Učenje na delovnem mestu je učinkovit način uvajanja študentov terciarnih študijskih programov v delovno okolje, obenem pa preizkus uporabnosti teoretičnih znanj iz predavalnice. V članku se ...poglabljamo v učenje na delovnem mestu na primeru praktičnega usposabljanja študentov turizma v Sloveniji. V teoretičnem delu analiziramo strokovno terminologijo, definicije in različne opredelitve praktičnega usposabljanja ter opredelimo vlogo deležnikov v sistemu praktičnega usposabljanja. V empiričnem delu s primerjalnim presojanjem proučujemo značilnosti obstoječih sistemov praktičnega usposabljanja v kontekstu visokošolskih programov na področju turizma. Namen prispevka je razviti model praktičnega usposabljanja v turističnem sektorju z identifikacijo ključnih komponent v posameznih fazah izvajanja, formalnih podlag in izidov. V zaključku predlagamo izboljšave kakovosti sistemov praktičnega usposabljanja z bolj fokusiranimi pripravami deležnikov na prakso, izrabo raznolikih oblik izvajanja praktičnega usposabljanja, spremljanjem razvoja kompetenc študentov ter intenzivnejšo interakcijo med deležniki iz turističnega in izobraževalnega sektorja.
Bolonjska reforma je v slovensko visoko šolstvo prinesla številne spremembe, ki pri vseh študijskih programih niso povsem enoznačne in enosmerne. Študijski program babištva se v Sloveniji izvaja ...izključno na prvi stopnji, podiplomskega študija za zdaj ni. V raziskavi, ki je temeljila na empiričnem anketnem raziskovalnem pristopu in je bila zasnovana na kvantitativni raziskovalni paradigmi, nas je zanimal interes babic s srednjo izobrazbo za vpis v zdajšnji visokošolski strokovni študijski program babištva prve stopnje ter interes diplomantov in študentov za vpis na morebitni podiplomski magistrski študijski program babištva. Rezultati so pokazali, da je interes anketirancev veliko večji za vpis na podiplomski magistrski študijski program babištva, medtem ko je zanimanje za zdajšnji dodiplomski študijski program babištva nekoliko manjše. Smiselno bi bilo omogočiti nadgraditev kariernih poti diplomantov babištva z možnostjo podiplomskega študija. Ta težnja je upravičena tudi zaradi zahtevnosti babiške dejavnosti in jo potrjujejo tuje usmeritve.
Za slikovno predstavitev mentorja pogosto uporabljajo metaforično podobo mostu, kjer je mentor oseba, ki spodbuja drugo osebo, da vzpostavlja refleksijo o svojih izkušnjah, in deluje kot most, prek ...katerega se mentorirani povzpne k novim oblikam znanja in zmožnosti. Osnovni mentorski model je odnos nekoga, ki je bolj izkušen, z nekom, ki je manj izkušen, z namenom, da manj izkušenemu pomaga, da se kot delujoča oseba integrira v okolje (kulturo), ki je lahko profesionalno, lokalno, umetniško ali kultura, povezana s specifičnimi področji. V pričujočem prispevku obravnavamo v duhu časa pozne moderne in učeče se družbe tiste strategije individualnega mentoriranja, ki sovpadajo z zahtevami hitro spreminjajoče se družbene stvarnosti. Predstavljamo analizo podatkov iz polstrukturiranega anketnega vprašalnika, ki je dal pregled nad množičnostjo in oblikami izvajanja individualnega mentorstva na nacionalni ravni v okviru operacije Razvoj in izvajanje novorazvitih programov za usposabljanje strokovnih delavcev v okviru ministrstva za znanost, izobraževanje, kulturo in šport ter Evropskih socialnih skladov, znotraj nje programa Usposabljanje mentorjev za učenje v dvojicah in (e-)mentorstvo na Slovenski univerzi za tretje življenjsko obdobje. Na podlagi interpretacije podatkov opredeljujemo strategije individualnega mentorstva. V ospredje postavljamo tiste vidike, ki se na prvi pogled lahko zdijo tvegani (primer spodbujanja dihotomij), a prav zato poudarjajo pomen ustvarjalne živosti mentorskega odnosa in ga postavljajo bolj v svet umetnosti kot med obrtne veščine.
