Minister of engineering and electrical technology Miroslav Grégr is speaking against a background of the production lines of Skoda Mladá Boleslav after having signed a contract with the company Volkswagen on the acquisition of Skoda. He is emphasizing that, as it was in this case, it is important not to hurry in negotiating and engage the renowned consulting companies in the process so that the best offer for the Czech companies is negotiated. Frequently, the world renowned western companies come up with offers which are sometimes almost offensive.- Information:

President Vaclav Havel came to visit Skoda Plzen. After the revolution, the huge production concern is interesting for the foreign investors, however, all the ailments of the Czech economy are concentrated here at the same time, particularly the difficulties with marketing as well as the outdated machinery. In spite of that, all employees aim to return the brand Skoda to the world market. In his speech Havel emphasized that the path towards a functioning market economy will be long and difficult and within changing the political system there logically is a period of uncertainty, chaos and social upheavals. It is a tax deservedly paid for the fact that we lived under the communism for 40 years without protesting sufficiently.- Information:

Po panoramatu Červeného Kostelce, významného střediska tkalcovského a textilního průmyslu, následují krátké ukázky výrobních provozů četných dílen a továren, jež vznikly v tomto kraji. Poté se kamera zaměřuje na významné přírodní a stavební památky v nejbližším okolí - Jiráskova chata na Turově, zvonice v Červené Hoře, Slatinský most přes řeku Úpu apod.- The first performed scene is telling a local legend about a weaver who is walking through a forest and gets scared by his own weaving warp, which he regards to be a dangerous snake. This legend has given the origin of the folk name of weaver's warp - "hadovina" - refer to the film title. Then you can see the panorama of Červený Kostelec, a well known centre of weaving and textile industry. The film also offers short shots presenting individual production workshops and factories located in this region. We can follow purchasing of fabric from local weavers - in weaving mills belonging to Adolf Svoršík and Jan Škoda; the purchased materials are deposited in stores and then dispatched and transported in a small truck. In the factory belonging to Alois Hanuš they already apply modern industrial machines. The local companies can offer a wide assortment of products, beginning with so-called loop products, through curtains, decorated table cloths, linen, and ending up with men's shirts. The local production is also linked to manufacturing of card boxes. The film then presents a picture of Červený Kostelec and its surroundings, its prominent buildings (a church, school, theatre, the house where lived the famous writer Božena Němcová, etc.), and it also documents some social events, for example Sokol swimming race. Then the camera focuses on significant natural and architecture sights located in the close vicinity of Červený Kostelec - Jirásek Chalet in Turov, the tower bell in Červená Hora, the Slatinský Bridge crossing the Úpa River, etc.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
