Recent studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNA) exhibit altered expression levels in cancers, and they may be considered as valuable prognostic biomarkers for patients with cancers. We performed ...this meta-analysis to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the role of miRNA-100 expression on the overall survival rate by calculating the pooled hazard ratio (HR) for overall survival (OS), which compared the high and low expression levels of miR-100 in patients of the available studies. Finally, a total of six studies dealing with various carcinomas were involved for this meta-analysis. The results indicated that lower expression of miR-100 in cancerous tissue could significantly predict poorer survival in various carcinomas with the pooled HR of 2.19 (95 % CI 1.49–3.24,
P
= 0.0007). In conclusion, the findings from this present meta-analysis suggest that miR-100 expression is associated with OS in cancer patients and could be a useful clinical prognostic factor for those patients.
We demonstrate the post-induction of high-quality microcavity on silicon photonic crystal (PC) waveguide by integrating few-layer GaSe crystal, which promises highly efficient on-chip optical ...frequency conversions. The integration of GaSe shifts the dispersion bands of the PC waveguide mode into the bandgap, resulting in localized modes confined by the bare PC waveguides. Thanks to the small contrast of refractive index at the boundaries of microcavity, it is reliably to obtain quality (Q) factors exceeding 10^4. With the enhanced light-GaSe interaction by the microcavity modes and high second-order nonlinearity of GaSe, remarkable second-harmonic generation (SHG) and sum-frequency generation (SFG) are achieved. A record-high on-chip SHG conversion efficiency of 131100% W^-1 is obtained, enabling the clear SHG imaging of the resonant modes with the pump of sub-milliwatts continuous-wave (CW) laser. Driven by a pump of on-resonance CW laser, strong SFGs are successfully carried out with the other pump of a CW laser spanning over the broad telecom-band. Broadband frequency conversion of an incoherent superluminescent light-emitting diode with low spectral power density is also realized in the integrated GaSe-PC waveguide. Our results are expected to provide new strategies for high-efficiency light-matter interactions, nonlinear photonics and light source generation in silicon photonic integrated circuits.
A modal interferometer was proposed to realize multi-channel mode conversion in two mode fiber. The near-filed pattern confirmed the LP 01 mode was converted into LP 11 mode at the destructive ...wavelengths. The mode conversion was realized at 20-channels in the C+L wavelength band with conversion efficiency up to 99.5% and insertion loss lower than 0.6 dB.

In recent years, graphene has exhibited ...a great potential in light modulation due to its unique interaction with the electromagnetic field, and attracted increasing attention for applications in photonics and optoelectronics. 2-4. To provide sufficient interaction length, an optical fibre with enhanced evanescent field generated by etched or tilted fibre grating structures 5, 6 is a promising approach. In this paper, we report an integration of multi-layer graphene onto an excessively tilted fibre grating (Ex-TFG, the tilted angle of ~82°) inscribed in thin-cladding fibre, and reveal its special polarization tuning characteristics. In the hybrid waveguide of graphene-integrated thin-cladding Ex-TFG, with strong and distinctive core-to-cladding mode coupling property, the grating can provide not only an accessible evanescent field for the enhancement of the light-graphene interaction, but also two sets of polarization-dependent cladding modes. As depicted in the upper part of Fig. 1(a), we can clearly see the two waveguide attenuation peaks corresponding to the TE and TM polarization status from the bare Ex-TFG. After the graphene coating, from the lower part of Fig. 1(a), we can observe that the larger change of coupling intensity in the TE mode and more pronounced wavelength shift in the TM mode, which attests to the polarization-dependent coupling and interaction with graphene.
We demonstrate a fiber specklegram sensor based on the twist-induced effect in tilted two-mode fiber Bragg gratings (TM-FBGs). The measured LP 21 mode specklegram rotates 4.73 (radm -1 ) with twist ...in the tilted TM-FBGs.

The period of the SP-LPG is determined ...to be 25 μm by a custom-designed amplitude mask, which is placed close to the SMF. The fabricated SP-LPGs were annealed at 80°C for 48 h to stabilize the property. The transmission spectrum measured with non-polarized light clearly shows a series resonances of dual-peak pairs (DPPs). Fig. 1(a) bottom trace depicts the typical transmission spectrum showing two pairs of dual-peaks at1474.7 nm and 1481.0 nm as one pair and 1575.6 nm and 1582.1 nm as the other pair, which agrees well with the simuSmall-period long-period gratings (SP-LPGs) have been fabricated by a UV laser of 244 nm in hydrogen-loaded single mode fibers (SMFs).
