•The networked SnO2 nanowire sensors can detect NO2 gas under UV-radiation at room temperature.•Pulsed UV-radiation significantly enhanced NO2 gas response of networked SnO2 nanowire ...sensors.•Enhanced response under UV-radiation attributed to photo-adsorption and -desorption gas molecules.
A unique combination of high response and fast response-recovery is still a challenge in the development of room-temperature gas sensors. Herein, we demonstrated the on-chip growth of nanojunction-networked SnO2 NW sensors to work under UV-radiation at room temperature. The morphological, compositional, and structural properties of synthesized SnO2 nanowires were examined using field emission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The results presented the SnO2 NWs with smooth surfaces were entangled between the Pt electrode. Besides, the internal properties showed the SnO2 NWs were crystallized as the tetragonal rutile structure of SnO2. The use of UV-radiation with the optimum intensity of 50 μW/cm2 increased the gas response to 5 ppm NO2 up to 7-fold, while response and recovery times decreased about 8- and 4-fold, respectively. Moreover, alternative use of pulsed UV-radiation (provided only during the air recovery phase) can enhance significant gas response as compared with continuous UV-radiation. The enhancement of gas response could be attributed to the photo-adsorption and -desorption of NO2 molecule due to the photogeneration of electron-hole pairs. The combination of NW-NW nanojunctions and pulsed UV-radiation is expected to be a novel strategy for high-performance room temperature gas sensors.
Three new sesquiterpenoids, 13-hydroxyl-atractylenolide II (1), 4-ketone-atractylenolide III (2), and eudesm-4(15)-ene-7β,11-diol (3), along with eleven known compounds (4–14), were isolated from the ...rhizomes of Atractylodes macrocephala. The structures and relative configurations of 1–3 were determined by analysis of the spectroscopic data, and the absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were assigned by circular dichroism technique. The anti-inflammatory activities of these isolates were evaluated against lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in macrophage RAW264.7 cells; compounds 4, 7, and 8 exhibited moderate efficacy with IC50 values of 48.6±0.5, 46.4±3.2, and 32.3±2.9 µM, respectively.
Purpose: Hepatic angiosarcoma is very rare malignancy and more common in men than in women. To date, only a few female cases of liver angiosarcoma have been reported. Here, we report a female case of ...liver angiosarcoma, first detected in Vietnam, with a high malignancy stage, rapid progression, and poor prognosis. Case Presentation: A 61-year-old woman was admitted to the Bach Mai Hospital with fatigue, anorexia, weight loss, and severe pain in the right upper quadrant for 2 weeks prior. Clinical examination detected a firm 4-cm hepatomegaly below the right costal margin and grade I splenomegaly. Abdominal ultrasonography and CT revealed diffuse lesions in the entire liver parenchyma, spreading to the spleen, while MRI showed signs of bone metastasis. Blood tests showed elevated transaminase enzymes, especially Gamma Glutamyl Transferase 501 U/L; thrombocytopenia; no anemia; and other tumor markers such as AFP, CEA, and CA19-9 were within normal limits. On CT images, the dots and nodules in the liver and spleen appeared hyperenhanced in the arterial phase and washout in the venous phase. The results of both histopathology and unmimohistochemistry showed liver angiosarcoma. Surgery and radiation were not indicated due to the suspicion of bone metastasis. Chemotherapy with doxorubicin at a dose of 60 mg/m2 and intravenous infusion once every 21 days was administered. Unfortunately, dining the first dose of chemotherapy with doxorubicin, side effects appeared. Since the disease developed continuously and uncontrollably, the patient was subsequently exhausted, anemic, presented peritoneal fluid, and eventually died of intra-abdominal bleeding. Conclusion: For the diagnosis of liver angiosarcoma, ultrasound-guided liver biopsy could be applied for safe and effective histopathology, and selective embolization of the hepatic artery is necessary to prevent bleeding complications. The disease has a very poor prognosis, and if chemotherapy does not respond, the patient can die within six months of diagnosis. Keywords: liver angiosarcoma, primary tumor, hepatectomy, case report
Background This study aimed to measure the preferences for mental health support among health professionals, their willingness to support the mental health of colleagues and associated factors. ...Method A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed from August to October 2022 within five hospitals located in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 244 health professionals participated in the study. Data on socio-economic status, health and COVID-19-related characteristics, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21); and preferences for mental health support services were collected by using a structured self-reported questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression models were utilized to identify associated factors with the demand for mental support services. Results 13.9%, 17.1% and 8.6% reported having at least mild depression, anxiety and stress, respectively. There 13.9% did not seek any mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The most common support included talking with friends (52.9%), family (50.8%), colleagues (47.6%) and using social networks/Internet (43.5%). There 31.1% had been aware of mental health services, but only 18.0% used this service at least once. Regarding preferences, 47.3% had a demand for mental support services, and the most preferred service was providing coping skills (25.9%), followed by skills to support others against mental problems (22.2%). Major sources of support included psychiatrists (34.4%), colleagues (29.1%) and family (27.9%). The main preferred channels for support included telephone/mobile phone (35.7%) and Internet (20.9%). Only 12.3% were willing to provide mental support for colleagues during the pandemic. Age, education, perceived mental health status, ever seeking any mental service, and DASS-21 depression score were associated with demand for mental support services. Conclusion This study found a lack of awareness of mental health services for health professionals, as well as moderate levels of demand for this service in this population. Raising awareness and developing tailored mental health support services are important to enhancing the mental well-being of health professionals in Vietnam to prepare for the next pandemic.

