Robert Edmond Jones (1887–1954) spent his career as a theater set designer. He also worked on the production of early Technicolor films as a color consultant. As a stage designer, Jones is best known ...for his simplified sets that complemented the action of a production and his dramatic use of color in costuming and lighting. Jones became an innovative force in modern set design for the American theatre and is credited with bringing “The New Stagecraft” to the American drama. He also designed for opera and dance and was named Radio City Music Hall’s first art director in 1932. This collection of essays presents a record of his innovative work and impact on the world of theatre. The volume includes contributions from collaborators. Those interested in stagecraft and the history of modern theatre will find this work a valuable illumination of the method of one of the most important figures in the history of modern theatre.
Abstract Researchers have shown a relationship between mental health disorders and alcohol dependence. However, only 5-10% of individuals with substance use problems co-occurring with mental health ...problems are correctly identified. The purpose of this research was to identify predictors of relapse using three different instruments of varying complexity: the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Modified Mini Screen (MMS), and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III (MCMI-III). Researchers have found that using alcohol produces relief, similar to a pharmacological intervention, from troublesome mental health symptoms that individuals experience. Considering this association, the self-medication hypothesis was the conceptual lens used for the study as it provides a practical framework for analyzing the relationship between mental health disorders and relapse. At the request of this researcher, data were collected on 45 individuals who were provided detoxification services at a public treatment facility in central Wisconsin. Regression analyses were conducted and identified a statistically significant, although weak, predictive relationship between relapse and the variable of depression as measured by the PHQ-9 (R = .311a, R2 = .097, p = .037), and depression as measured by the MCMI-III (R = .364a, R2 = .133, p = .014). The implications for positive social change from this study include the potential to increase the effectiveness and efficiency in identifying co-occurring mental health disorders among individuals who are treated for alcohol detoxification, enhancing the accuracy of referrals for aftercare, and reducing readmissions for detoxification amongst the individuals served.

Caring is a universal need of all humans and central to the practice of nursing as a service profession. This research was conducted in an attempt to discover the meaning of caring to faculty and ...students, to determine how the meaning of caring shaped the students' experiences, and to describe how faculty communicated caring to students. Phenomenological methods were engaged as most appropriate for the understanding sought. A multi-cultural nursing education program with a strong philosophical emphasis on the Native American concept of harmony was chosen as the research site. Data was gathered from the program's philosophy and conceptual framework, interviews with faculty and students, and classroom observations. Data were analyzed for values and actions congruent with caring. Four carative factors identified and defined by Watson (1979) were found to be emphasized within the program: formation of a humanistic-altruistic system of values, cultivation of sensitivity to self and others, promotion of interpersonal teaching-learning, and provision for a supportive, protective, and(or) corrective mental, physical, sociocultural, and spiritual environment. The metaphor of caring as music was developed as a means of summarizing the findings of the study and heightening understanding of caring as a central human and professional service construct.
