This dissertation presents thirty-two poems and an introduction to the collection. In After My Third Tattoo, the poems' speaker explores methods with which she perceives and constructs reality. Her ...exploration is the dramatic situation of each poem and the plot of the collection. The poems' speaker regards physical objects, recalls experiences, and discovers how these objects and experiences hold psychological significance for her. With the intellectual and emotional associations she makes among objects and experiences, the speaker constructs, repeats and varies image patterns. Through her associations, she perceives overlaps in: the rational and emotional, the earthly and divine, the order imposed on her by society and the order that she builds through her own agency, and her perception and the perceptions of others. Finding agency through meditation and language liberates the speaker from identity-making terms that the lesbian speaker rejects. Index words. Chromosomal nonhistone high-mobility-group (HMG) proteins were purified from nuclei of maize (Zea mays L. cv. A619) endosperm and leaf tissue. Tissue-specific differences were observed in their ...polypeptide patterns, in in-vitro phosphorylation experiments with a casein-kinase type II, and by Western blot analysis with antisera against different HMG proteins. Gelfiltration chromatography demonstrated that maize HMG proteins occur as monomers. By measuring the capacity of the HMG proteins to bind to the 5′ flanking region of a zein gene, the sensitivity of the proteins to different temperatures, salt concentrations and pH values was determined.
The presence of repetitive patterns in the domain of stereo vision results in multiple matching hypotheses. Choosing the wrong hypothesis leads to an incorrect determination of objects and ...calculation of their distances. Especially in vision-based driver assistance and safety systems a high accuracy in matching and distance calculation is vital. One approach to increase the robustness of matching is to add a third camera to the system. Another idea is to resolve the ambiguities over time. In this paper we present a different solution without additional hardware expense: The shiny varnished hood of the car provides a mirror which is in a fixed position relative to the cameras. This mirror displays additional views of the scene, providing the required information. The cameras and the respective camera-mirror systems need to be calibrated. The epipolar geometry and the disparity-distance function of the free-form surface mirror must be determined. After establishing this we can obtain the correct matching hypothesis.

The detectors of the CBM experiment, under construction at GSI, Germany, will generate an enormous data flow of 1TB/s, which is provided via approximately 6000 optical links to the DAQ system. For ...proper analysis, so called events have to be composed of data packets originating from different geometrical regions and with temporal coincidence, at a resolution of 1 nS. Routing and aggregating of packets is performed in a complex custom interconnect structure, where an active buffer is the interface to the commodity DAQ farm. We present the prototype of an active buffer board (ABB) in PCIe format. On each ABB, data from 2 optical links (each 2.5 or 5 Gbit/s) are received by an FPGA and, the packets being sorted according to spatial and temporal information and stored into a local buffer. To enable simultaneous readout towards the host, an efficient dual-port memory emulation was implemented, which is non trivial due to the small packet sizes and the high bandwidth requirements. Our advanced memory arbitration mechanism matches full incoming bandwidth and a concurrent DMA towards PCIe of 600 MB/s for a 4-lane PCIe interface, using an ordinary DDR2 memory module. In parallel to the data path the ABB implements a control flow interface, where requests can be sent from the host towards the detectors and in turn response messages are being received. The corresponding I/O mechanisms are implemented via DMA or PIO. At the software level, the DMA channels are controlled by a customized Linux device driver. Initial integration of the prototype ABB into the GSI software framework has been performed.
Rootstocks can affect plant growth, productivity, physical and chemical characteristics and therefore, wine composition. The objective of this study was to evaluate the productivity and the quality ...of 'Cabernet Sauvignon' grapevine grafted on Paulsen 1103 (V. berlandieri × V. rupestris), Couderc 3309 and 101-14 Mgt (V. riparia × V. rupestris). The experiment was conducted in a vineyard located at the city of Painel (28°01’02”S and 50°08'57"W, altitude 1200 m), in Santa Catarina State, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with four blocks and 20 plants per plot. The plants were five years old and conducted in vertical shooting positioning trellis, the experiment was evaluated at the seasons 2008 and 2009. The variables analysed were productivity (kg plant-1 and ton ha-1), cluster weight (g), 50 berries weight (g), berry diameter (mm), cluster length (cm), number of berries per cluster, leaf area (m2), pruning weight removed (kg), Ravaz Index, anthocyanins (mg L-1), total polyphenols, tannins, pH, total soluble solids and acidity (meq L-1). Data were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey's test (5% probability). In both seasons, the lowest yields were observed in the rootstock 1130 P and the highest cluster weight in 3309 C. In high altitudes regions of southern Brazil rootstocks of low to intermediate vigor, like Couderc 3309 and 101-14 Mgt, provide better balance between vine reproductive and vegetative activity and influence positively on vine yield and grape quality for production of 'Cabernet Sauvignon' red wines.
Ca(++) potentiates the inactivation of human complement by streptokinase-activated plasmin and chloroform-activated bovine plasmin. The optimum concentration of Ca(++) varies between 10(-2)M and ...10(-3)M, decreasing with increasing concentrations of streptokinase. The susceptibility of the components of complement to inactivation by plasmin is different in the presence and absence of Ca(++). C'2 and C'4 are most readily inactivated by plasmin in the presence of Ca(++), while C'1 disappears first in the absence of Ca(++). A large part of this C'1 disappearance is due to spontaneous inactivation. Similarities are pointed out between the influence of Ca(++) on the inactivation of the components of complement by antigen-antibody systems and by plasmin.