In this study, MCM-41 mesoporous silica nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by the condensation of a tetraorthosilicate precursor on a template self-assembled by cetyltrimethylammonium ...bromide in alkaline. The small-angle x-ray diffraction patterns of MCM-41 indicate that silica nanoparticles possess hexagonal structures with a high degree of structural ordering. Transmission electron microscopy images show that the size of the MCM-41 particles is around 100-120 nm, and the pore sizes range from 2 nm to 4 nm. In addition, the specific surface area of MCM-41 obtained by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis is as high as 987 m

and the pore size extracted from nitrogen physical adsorption isotherms is in accordance with the TEM result. Thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Zeta potential measurements and photoluminescence measurements show that 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and doxorubicin were grafted and loaded successfully onto MCM-41 nanoparticles. An assay on fibroblasts, A549 and doxorubicin-resistant A549/DOX cells indicates that the prepared MCM41 grafting APTES nanoparticles are safe to normal cells and toxic to cancer cells

The goal of this study was to compare the results of LPD with those of open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD).
Data were retrospectively collected from a database of patients who underwent PD from ...January 2010 to May 2020. Intraoperative, postoperative, and follow-up assessment studies were conducted.
A total of 149 patients were selected. Compared with OPD, LPD was fewer intraoperative blood transfusions (p = 0.015), a longer median operative time (p < 0.001), hospital stay (p = 0.034), a higher rate of bile leakage (p = 0.02), overall morbidity (p = 0.045), and re-operation (p = 0.044). There was no difference between the two groups in severe pancreatic fistula, postoperative bleeding, delayed gastric emptying, Clavien-Dindo classification ≥ III, or 30-day mortality. LPD had a similar number of excised lymph nodes, R0 resection rate, and long-term survival cases involving malignant tumors, ampulla of Vater cancer, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
In the early period, the benefit of LPD has not been found as there was a high rate of conversion to laparotomy, morbidity, and re-operation. Despite that, LPD is a feasible oncological approach with long-term survival comparable to OPD.
•Facile method has employed to prepare mesoporous Co3O4 nanochains with high specific surface area.•The Co3O4 nanochains has highly sensitive and selective toward H2S gas with rapid response.•Such a ...potential gas sensing strategy can be easily extended to other metal oxides.
In this paper, cobalt carbonate hydroxide (Co(CO3)0.5(OH)..11H2O) nanowires were successfully fabricated by a simple hydrothermal route without using surfactants and by subsequent heat treatment in air at 600 °C for 5 h to obtain mesoporous Co3O4 nanochains. As-synthesized nanochains with length of several micrometers consisted of well-linked Co3O4 nanoparticles with an average size of 50 nm. The sensor based on mesoporous Co3O4 nanochains was used to detect flammable and toxic gases, including H2S, NH3, CO, and H2. Results showed potential of mesoporous Co3O4 nanochains as sensor material for detection of hydrogen sulfides at low concentration with rapid response.
Coastal protection, shoreline stabilization and mangrove forest restoration are pressing issues in such coastal regions worldwide as the Mekong Delta. A hollow triangle breakwater TC1 was developed ...to protect the coastline against erosion. The TC1 breakwater consists of holes arranged on the waveward and leeward sides, allowing for wave energy dissipation, water exchange, and sediment deposition to facilitate mangrove restoration. To evaluate comprehensively the working principles of the TC1, we investigate herein the wave-structure interaction under regular waves by means of an advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) platform, i.e. FLOW-3D. The numerical model was calibrated against experimental results with great agreement across three different water depths where the breakwater was tested. We also analyzed the velocity dynamics in the waveward and leeward sides of the breakwater and it revealed a significant difference of approximately 50% following the change in water depths from 0.66 m to 0.96 m. Furthermore, we examined the wave forces on both solid and hollow forms of TC1 structures, the wave forces on a hollow form were found to decrease by 20–30% in comparison with the forces on a solid form. In addition, the effect of liquid characteristics, i.e., density, viscosity and temperature showed slightly impact on wave transmission coefficients through the breakwater by 0.4–0.7 %.
•Investigation of wave transmission coefficients of the hollow triangle breakwater (TC1) under variable wave conditions.•Investigating the hydrodynamics and changes in kinetic energy dissipation through TC1.•Quantification of the difference in wave forces on the hollow and solid forms of TC1.•Quantification of the impact of liquid characteristics on the wave transmission coefficients through TC1.
