Nonmuscle myosin-IIA (NMHC-IIA) heavy chain phosphorylation has gained recognition as an important feature of myosin-II regulation. In previous work, we showed that phosphorylation on S1943 promotes ...myosin-IIA filament disassembly in vitro and enhances EGF-stimulated lamellipod extension of breast tumor cells. However, the contribution of NMHC-IIA S1943 phosphorylation to the modulation of invasive cellular behavior and metastasis has not been examined. Stable expression of phosphomimetic (S1943E) or non-phosphorylatable (S1943A) NMHC-IIA in breast cancer cells revealed that S1943 phosphorylation enhances invadopodia function, and is critical for matrix degradation in vitro and experimental metastasis in vivo. These studies demonstrate a novel link between NMHC-IIA S1943 phosphorylation, the regulation of extracellular matrix degradation and tumor cell invasion and metastasis.
•pS1943 NMHC-IIA is detected in orthotopic tumors and metastatic lesions.•S1943E NMHC-IIA drives gelatin degradation and MMP9 secretion.•S1943E NMHC-IIA S1943E increases experimental metastasis in vivo.•NMHC-IIA S1943 phosphorylation regulates breast cancer invasion and metastasis.

•We presented a Path-Relinking approach to the MRCPSP.•We designed this method to be simpler than early literature’s methods.•We performed computational tests over PSPLIB benchmark instances using ...PR’s JAVA implementation.•We show that our PR method implementation dominates the previous results within similar computational efforts.
This paper proposes a Path-Relinking (PR) algorithm for the well-known and NP-hard Multi-mode Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (MRCPSP). This problem generalizes the Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (RCPSP) where the project activities have a set of execution modes. For each execution mode, the processing time, the renewable and nonrenewable resource demands are given. The MRCPSP goal is to minimize the total makespan of the project. The PR algorithm works by travelling through the solution space between two solutions, it performs local search around the intermediate solutions. This work also presents computational tests using benchmark instances to compare our implementation with the most competitive methods from the literature. The PR’s computational results improve the earlier results reported for the benchmark instance sets.
Understanding mechanisms in lineage differentiation is critical for organ development, pathophysiology and oncogenesis. To determine whether microRNAs (miRNA) may serve as drivers or adjuncts in ...hepatic differentiation, we studied human embryonic stem cell-derived hepatocytes and primary hepatocytes representing fetal or adult stages. Model systems were used for hepatic lineage advancement or regression under culture conditions with molecular assays. Profiles of miRNA in primary fetal and adult hepatocytes shared similarities and distinctions from pluripotent stem cells or stem cell-derived early fetal-like hepatocytes. During phenotypic regression in fetal or adult hepatocytes, miRNA profiles oscillated to regain stemness-associated features that had not been extinguished in stem cell-derived fetal-like hepatocytes. These oscillations in stemness-associated features were not altered in fetal-like hepatocytes by inhibitory mimics for dominantly-expressed miRNA, such as hsa-miR-99b, -100, -214 and -221/222. The stem cell-derived fetal-like hepatocytes were permissive for miRNA characterizing mature hepatocytes, including mimics for hsa-miR-122, -126, -192, -194 and -26b, although transfections of the latter did not advance hepatic differentiation. Examination of genome-wide mRNA expression profiles in stem cell-derived or primary fetal hepatocytes indicated targets of highly abundant miRNA regulated general processes, e.g., cell survival, growth and proliferation, functional maintenance, etc., without directing cell differentiation. Among upstream regulators of gene networks in stem cell-derived hepatocytes included HNF4A, SNAI1, and others, which affect transcriptional circuits directing lineage development or maintenance. Therefore, miRNA expression oscillated in response to microenvironmental conditions, whereas lineage-specific transcriptional regulators, such as HNF4A, were necessary for directing hepatic differentiation. This knowledge will be helpful for understanding the contribution of stem cells in pathophysiological states and oncogenesis, as well as for applications of stem cell-derived hepatocytes.

