Magnon-polaritons are hybrid light-matter quasiparticles originating from the strong coupling between magnons and photons. They have emerged as a potential candidate for implementing quantum ...transducers and memories. Owing to the dampings of both photons and magnons, the polaritons have limited lifetimes. However, stationary magnon-polariton states can be reached by a dynamical balance between pumping and losses, so the intrinsically nonequilibrium system may be described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Here we design a tunable cavity quantum electrodynamics system with a small ferromagnetic sphere in a microwave cavity and engineer the dissipations of photons and magnons to create cavity magnon-polaritons which have non-Hermitian spectral degeneracies. By tuning the magnon-photon coupling strength, we observe the polaritonic coherent perfect absorption and demonstrate the phase transition at the exceptional point. Our experiment offers a novel macroscopic quantum platform to explore the non-Hermitian physics of the cavity magnon-polaritons.
We reveal the cooperative effect of coherent and dissipative magnon-photon couplings in an open cavity magnonic system, which leads to nonreciprocity with a considerably large isolation ratio and ...flexible controllability. Furthermore, we discover unidirectional invisibility for microwave propagation, which appears at the zero-damping condition for hybrid magnon-photon modes. A simple model is developed to capture the generic physics of the interference between coherent and dissipative couplings, which accurately reproduces the observations over a broad range of parameters. This general scheme could inspire methods to achieve nonreciprocity in other systems.
By engineering an anti-parity-time (anti-PT ) symmetric cavity magnonics system with precise eigenspace controllability, we observe two different singularities in the same system. One type of ...singularity, the exceptional point (EP), is produced by tuning the magnon damping. Between two EPs, the maximal coherent superposition of photon and magnon states is robustly sustained by the preserved anti-PT symmetry. The other type of singularity, arising from the dissipative coupling of two antiresonances, is an unconventional bound state in the continuum (BIC). At the settings of BICs, the coupled system exhibits infinite discontinuities in the group delay. We find that both singularities coexist at the equator of the Bloch sphere, which reveals a unique hybrid state that simultaneously exhibits the maximal coherent superposition and slow light capability.
Multistability is an extraordinary nonlinear property of dynamical systems and can be explored to implement memory and switches. Here we experimentally realize the tristability in a three-mode cavity ...magnonic system with Kerr nonlinearity. The three stable states in the tristable region correspond to the stable solutions of the frequency shift of the cavity magnon polariton under specific driving conditions. We find that the system staying in which stable state depends on the history experienced by the system, and this state can be harnessed to store the history information. In our experiment, the memory time can reach as long as 5.11 s. Moreover, we demonstrate the ternary logic gate with good on-off characteristics using this multistable hybrid system. Our new findings pave a way towards cavity magnonics-based information storage and processing.
This brief proposes an enhanced fractional derivative that can prevent the tap weight coefficients from destroying the gradient information, solve the problem caused by the fractional extreme point, ...and improve the convergence speed with the help of error estimation information and Sign function. Based on this fractional derivative, an enhanced fractional least mean square (EFLMS) filter algorithm is proposed. We analyze the influence of unknown system vector on the convergence performance of the EFLMS algorithm. The computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is also analyzed. Simulation experiments show that the EFLMS algorithm achieves better performance in system identification than the classic least mean square (LMS) algorithm and the existing algorithms based on fractional calculus.
This paper discusses a novel conceptual formulation of the fractional-order variational framework for retinex, which is a fractional-order partial differential equation (FPDE) formulation of retinex ...for the multi-scale nonlocal contrast enhancement with texture preserving. The well-known shortcomings of traditional integer-order computation-based contrast-enhancement algorithms, such as ringing artefacts and staircase effects, are still in great need of special research attention. Fractional calculus has potentially received prominence in applications in the domain of signal processing and image processing mainly because of its strengths like long-term memory, nonlocality, and weak singularity, and because of the ability of a fractional differential to enhance the complex textural details of an image in a nonlinear manner. Therefore, in an attempt to address the aforementioned problems associated with traditional integer-order computation-based contrast-enhancement algorithms, we have studied here, as an interesting theoretical problem, whether it will be possible to hybridize the capabilities of preserving the edges and the textural details of fractional calculus with texture image multi-scale nonlocal contrast enhancement. Motivated by this need, in this paper, we introduce a novel conceptual formulation of the fractional-order variational framework for retinex. First, we implement the FPDE by means of the fractional-order steepest descent method. Second, we discuss the implementation of the restrictive fractional-order optimization algorithm and the fractional-order Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy condition. Third, we perform experiments to analyze the capability of the FPDE to preserve edges and textural details, while enhancing the contrast. The capability of the FPDE to preserve edges and textural details is a fundamental important advantage, which makes our proposed algorithm superior to the traditional integer-order computation-based contrast enhancement algorithms, especially for images rich in textural details.
We report the first observation of the magnon-polariton bistability in a cavity magnonics system consisting of cavity photons strongly interacting with the magnons in a small yttrium iron garnet ...(YIG) sphere. The bistable behaviors emerged as sharp frequency switchings of the cavity magnon polaritons (CMPs) and related to the transition between states with large and small numbers of polaritons. In our experiment, we align, respectively, the 100 and 110 crystallographic axes of the YIG sphere parallel to the static magnetic field and find very different bistable behaviors (e.g., clockwise and counter-clockwise hysteresis loops) in these two cases. The experimental results are well fitted and explained as being due to the Kerr nonlinearity with either a positive or negative coefficient. Moreover, when the magnetic field is tuned away from the anticrossing point of CMPs, we observe simultaneous bistability of both magnons and cavity photons by applying a drive field on the lower branch.
