In the theoretical part of this paper, the authors present criteriaby which the satisfaction of the public with police workcan be measured. The focus lies on those criteria that are significantfor ...police work in the community and for the reputationof the police as a state organ itself, which is co-responsible for(improving) security in the nation. The empirical part of thispaper is based on a study that included 120 residents from thearea of Slovenj Gradec police directorate. The interviewees hadto give their opinion on various questions or statements abouttheir satisfaction regarding police roadside procedures in thearea that they live in. Furthermore, the authors examined theextent to which the residents are willing to help police officers, how they evaluate their work, on what basis the residents shapetheir opinion and how they evaluate interpersonal competenciesof police officers. The results have shown that the satisfactionof residents with roadside police procedures in SlovenjGradec police directorate is relatively good since the majority ofanswers varies between 3 and 4 on a Likert scale ranging from 1to 5. Even though the evaluations are promising, the authorsconclude the paper with several recommendations.
In the Republic of Slovenia, there exists a special section in the specialized public prosecutor's office that handles all criminal offenses that police officers are suspected of. The purpose and ...objective of this paper is to determine the level of commitment of police officers to their regular police work during/after the procedure. We have used a non-experimental research method, a field study including a questionnaire. The collected data was then analyzed by way of the SPSS program, using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The level of police officers' enthusiasm about performing their regular tasks during and after their involvement in said procedures is slightly below the average. However, we were unable to compare the studied level of these police officers' enthusiasm with a general level of enthusiasm because this research has not yet been done in the Republic of Slovenia. Though the findings are limited to the territory of the Republic of Slovenia due to specific law enforcement solutions regarding prosecution of these criminal acts, they are a useful starting point for further research in this area. This article is useful for police management practice; lower commitment to work in police officers involved in said procedures calls for an adequate response. This article is the first one dealing with commitment of police officers during the procedure carried out by the special section of the specialized public prosecutor's office. Among current discussions on the regulation of prosecution of criminal offenses committed by police officers, this article explains the consequences of these procedures.

A non-experimental research design is used, the method of work is a field study, and the research technology is a questionnaire. Gathered data are analyzed with the help of SPSS for Windows performing descriptive statistic, factor analysis, analysis of variance and correlation analysis.Findings - Findings show that there is connection between formal cooperation (FC), informal cooperation (IC) and satisfaction with cooperation between CID detectives and representatives of various organizations. Representatives of organizations have evaluated cooperation with CID detectives as good. They also indicate that representatives of various organizations are evaluating both forms of cooperation differently.Research limitations implications - Results are presenting assessment of cooperation and relationship between CID detectives and representatives of studied organizations that CID detectives work within offered by workers at the SSC, representatives of Prosecutor's office, Court Investigation Departments, Attorneys-at-Law, Workers at the Administrative Units, representatives of various inspectorate and tax authorities. The theoretical part of this article is based on an analysis of various studies made by ten different foreign authors & eleven different Slovene authors. It focuses on response times of police ...patrols & evaluates if these can function as criteria for measuring police performance. The second segment of this theoretical part discusses findings from Slovenian research on response times, in particular research conducted at one police directorate. The empirical part of this article is based on a study of reaction times with intervention calls to the police between 2001 & 2005 at a Maribor police directorate. This study included 180240 intervention calls & covered five areas: time of establishing connection via the public phone network, waiting time for response, talking time, time of dispatching a patrol car & time for the patrol car to reach the destination. Results show that, on average, a person calling needs seven seconds before connection is established with the emergency center. On average, a call is answered within 30 seconds & lasts four minutes. In 75% of cases, police patrols are dispatched in within 6 minutes. The average response time for patrols to reach the destination is 33 minutes. Considering the large sample size & the long period in which these data have been gathered, the results are relevant for studying response times of police organizations & performance of police organizations. In the theoretical component of the work the two authors present the organizational communication, putting a special emphasis on vertical communication & horizontal communication. Further, they focus ...their attention on the job satisfaction & individual factors, which are connected with the job satisfaction. While discussing this topic, they concentrate especially on the organizational communication. The empirical component of the work entails feedback from 100 police officers in police stations & police departments within the Ljubljana Police Directorate. In a questionnaire these respondents provided their opinion on various statements divided into a number of sections, namely: the first section of statements was referring to vertical communication, the second section of statements was referring to horizontal communication & the third section of statements was referring to job satisfaction of the police officers. The authors have established that the connection between the vertical communication & horizontal communication on the job satisfaction of the police officers. Their key finding indicated that vertical communication connection has a greater influence on job satisfaction of the police officers as the vertical communication accounted for the 30,3 % of the variance belonging to job satisfaction of the police officers. In the case of horizontal communication their findings have proved that this type of communication statistically does not have a major influence on the job satisfaction of the police officers. In the theoretical part of the paper authors talk about police organizations, goals of police organizations, success of police organizations, and public opinion of police work as a criteria of police ...effectives. In the empirical part of the paper authors studied opinions and evaluations towards the work of police officers in the area of Krsko police district and Novo Mesto police district by 128 residents. More specifically they have studied how residents evaluate cooperation with police, how they evaluate their work and their interpersonal competences. Authors determine that citizens evaluate with the highest grade (3,18) interpersonal competents of police officers, they evaluate fairly good (3,14) police officers work, but they are a little less satisfied with police officers procedures (2,98) and with cooperation with police officers (2,80).
Policing is examined from a perspective combining societal law & order & the individual's human rights, & the legal procedures in place in Slovenia to lodge & process complaints against police abuses ...are outlined. The work of special citizen panels, composed of representatives of the police (unions & management), local government, & the public at large is presented. A survey of members (N = 185) of these panels is conducted to determine the relationship between the member's affiliation & his/her fact-finding & decision-making objectivity & fairness, legality, & impartiality of deliberations. Differences are found between members associated with the police vs members that come from outside the police service. Differences are also found across the variables of age, sex, & education. The most significant finding is that panel members from outside the police organization see their role as active & objective contributors to the panel's deliberations & consensus building, while members associated with the police consider themselves primarily to defend the interest, image, & integrity of the police force. An analysis of the attitudes of police officers toward victims of property crime in Maribor & Slovenj Gradec, based on conversational interviews with victims & a review of the literature. The results ...show that the respondents perceived the police officers & criminal investigators as having done a relatively good job & as being trustworthy. Those from the area of Slovenj Gradec Local Police Headquarters, however, were slightly more satisfied than those from Maribor. The major complaint in both areas was that the officers & investigators in the two areas neither dedicate enough time to the investigation nor cooperate enough with the victims. Suggestions are made to improve the situation. 7 Tables, 15 References. Adapted from the source document.
