We present improved germanium-based constraints on sub-GeV dark matter via dark matter-electron (χ-e) scattering using the 205.4 kg·day dataset from the CDEX-10 experiment. Using a novel calculation ...technique, we attain predicted χ-e scattering spectra observable in high-purity germanium detectors. In the heavy mediator scenario, our results achieve 3 orders of magnitude of improvement for m_{χ} larger than 80 MeV/c^{2} compared to previous germanium-based χ-e results. We also present the most stringent χ-e cross-section limit to date among experiments using solid-state detectors for m_{χ} larger than 90 MeV/c^{2} with heavy mediators and m_{χ} larger than 100 MeV/c^{2} with electric dipole coupling. The result proves the feasibility and demonstrates the vast potential of a new χ-e detection method with high-purity germanium detectors in ultralow radioactive background.
Background
Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway that is essential for cell survival, differentiation, and homeostasis. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of autophagy to the ...pathogenesis of CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP).
Methods
The expression of autophagic proteins microtubule‐associated protein 1 light chain 3B (LC3B)‐II, autophagy‐related proteins (Atg), and Beclin 1, substrate proteins (p62 and ubiquitinated proteins), and apoptotic signaling molecules cysteine‐aspartic protease‐3 and cysteine‐aspartic protease‐8, and poly‐ADP‐ribose polymerase in the sinonasal mucosa and nasal epithelial cells (NECs) was detected by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Autophagic vacuoles were observed with transmission electron microscopy. BEAS‐2B cells and NECs were treated with rapamycin, bafilomycin A1, or various cytokines. In some experiments, cultured NECs were transfected with small interfering RNA targeting p62 (sip62) or Atg5 (siAtg5). Cultured cells were analyzed with Western blotting and flow cytometry.
Results
Although autophagic protein expression and autophagic vacuole formation were increased in both eosinophilic and noneosinophilic CRSwNP, particularly in NECs, there was also an up‐regulation of substrate proteins and apoptotic signaling molecules. IFN‐γ, but not IL‐4, IL‐13, or IL‐17A, simultaneously enhanced LC3B‐II and p62 levels as well as cell apoptosis in BEAS‐2B cells and/or normal NECs. Bafilomycin A1 up‐regulated the levels of LC3B‐II and p62 in polyp NECs and IFN‐γ‐treated normal NECs. IFN‐γ‐induced apoptosis of normal NECs was exaggerated by bafilomycin A1 and siAtg5. Sip62 suppressed apoptosis of polyp NECs and IFN‐γ‐treated NECs. IFN‐γ protein levels were increased in both eosinophilic and noneosinophilic CRSwNP.
Conclusions
IFN‐γ induces activated but insufficient autophagy and thus contributes to a degree to p62‐dependent apoptosis of NECs in CRSwNP.
Here, in an analysis of a 2.92 fb–1 data sample taken at 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute decay branching fractions to be B(D0 → K–e+νe) = ...(3.505 ± 0.014 ± 0.033)% and B(D0 → π–e+νe) = (0.295 ± 0.004 ± 0.003)%. From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element $f$ $^{K}_{+}$(0)|Vcs| = 0.7172 ± 0.0025 ± 0.0035 and $f$ $^{π}_{+}$(0)|Vcd| = 0.1435 ± 0.0018 ± 0.0009.
The Daya Bay experiment has observed correlations between reactor core fuel evolution and changes in the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum. Four antineutrino detectors in two experimental ...halls were used to identify 2.2 million inverse beta decays (IBDs) over 1230 days spanning multiple fuel cycles for each of six 2.9 GW_{th} reactor cores at the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants. Using detector data spanning effective ^{239}Pu fission fractions F_{239} from 0.25 to 0.35, Daya Bay measures an average IBD yield σover ¯_{f} of (5.90±0.13)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission and a fuel-dependent variation in the IBD yield, dσ_{f}/dF_{239}, of (-1.86±0.18)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission. This observation rejects the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino flux as a function of the ^{239}Pu fission fraction at 10 standard deviations. The variation in IBD yield is found to be energy dependent, rejecting the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino energy spectrum at 5.1 standard deviations. While measurements of the evolution in the IBD spectrum show general agreement with predictions from recent reactor models, the measured evolution in total IBD yield disagrees with recent predictions at 3.1σ. This discrepancy indicates that an overall deficit in the measured flux with respect to predictions does not result from equal fractional deficits from the primary fission isotopes ^{235}U, ^{239}Pu, ^{238}U, and ^{241}Pu. Based on measured IBD yield variations, yields of (6.17±0.17) and (4.27±0.26)×10^{-43} cm^{2}/fission have been determined for the two dominant fission parent isotopes ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu. A 7.8% discrepancy between the observed and predicted ^{235}U yields suggests that this isotope may be the primary contributor to the reactor antineutrino anomaly.
Carbon nanotubes reinforced pure Al (CNT/Al) composites were produced by ball-milling and powder metallurgy. Microstructure and its evolution of the mixture powders and the fabricated composites were ...examined and the mechanical properties of the composites were tested. It was indicated that the CNTs were gradually dispersed into the Al matrix as ball-milling time increased and achieved a uniform dispersion after 6h ball-milling. Further increasing the ball-milling time to 8–12h resulted in serious damage to the CNTs. The tensile tests showed that as the ball-milling time increased, the tensile and yield strengths of the composites increased, while the elongation increased first and then decreased. The strengthening of CNTs increased significantly as the ball-milling time increased to 6h, and then decreased when further increasing the ball-milling time. The yield strength of the composite with 6h ball-milling increased by 42.3% compared with the matrix.
ABSTRACT
In this paper, we investigate the impact of correlated noise on fast radio burst (FRB) searching. We found that (1) the correlated noise significantly increases the false alarm probability; ...(2) the signal-to-noise ratios (S/N) of the false positives become higher; (3) the correlated noise also affects the pulse width distribution of false positives, and there will be more false positives with wider pulse width. We use 55-h observation for M82 galaxy carried out at Nanshan 26m radio telescope to demonstrate the application of the correlated noise modelling. The number of candidates and parameter distribution of the false positives can be reproduced with the modelling of correlated noise. We will also discuss a low S/N candidate detected in the observation, for which we demonstrate the method to evaluate the false alarm probability in the presence of correlated noise. Possible origins of the candidate are discussed, where two possible pictures, an M82-harboured giant pulse and a cosmological FRB, are both compatible with the observation.
All-organic nanocomposites using conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nano-clips as fillers and poly(vinylidene fluoride-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (PVDF-CTFE) as the matrix are studied. The nanocomposites ...with a uniform microstructure were fabricated via a combination of a solution casting and a hot pressing process. Due to the uniform microstructure, the composites exhibit a single glass transition process, whose temperature decreases with increasing PPy content. The dielectric properties of the nanocomposites are systemically studied and analyzed over a wide temperature range from −60 °C to 140 °C and a broad frequency range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz. The nanocomposites have a low percolation threshold (∼7.4 wt%) and exhibit a high dielectric constant and a low dielectric loss. For the composites with 7 wt% of PPy at room temperature, the dielectric constant at 1 kHz is 23 times higher than that of the polymer matrix and the dielectric loss over a broad frequency range is less than 0.4 which is lower than the loss reported in other composites with the composition close to the percolation threshold. It is concluded that mixing PPy with P(VDF-CTFE) results in a new relaxation process that dominates the observed dielectric loss at low temperatures including room temperature. It is demonstrated that it is the DC conductivity rather than the dielectric constant that should be used to determine the percolation threshold.