Prispevek obravnava vpliv geografskega kurikuluma na kompetence učitelja geografije. V tem okviru namenja posebno pozornost tako pridobivanju kompetenc učitelja geografije kot samemu pomenu teh ...kompetenc za geografsko izobraževanje, pri čemer je jasno razviden kompleksen in simbiotičen odnos med kurikulumom in kompetencami. Kompetence bi morale zato izhajati iz teorij, ki se nanašajo na vrednote, znanje, kurikulum in celoten izobraževalni proces,ki podpira dobro pedagoško prakso.

Poleti 1957 smo se trije pivški študentje, Maks Smrdel, Branko Posega in jaz, vspeli na Triglav. Ubrali smo pot iz Vrat v Bohinj. Planinsko slabo opremljene in kondicijsko nepripravljene nas je skala ...pošteno zdelala. Ob sestopu smo nekaj dalj počivali ob Triglavskih jezerih. In se za spomin na podvig fotografirali. Posamično, v dvojicah in v troje, če je prišel mimo planinec, ki je pritisnil na sprožilec. – Z Maksom (na sliki) sva še leta prijateljevala in snovala pivški zbornik, ki smo si ga zamislili v Postojnskem študentskem klubu. Vendar smo ga v postojnski Kulturni skupnosti uspeli realizirati šele skoraj dve desetletji kasneje: Ljudje in kraji ob Pivki (1975). Maks je bil že več let onkraj življenja, nesrečno je utonil v portoroškem morju. In odnesel s seboj neštevilne pobude in bogato razgledanost po domu in svetu.
Student engagement in academic activities is a critical factor contributing to the overall success of students studying in higher education institutions. Yet the factors influencing student ...engagement in academic activities are still largely unknown. This study begins to address this knowledge gap by investigating the influence of student connectedness (relationships with peers and teachers), motivation to study (sense of purpose) and perception of workload upon student engagement in academic activities. During 2015, a total of 209 students responded to a survey distributed to first-year undergraduate students enrolled in a university business school in Queensland, Australia. Structural equation modelling was used to investigate the proposed relationships. Results suggest that student-student (peer) relationships, teacher-student relationships, and students' sense of purpose for studying a higher education degree, were central to student engagement in academic activities. In addition, teacher-student relationships, and a strong sense of purpose were central to perceptions of student workloads. Finally, sense of purpose was found to moderate the relationship between both teacher-student and student-student relationships and also, perceptions of workload and student engagement. The findings from this study support the importance of developing effective teacher-student relationships, facilitating positive student-student relationships and communicating a clear sense of purpose to students, so as to improve their engagement in academic activities and optimise perceptions of workloads. This study examined the demographic, pre-college, environmental, and college factors that impact students' interests in and decisions to earn a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) ...degree among students attending a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Results indicated that Hispanic students were well represented among STEM majors, and students' decisions to declare a STEM major and earn a STEM degree were uniquely influenced by students' gender, ethnicity, SAT math score, and high school percentile. Earning a STEM degree was related to students' first-semester GPA and enrollment in mathematics and science "gatekeeper" courses. Findings indicate that HSIs may be an important point of access for students in STEM fields and may also provide opportunity for more equitable outcomes for Hispanic students.
Considerable research has examined the positive educational experiences of students of color assigned to teachers of the same race or ethnicity. Underlying this research is the belief that the ...cultural fit between students and teachers has the potential to improve a child’s academic and nonacademic performance in school. This comprehensive review examines the extent to which Black and Latino/a students (1) receive more favorable ratings of classroom behavior and academic performance, (2) score higher on standardized tests, and (3) have more positive behavioral outcomes when assigned to a teacher of the same race/ethnicity. Assignment to a same-race teacher is associated with more favorable teacher ratings, although the relationship differs by school level. There is fairly strong evidence that Black students score higher on achievement tests when assigned to a Black teacher. Less consistent evidence is found for Latino/a students.
