The power conversion efficiency of perovskite polycrystalline thin film solar cells has rapidly increased in recent years, while the stability still lags behind due to its low thermal stability as ...well as the fast ion migration along the massive grain boundaries. Here, stable and efficient lateral-structure perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are achieved based on perovskite single crystals. By optimizing anode contact with a simple surface treatment, the open circuit voltage and fill factor dramatically increase and promote the efficiency of the devices exceeding 11% (0.05 to 1 Sun) compared to that of 5.9% (0.25 Sun) of the best lateral-structure single crystal PSCs previously reported. Devices show excellent operational stability and no degradation observed after 200 h continuous operation at maximum power point under 1 Sun illumination. Devices with scalable architectures are investigated by utilizing interdigital electrodes, which show huge potential to realize low cost and highly efficient perovskite photovoltaic devices.
The writing reforms of the Mongolian language in Inner Mongolia from 1954 to 1980 are a notable case of Maoist China’s language planning projects. In those years, the Chinese government attempted to ...implement two consecutive reforms featuring Cyrillization and Latinization of the Mongolian writing system, but neither reform yielded any substantial result and the traditional Mongolian script remains in use today. This article explores the domestic and international dynamics behind these two closely related reform attempts and examines their origins, rationales, processes of implementation, and reasons for failure. Although the rationales of both reforms lay in the communist doctrine favoring easier, more regular, and more universal writing systems that could improve literacy and facilitate communication, hidden behind both reforms were nationalist agendas. The Cyrillization reform sought linguistic unity with the Mongolian People’s Republic, while the Latinization reform sought unity of writing systems among languages in China. In both cases, the hidden nationalist agendas undermined the original goals of the reforms, and the reforms lost momentum once contending agendas prevailed.
Along with the intensification of culture systems to meet the increasing global demands, there was an elevated risk for diseases outbreak and substantial loss for farmers. In view of several ...drawbacks caused by prophylactic administration of antibiotics, strict regulations have been established to ban or minimize their application in aquaculture. As an alternative to antibiotics, dietary administration of feed additives has received increasing attention during the past three decades. Probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and medicinal plants were among the most promising feed supplements for control or treatments of bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases of fish and shellfish. The present review summarizes and discusses the topic of potential application of probiotics as a means of disease control with comprehensive look at the available literature. The possible mode of action of probiotics (Strengthening immune response, competition for binding sites, production of antibacterial substances, and competition for nutrients) in providing protection against diseases is described. Besides, we have classified different pathogens and separately described the effects of probiotics as protective strategy. Furthermore, we have addressed the gaps of existing knowledge as well as the topics that merit further investigations. Overall, the present review paper revealed potential of different probiont to be used as protective agent against various pathogens.

In this investigation, samples were treated by ultrasonic probe (20 kHz) at an intensity of 25 W cm−2 for 20 or 40 min, followed by aging at 4 °C for 1, 3 and 7 d. Ultrasound treatment significantly increased myofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI) and decreased Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) at 3 and 7 d of postmortem aging (P < .05). Ultrasound-treated samples showed significantly greater intensities of autolyzed 76 kDa subunits and the lower intensity of intact 80 kDa form compared to control at 1 d of storage (P < .05). Significant difference was found between semitendinosus (ST) samples treated for both 20 and 40 min (P < .05). Ultrasound treated samples showed increased proteolysis during the postmortem storage as reflected by an increased degradation of desmin and troponin-T. These results showed that ultrasound treatment could improve the tenderness of beef ST muscle through regulating the calpain activation and protein degradation during postmortem aging.
Abnormal endometrial blood flow causes a decrease in endometrial receptivity and is considered a relatively independent risk factor for recurrent implantation failure (RIF). This study aimed to ...explore the potentially functional circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network in RIF, and further explore its mechanism. Datasets were downloaded from the GEO database to identify differentially expressed circRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs. The circRNA-miRNA-mRNA and PPI networks were constructed using Cytoscape 3.6.0 and the STRING database, the hub genes were identified with the cytoHubba plug-in, and a circRNA-miRNA-hub mRNA regulatory sub-network was constructed. Then, GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses of the hub genes were performed to comprehensively analyze the mechanism of hub mRNAs in RIF. Due to the results of circRNAs-miRNAs-hub mRNAs regulatory network, we verified the expression of circRNA_0001721, circRNA_0000714, miR-17-5p, miR-29b-3p, HIF1A and VEGFA in the RIF mouse model by qRT-PCR and western blotting. We initially identified 175 DEmRNAs, 48 DEmiRNAs and 56 DEcircRNAs in RIF associated with angiogenesis and constructed a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network and PPI network. We further identified six hub genes in the acquired network. Based on these genes, functional enrichment analysis revealed that the HIF-1 signaling pathway plays a vital role in endometrial angiogenesis in RIF. In addition, the interaction networks of circRNA_0001721/miR-17-5p/HIF1A and the circRNA_0000714/miR-29b-3p/VEGFA axis were predicted. In the RIF mouse model, circRNA_0001721, circRNA_0000714, HIF1A and VEGFA were down-regulated, whereas miR-17-5p and miR-29b-3p were up-regulated according to qRT-PCR and western blotting. This study revealed that the HIF-1 signaling pathway plays a vital role in endometrial angiogenesis in RIF. The circRNA_0001721/miR-17-5p/HIF1A and circRNA_0000714/miR-29b-3p/VEGFA axes might play a role in the pathogenesis of endometrial angiogenesis in RIF.