•The role of microRNAs in differentiation of stem cells is not well understood.•This study found microRNA levels oscillated during differentiation of hepatocytes.•Many functions but not differentiation were regulated by microRNAs in hepatocytes.•Regulators of gene networks independently maintained hepatic differentiation.•These insights will advance how stem cells may contribute in disease mechanisms and therapies.
•Chlorella sp. and pomegranate seed oil (PSO) maintained the quality of “umbu”.•Coatings reduced weight loss of fruits, besides maintained them firmer and greener.•Ascorbic acid and phenolic content ...were preserved whereas carotenoids declined in fruits with coatings.•Chlorella sp. + PSO extended the shelf life of fruits during cold storage.
Spondias tuberosa is a highly perishable fruit that is difficult to transport, which limits its consumption in local areas. Thus, for economic reasons, there is a need for technologies to extend post-harvest shelf life of these fruits. The aim of this study was to evaluate the life of Spondias tuberosa fruit using edible coatings composed of Chlorella sp. and pomegranate seed oil (PSO) during cold storage. Coated and uncoated S. tuberosa fruits were stored for 12 days at 14 ± 2 °C and 85 ± 5% RH and evaluated every 3 days. Chlorella sp. + PSO coatings retarded ripening, maintained firmness, mass, and a greener color when compared to control treatment – since by default controls are not treated. Coatings in association with the best quality fruit presented 2.0% of Chlorella sp.
Edible coatings based on

Spondias tuberosa
fruits were stored for 12 days, which they were kept at 14 ± 2 °C with 85 ± 5% RH for nine days and then maintained at 24 ± 2 °C with 85 ± 5% RH for the following three days, occurring the evaluations in the periods of 0, 10, 11, 12 days. The coating with 2.0%
Chlorella
sp. maintained the shelf life of umbus for 12 days under the conditions of storage as mentioned earlier and there was the reduction of ripening speed and, consequently, loss of fresh mass, firmness, peel color, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, total sugars. Regarding bioactive compounds, this treatment preserved the content of vitamin C and phenolic compounds. Through these advantages, coatings based on
Chlorella
sp. + PSO may be effectively used as a protective film to prolong the quality and shelf life of
S. tuberosa
, since it’s able to reduce losses significantly caused by deterioration in the marketing chain.
C-RAN (Cloud Radio Access Network) is an architecture designed to the new generation of mobile networks. It has handled many problems arising from the 4-generation network, and made several ...improvements, such as centralized processing and energy efficiency, among others. However, time-varying traffic, known as the tidal effect, impairs the network by making resource allocation less efficient, and this affects network performance in terms of problems related to blocked users and power consumption. This study seeks to evaluate an optimized mapping model between RRH (Remote Radio Head) and BBU (Base Band Unit) by providing a fairer and more efficient load balancing. In addition, this solution is compared with some key algorithms used in the literature for addressing optimization problems. The results demonstrated that, owing to its effective search feature, the Firefly algorithm, was the most promising system, since it obtained better performance measures than the others.

Albert Einstein, world-renowned as a physicist, was also publicly committed to radical political views. Despite the vast literature on Einstein, Einstein and Twentieth- Century Politics is the first ...comprehensive study of his politics, covering his opinions and campaigns on pacifism, Zionism, control of nuclear weapons, world government, freedom, and racial equality. Most studies look at Einstein in isolation but here he is viewed alongside a 'liberalinternational' of global intellectuals, including Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, Bertrand Russell, H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Romain Rolland, Thomas Mann, and John Dewey. Frequently called upon to join campaigns on great issues of war, peace, and social values, they all knew or corresponded with Einstein. Thisvolume examines how Einstein and comparable intellectuals sought to exert a 'salutary influence', as Einstein put it in a letter to Freud. Close attention is given to the unique qualities Einstein brought to his interventions in political debate. His influence derived in the first instance from his celebrity status as the scientist of genius whose theory of relativity was both incomprehensible to most and seemingly relevant to many aspects of aspects of culture and the cosmos. Einstein'scomplex and enigmatic personality, which combined intense devotion to privacy and a capacity to perform on the public stage, also contributed to the Einstein myth. Studying Einstein's politics, it is argued here, takes us not only into the mind of Einstein but to the heart of the great public issues of thetwentieth century.
