 và 15‰ đạt cao nhất (100%), thấp nhất ở độ mặn 1 ‰ (92,2%). Tăng trưởng của vọp đạt tốt nhất ở độ mặn 5‰ và 10‰, tăng trưởng khối lượng và chiều dài tại 2 nghiệm thức này tương ứng với SGRW từ 0,34 đến 0,37%/ngày, SGRL từ 0,11 đến 0,14%/ngày, khác biệt có ý nghĩa so với kết quả từ độ mặn 1 và 15‰ (p<0,05). Kết quả nghiên cứu này cung cấp thêm thông tin về ảnh hưởng của độ mặn đến sinh trưởng và tỷ lệ sống của vọp và có giá trị sử dụng cho các nghiên cứu về sinh học cũng như trong thực tế nuôi thương phẩm.
Background Under the pressure of Human Adenovirus (HAdV)-associated acute respiratory infection (ARI) outbreak in children in Northern Vietnam in the end of 2022, this study was initiated to identify ...the HAdV subtype(s) and examine the associated clinical features and risk factors of more severe cases. Methods This study evaluated pediatric patients with ARI which had tested positive for HAdV between October and November 2022 using a multiplex real-time PCR panel. Nasopharyngeal aspirates or nasal swab samples were used for sequencing to identify HAdV subtypes. Clinical data were collected retrospectively. Results Among 97 successfully sequenced samples, the predominant subtypes were HAdV-B3 (83%), HAdV-B7 (16%) and HAdV-C2 (1%). Lower respiratory manifestations were found in 25% of the patients of which 5% were diagnosed with severe pneumonia. There was no significant association between HAdV subtype and clinical features except higher white blood cell and neutrophil counts in those detected with HAdV-B3 (p<0.001). Co-detection of HAdV with greater than or equal to1 other respiratory viruses was found in 13/24(54%) of those with lower respiratory manifestations and 4/5(80%) of those with severe pneumonia (odds ratio (95% confidence interval) vs. those without = 10.74 (2.83, 48.17) and 19.44 (2.12, 492.73) respectively after adjusting for age, sex, birth delivery method, day of disease). Conclusion HAdV-B3 and HAdV-B7 were predominant in the outbreak. Co-detection of HAdV together with other respiratory viruses was a strong risk factor for lower respiratory tract illnesses and severe pneumonia. The findings advocate the advantages of multi-factor microbial panels for the diagnosis and prognosis of ARI in children.
This study aimed to determine latent profiles from the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire Short Form-6 (PIUQ-SF-6) score of Vietnamese youths and adolescents, which supports the diagnosis of ...problematic internet use among a large sample size. Moreover, it also explored factors that affect each latent profile of the PIUQ-SF-6 score among participants.
A sample of 1477 Vietnamese people, aged 14 to 24, across five provinces participated in the study. Multinomial logistic regression determined factors related to the levels of the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire Short Form-6 (PIUQ-SF-6) after using latent profile analysis.
Participants were divided into three profiles, including those at low, moderate, and high risk of internet addiction. The high-risk latent profile was obtained for 23.1% of adolescents, and the remaining percentages were, respectively, 40.2% and 36.7% of adolescents belonging to the moderate and low-risk groups. Moreover, factors including age, living alone, high Kessler psychological distress scale, excessive time on the internet, living in central cities, and high neighborhood disorder scores were found to be related to moderate- and high-risk internet addiction profiles.
Factors analyzed according to individual and social characteristics further explore the reasons underlying increasing internet addiction among Vietnamese youths and inform early interventions.

Plastic mismanagement and its subsequent pollution by rapid economic development and urbanisation pose significant challenges for modern world society. Notwithstanding one of the main sources for macro plastic leakage into the ocean from land, precise assessment of plastic pollution origins from Southeast Asia is yet to be clearly examined. In order to make informed decisions and prioritise areas of improvement it is required to better understand the waste leakage dynamics at the local level. In this work, the Waste Flow Diagram (WFD) was applied to understand the sources and fates of plastics leaking from the solid waste management system for the case of Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen, Vietnam. The study shows scenarios of leakage into the aquatic environment ranging from 0.8 to 2.7 kg/cap/year, which originates mainly from the collection system. Targeted improvements to this stage of the service could reduce leakages and the overall environmental impacts of mismanaged plastic waste. The results of this study show the necessity and importance of having up to date and reliable data to better inform stakeholders and service planning, facilitating efficient action against plastic pollution. As the first peer-reviewed scientific article critically applying the WFD, this work highlights the steps and challenges of the methodology and critically analyses different methodological pathways.