China is the largest aquaculture producer in the world. Antibiotics were extensively used to ensure the development of the intensive aquaculture; however, the use of antibiotics causes safety- and ...environment-associated problems. As an alternative strategy to antibiotics, aquatic probiotics have attracted attention. The microbial organisms used as probiotics or tested as potential probiotics in Chinese aquaculture belong to various taxonomic divisions, including Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria and yeast. Moreover, the mixture of probiotic strains and synbiotics are also widely used. Studies on the mode of action of aquatic probiotics have extended our understanding of the probiotic effects, and novel mechanisms have been discovered, such as interference of quorum sensing. However, use of probiotics in Chinese aquaculture is still at an initial stage, and there are potential risks for some probiotic applications in aquaculture. Further regulation and management are required to normalize the production and usage of aquatic probiotics. In this review, we discuss species, effects, and mode of actions of probiotics in Chinese aquaculture since 2008. Challenges and future directions for research are also discussed.
Most existing feature learning-based methods for RGB-D object recognition either combine RGB and depth data in an undifferentiated manner from the outset, or learn features from color and depth ...separately, which do not adequately exploit different characteristics of the two modalities or utilize the shared relationship between the modalities. In this paper, we propose a general CNN-based multi-modal learning framework for RGB-D object recognition. We first construct deep CNN layers for color and depth separately, which are then connected with a carefully designed multi-modal layer. This layer is designed to not only discover the most discriminative features for each modality, but is also able to harness the complementary relationship between the two modalities. The results of the multi-modal layer are back-propagated to update parameters of the CNN layers, and the multi-modal feature learning and the back-propagation are iteratively performed until convergence. Experimental results on two widely used RGB-D object datasets show that our method for general multi-modal learning achieves comparable performance to state-of-the-art methods specifically designed for RGB-D data.
The capability of carbohydrate utilization in fish is limited compared to mammals. It has scientific and practical significance to improve the ability of fish to use carbohydrates. The efficiency of ...dietary carbohydrate utilization varies among fish with different feeding habits, which are associated with differential intestinal microbiota. In this study, we found that zebrafish fed with omnivorous diet (OD) and herbivorous diet (HD) showed better glucose homeostasis compared with carnivorous diet (CD) fed counterpart and the differential glucose utilization efficiency was attributable to the intestinal microbiota. The commensal bacterium Cetobacterium somerae, an acetate producer, was enriched in OD and HD groups, and administration of C. somerae in both adult zebrafish and gnotobiotic larval zebrafish models resulted in improved glucose homeostasis and increased insulin expression, supporting a causative role of C. somerae enrichment in glucose homeostasis in fish. The enrichment of C. somerae was constantly associated with higher acetate levels, and dietary supplementation of acetate promotes glucose utilization in zebrafish, suggesting a contribution of acetate in the function of C. somerae. Furthermore, we found that the beneficial effect of both acetate and C. somerae on glucose homeostasis was mediated through parasympathetic activation. Overall, this work highlights the existence of a C. somerae-brain axis in the regulation of glucose homeostasis in fish and suggests a role of acetate in mediating the axis function. Our results suggest potential strategies for improvement of fish carbohydrate utilization.

Herein, the glucose sensor/receptor repressor (SRR) pathway of Kluyveromyces marxianus which mainly consisted of KmSnf3, KmGrr1, KmMth1, and KmRgt1 was studied. The disruption of KmSNF3 led to a release of glucose repression, enhanced xylose consumption and did not result in deficient glucose utilization. Over-expression of glucose transporter gene restored the mild decrease of glucose utilization ability of Kmsnf3 strain to a similar level of the wildtype strain but did not restore glucose repression. Therefore, the repression on glucose transporter is parallel to glucose repression to xylose and other alternative carbon utilization. KmGRR1 disruption also released glucose repression and kept glucose utilization ability, although its xylose utilization ability was very weak with xylose as sole carbon source. The stable mutant of KmMth1-ΔT enabled the release of glucose repression irrespective that the genetic background was Kmsnf3, Kmmth1, or wildtype. Disruption of KmSNF1 in the Kmsnf3 strain or KmMTH1-ΔT overexpression in Kmsnf1 strain kept constitutive glucose repression, indicating that KmSNF1 was necessary to release the glucose repression in both SRR and Mig1-Hxk2 pathway. Finally, overexpression of KmMTH1-ΔT released the glucose repression to xylose utilization in S. cerevisiae.
The glucose repression-released K. marxianus strains constructed via a modified glucose SRR pathway did not lead to a deficiency in the utilization ability of sugar. The obtained thermotolerant, glucose repression-released, and xylose utilization-enhanced strains are good platforms for the construction of efficient lignocellulosic biomass utilization yeast strains.
