The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of the different sintering protocols and dipping times on the CIELab color parameters, color difference (ΔE00), translucency parameter (TP00), opalescence parameter (OP), and contrast ratio (CR) of monolithic zirconia.
One hundred and fifty monolithic zirconia specimens were prepared and divided into 5 groups according to different dipping times in A2 shade coloring liquid: no immersion (D0), 3 minutes (D3), 5 minutes (D5), 7 minutes (D7), and 9 minutes (D9). The specimens were further divided into 3 subgroups according to different sintering protocols (n=10): classic (C); speed (S); and super-speed sintering (SS). The CIE L∗a∗b∗ values, ΔE00, TP00, OP, and CR values were determined with a spectrophotometer. The data were analyzed with 2-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests (α=.05).
The effects of the sintering protocol, dipping time, and interaction of the sintering protocol and dipping time were significant for the L∗, a∗, b∗, ΔE00, TP00, OP, and CR parameters (P<.001). The ΔE00 values of the SS groups were significantly higher than those of the C and S groups for all the dipping times assessed. However, only the CD3 and CD5 groups had ΔE00 values below the acceptability threshold (<1.8). Coloring significantly reduced TP00 values and significantly increased OP and CR values in the colored groups compared with those in the D0 groups. The C and S protocols for different dipping times showed similar optical properties in TP00, OP, CR, and ΔE00 (excluding the D0 and D9 groups) compared with the SS protocol.
Different sintering protocols combined with various dipping times significantly affected the optical properties of monolithic zirconia. However, C and S sintering with a 3-minute and 5-minute coloring process yielded more favorable optical results than SS sintering and prolonged dipping times.
Purpose
To compare the effects of fabricating methods of custom monoblock mandibular advancement devices (MADs) on usability and efficacy in patients with mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnea ...(OSA).
Materials and Methods
Digitally fabricated custom MADs (dMADs) were produced for 11 OSA participants who had previously used conventionally fabricated custom MADs (cMADs). The participants answered a modified usability questionnaire for both MADs, and the average scores that were given to the questionnaire were evaluated by age, sex, and body mass index (BMI), and the scores of cMADs and dMADs were compared. After 6 months of usage of each MAD, the apnea‐hypopnea index (AHI), mean and lowest oxygen saturations, and total sleep time were measured for efficacy assessment. Data were analyzed with Cronbach's alpha, Mann‐Whitney U, Kruskal‐Wallis, Wilcoxon signed‐rank, one‐way repeated measures analyses of variance, and Bonferroni tests (α = 0.05).
Results
Cronbach's alpha was found at 0.834 and 0.722 for the conventional and digital questionnaires, respectively. The usability scores of the dMADs were significantly higher than those of cMADs (p = 0.013). There was no difference in usability scores in terms of sex or BMI (p > 0.05). No statistically significant difference was found for cMAD (p = 0.113) among age groups; however, there was a significant difference for dMAD (p = 0.046). The AHI, mean, and lowest oxygen saturation values were significantly affected by MAD usage (p < 0.001). However, total sleep time values did not differ after the MAD treatments (p > 0.05). Significantly lower AHI and significantly higher lowest oxygen saturation values were observed with dMAD, while both appliances led to similar results for mean oxygen saturation and total sleep time values (p > 0.05).
Conclusions
Participant usability scores were higher for digitally manufactured MADs than conventionally manufactured MADs. However, both conventional and digital MADs were found effective in decreasing the AHI levels and increasing the mean and lowest oxygen saturation values of the participants.
Ladik Lake (Samsun, Turkey) is a natural landscape under the threat of pollution because of urban, agricultural and industrial activities. In this study, accumulation of heavy metals (Al, Ba, Cr, Cu, ...Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn) in the tissues (muscle, liver and gill) of sediment dwelling pike fish and in different substrates of Ladik Lake were investigated. Seasonal haematological, biochemical and histopathological parameters of the carp are also reported. In general, heavy-metal levels in water and sediment samples were found in the highest level in summer and the lowest in autumn. Histopathologic changes in the tissues of the fish (liver and gill) were at the minimum in winter while it was highest in summer. Blood biochemical parameters exhibited higher level in summer in comparison with other seasons. Al, Ba, Cr, Mn and Zn levels in the tissues of the fish were in the order gill>liver>muscle in all seasons. The levels of Cu, Fe and Pb were in the sequence liver>gill>muscle. Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn levels were determined to be in high level in the tissues of the fish with respect to the literature values. The heavy-metal levels in Ladik Lake and the fish health need to be regularly monitored for a sustainable environmental health.

