This paper overviews the state-of-the-art in modern forms of organization, collaboration and flexibility, trends and forecasts of the automotive industry as a representative buyer of tools, machines ...and special equipment, as well as life cycle management, sustainability and possibility for added value creation in these industry sectors. Based on this, a framework called "smart tool, machine, and special equipment" is proposed. A part of the research done on Slovene manufacturers is presented, where the technological indicators important in the implementation of the proposed framework are identified and ranked regarding to their importance. Additional suggestions by the manufacturers are also provided, as well as critical analysis and discussion of the findings.
Cutting parameters, workpiece material and cutting tool geometry and material all have an essential influence on the achievement of desired product quality at acceptable cost. The machining of prior ...cold-formed workpieces is a common production route that is economically attractive. This paper deals with the issue of optimising the turning of raw workpieces of low-carbon steel with low cold pre-deformation to achieve acceptable surface roughness. An attempt was made to minimise the number of experimental runs and increase the reliability of experimental results. Conclusions include a description of the machining parameters' influence and levels that provide sufficient robustness of the machining process towards the achievement of the desired surface roughness.
This paper presnts biomass as a renewable energy source and defines the resources as well as the ways through biomass energy is converted into fuels, the technologies used for extracting the energy ...from biomass as well as the advantages and disadvantages that appear by using of biomass as a energy source. In addition,it is known hydrogen is an important alternative energy vector and a bridge to a sustainable way fot the energy future. Hydrogen is an energy carrier and can be obtained by different production technologies from a large variety of primary energy sources. At present, many researches are focused on getting energy from biomass, a sustainable and non-polluting way to replace fossil fuels, because the biomass can be considered as the best option with high potential, which meets energy requirements and could insure fuel supply in the future. Biomass and residual biomass can be used to produce hydrogen rich gas sustainably. Biomass pyrolysis and gasification offers an efficiency and economical route for the renewable hydrogen production and this is also discussed in the paper.
Following a broad overview of the literature, research articles and extensive studies on topics such as new organizational forms, future trends in the chosen representative market, new enabling ...technologies and the demands of a modern business environment, a concept for the producers of custom tools, machines and special equipment was formed. The concept is based on the hypothesis that it is possible to create added value for the customer through an innovative business model using specific modern organizational and technological approaches. The objective of the research presented here was to first validate and test the basic characteristics of the concept in the eyes of buyers of such custom products. Based on these findings the second research instrument was constructed, targeting producers of custom tools, machines and special equipment. Major trends were validated, priorities and perceived added value in the eyes of the buyers were tested, and the importance of communication and cooperation with stakeholders, as well as use of modern ICT and organizational flexibility in the field was studied.
This research investigates the relationship between innovation expenditure and its economic performance in 2503 companies. The findings show higher innovation expenditure productivity in the group of ...Leaders; each euro invested in innovation yields EUR 13.90, but just EUR 7.70 in the group of Followers. ROE is 40% higher in Leaders. Recommendations are provided as to the improvement of business processes and results: financial investments in innovation should be increased in Followers, while simultaneously a substantial improvement in the efficiency of exploiting existing assets is essential. Companies should increase their expenditure on extramural R&D, acquisition of external knowledge (concept of open innovation model) and market introduction of innovations. Further on, we compared some financial data on Slovenian companies with EU average data. The results clearly indicate that Slovenian innovation expenditures are relatively high but not being applied optimally to achieve economic results that compare to the EU average.
In this paper, machinability of turned steel defined by monitoring of cutting forces, tool wear, surface quality and chip shape is presented. Experimental investigations were performed on untreated ...carbon steel C45E (hardness 45 HRc) and on surface induction hardened steel C45E (surface layer hardness 58 HRc). The analysis of machinability was performed under different cooling and lubrication conditions: conventional flooding, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and a hybrid machining method, i.e. high pressure jet assisted machining (HPJAM). The investigation was carried out for higher values of processing parameters. The results show the advantages of the advanced cooling and lubricating techniques, i.e. an increase in productivity and a reduction in production costs. The analysis of the results shows that the application of HPJAM gives superior machinability. Beside excellent chip breakability achieved in HPJAM, especially in hardened steel machining, significant improvement in tool life and reduction in cutting forces can be achieved.
