A transparent garnet-type lithium-ion conducting solid electrolyte of 1.0wt% Al2O3-doped Li7La3Zr2O12 (A-LLZ) was prepared using hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The A-LLZ pellet sintered at 1180°C for ...36h was followed by HIP treatment at 127MPa and 1180°C under an Ar atmosphere. The bulk conductivity of the HIP treated A-LLZ was 9.9×10−4Scm−1 at 25°C. The Li/HIP treated A-LLZ/Li cell showed no short-circuit due to lithium dendrite formation at 0.5mAcm−2.

Volatiles in the headspace of beef cooked at 180°C were analyzed using solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), and the effects of aging were evaluated. ...Seventy volatile substances including non-aromatic, homocyclic, and heterocyclic compounds were identified. A significant positive regression model for storage could be adopted for toluene, benzeneacetaldehyde, 2-formylfuran, pyrazine, 2,6-dimethylpyrazine, 2,3-dimethylpyrazine, 2-acetylthiazole, and 2-formyl-3-methylthiophene. Increases in the quantity of these compounds, with the exception of toluene, suggest the importance of the Strecker and Maillard reactions in cooked meat previously aged under vacuum conditions. As such, the aging process may lead to an increase not only in the amount of compounds related to the taste of meat, but also in the quantity of odor-active compounds. The increased quantity of toluene during storage seemed to be influenced by lipid oxidation.

We present our analysis on the high energy scattering processes in the framework of the holographic QCD, assuming that the Pomeron exchange gives a dominant contribution to the cross sections. ...Focusing on the two-body scattering, we employ the Brower–Polchinski–Strassler–Tan Pomeron exchange kernel to describe the strong gluonic interaction, and utilize the bottom-up AdS/QCD models to obtain the density distributions of the involved hadrons in the five-dimensional AdS space, to calculate the total cross sections. Considering the unpolarized deep inelastic scattering at small Bjorken
and the high energy hadron-hadron scattering, we show that our calculations are consistent with the presently available experimental data. Our predictions made via this framework can be tested at various experimental facilities in the future.

Chloride induced deterioration of concrete structures is well underway when the damage is visually detected during inspection. If such damage was identified using a non-destructive method, inspection costs would reduce significantly. We tested the use of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for non-destructive multicomponent analysis of cement pastes. Cement paste samples with varying chloride-ion concentrations and humidity were prepared for different cement types. Reflectance spectra were obtained, then total moisture content (v/v) and chloride ion concentrations were measured using destructive testing as a reference. A correlation was observed between the measured water amount/chloride ion concentration and respective NIR absorption values.
The roles of RNA 5-methylcytosine (RNA:m
C) and RNA:m
C methyltransferases (RCMTs) in lineage-associated chromatin organization and drug response/resistance are unclear. Here we demonstrate that the ...RCMTs, namely NSUN3 and DNMT2, directly bind hnRNPK, a conserved RNA-binding protein. hnRNPK interacts with the lineage-determining transcription factors (TFs), GATA1 and SPI1/PU.1, and with CDK9/P-TEFb to recruit RNA-polymerase-II at nascent RNA, leading to formation of 5-Azacitidine (5-AZA)-sensitive chromatin structure. In contrast, NSUN1 binds BRD4 and RNA-polymerase-II to form an active chromatin structure that is insensitive to 5-AZA, but hypersensitive to the BRD4 inhibitor JQ1 and to the downregulation of NSUN1 by siRNAs. Both 5-AZA-resistant leukaemia cell lines and clinically 5-AZA-resistant myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukaemia specimens have a significant increase in RNA:m
C and NSUN1-/BRD4-associated active chromatin. This study reveals novel RNA:m
C/RCMT-mediated chromatin structures that modulate 5-AZA response/resistance in leukaemia cells, and hence provides a new insight into treatment of leukaemia.
Aerosol and splatter produced during dental treatments (ultrasonic scaling and professional mechanical tooth cleaning) are potential sources of infection. Contamination patterns on the mask, goggles, ...chest and gowned right arm of operators, and on the goggles of patients before and after dental treatments were investigated using ATP bioluminescence analysis. Contamination on every surface tested increased significantly after dental treatment. Maximum contamination was found on the goggles of patients. Aerosol and splatter produced during dental treatments therefore have the potential to spread infection to operators and patients. ATP bioluminescence is a useful tool for monitoring surface contamination.