ABSTRACT: The Ottomans had established their management systems accoirding to the time and needs by forming the provincial administrative structure around the central goverment. The source of legitimacy of absolute administration was the Imperial Council. The Ottomans had formed their property structures as provinces, sanjaks, towns and villages in a strong and dependent way. The existence of the central government on the management system, which was knitted with a permanent bond like the links of the chain, was always active and dynamic. The central government, its power to the farthest corner of the country; had provided with a dynamic and strong management network. Had used the inspection effectively to bring the administrative mechanism into force. The Ottomans had inspected the provinces in different methods. Among them, cadastral registers were the first ones. In the sixteenth century, most of the complaints of the people/subjects to the Imperial Council was decisive that the cadastral records were not made in accordance with the law and the book. In the inspection of the provinces, the complaints of the people about various issues and the submissions of the previous administrators to the council about the abuses of the provincial administrators were decisive. Thus, the central government tried to control the provincial administration with multiple control and inspection mechanisms. This study is based on the complaints that were reflected in the Mühimme registers during the inspection of the provincial administration in the Ottoman Empire in the sixteenth century. Mühimme records are therefore used as the main source.
The relationships between otolith size and body length of North African catfish
(Burchell, 1822), collected from Sakaryabaşı (the main spring area of the Sakarya River) between July 2014 and November ...2014, were examined. Length-weight relationship was also calculated for overall specimens. The wild fish were captured by electrofishing using SAMUS 725MP. A total of 132 individuals ranging from 13.6 to 59.0 cm in total length and from 15.9 to 1755.0 g in weight were sampled. The lagenar otolith (asteriscus) length and height, and the utricular otolith (lapillus) length and width were recorded for each fish. The relationships between otolith measurements and fish somatic growth were described by a non-linear function (power model). The
test revealed no considerable differences in these relationships between left and right otoliths. The ANCOVA test on the relationships between total length and otolith variables did not show significant differences between females and males. All relationships were highly significant and the mean percent prediction errors were less than 7%. The results showed that otolith growth reflected body growth.
III. Murat döneminde suhte eşkıyalar, güç merkezi haline gelerek devletle müzakere yapmışlardı. Bu durum reâyâ üzerinde olumsuzluklara sebep olmuştu. XVI. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Kanun-ı Kadimin ...bozulması, devlet kurumlarında bozulmalar meydana getirmişti. Eğitim–öğretim kurumu medreselerde bozulmalar meydana gelmişti. Medreselerde iyi tahsil görmeden mezun olan öğrencilerden (suhte/softa) bazıları, işsiz güçsüz olmaları nedeniyle, devletin de iç ve dış sorunlarla uğraşmasını fırsat bilerek güvenliğin zor sağlandığı köylere girerek köylülere çeşitli zulümler yapmışlardı. Gruplar halinde gezip köyler basarak köylülere çeşitli zulümler yapan eşkıya suhtelere karşı köylüler; gerek taşradaki ehl-i örf ile ehl-i şer’e, gerekse merkezi yönetime arz-ı hallerle durumlarını arz etmişlerdi.
III. Murat, devletin içerisinde bulunduğu koşulları da göz önüne alarak eşkıya suhte temsilcileri ile bir araya gelinip bu sorunun müzakere yoluyla çözümü için gayret sarf etmişti. Devletin, eşkıya suhteleri muhatap alması, bunların varlığını tanıması anlamına gelmekteydi. Buna rağmen merkezi yönetim, siyasi saiklerle hareket etmeyen eşkıya suhtelerle anlaşma yollarını arayarak bu sorunu ortada kaldırmayı amaçlamıştı. Merkezî yönetim, sorunun çözümünde ya güvenlikçi ya da barışçıl yöntemlerle hareket etmiş; ancak, sorunu tamamen ortadan kaldırmaya yönelik tedbirler almamıştı. Şöyle ki, sorunun ana kaynağını oluşturan medreselerin ıslahı yönünde ciddi tedbirler alarak medreseleri ıslah edip eğitim-öğretim programlarını yenileyememişti.
III. Murat’ın, eşkıya suhtelere müzakereci yaklaşımı ve genel af ilan etmesi sorunun çözümünde muvaffakiyet sağlamadığı gibi eşkıya suhtelerin zulümleri, taşradaki ehl-i örf ve ehl-i şer’ ile reâyâ üzerinde baskı oluşturarak XVII. ikinci yarısına kadar da sürmüştü.
