«This comprehensive, insightful and well-researched work is an essential and timely contribution to sustaining the training of healthcare interpreters. It provides an important foundation for ...trainers, researchers and practitioners, based on a thorough and up-to-date reflection on the challenges and needs of healthcare interpreting today, and on the development of training materials for interpreter trainers carried out by the European project ReACTMe. It is a rich, powerful, compelling and much needed book in the field of healthcare interpreting studies.» (Dora Sales, Senior Lecturer, Department of Translation and Communication, Jaume I University, Spain) «This volume breaks new ground by examining health inequities through a pedagogical and justice-oriented lens in the context of healthcare interpreting in Spain, Italy and Romania. By foregrounding specialized training that targets both emerging interpreters as well as trainers, the authors offer a fresh look at teaching and learning for healthcare interpreters by offering authentic, creative resources that can be adapted for any national context.» (Melissa Wallace, Associate Professor of Translation and Interpreting Studies and Director of the Graduate Certificate in Translation & Interpreting Studies, University of Texas at San Antonio, USA) Medical Interpreting: Training the Professionals presents the results of the project Research & Action and Training in Medical Interpreting (ReACTMe) funded by the European Commission, which analysed the interpreting services offered in healthcare settings in Spain, Italy and Romania. This edited collection provides the reader not only with an update on the current situation regarding medical interpreting from different perspectives (decision makers, trainers, professional interpreters, healthcare providers and patients) but also with training resources and a proposal for an academic programme to teach medical interpreters. It is therefore ideal reading for medical interpreting trainers, researchers and practitioners. The book is also of interest to healthcare professionals as it includes a decalogue on how to work with interpreters in five languages.

•New correlations for WSGGM are proposed under oxy-fuel combustion.•Improved models are employed to simulate oxy-fuel combustion in AUSC boiler.•The heat transfer in the furnace ...decreases by 4–11% under oxy-fuel combustion.•Combination of AUSC and oxy-fuel helps better arrange the heat-exchanger surfaces.
The combination of the advanced ultra-supercritical (AUSC) and oxy-fuel combustion technologies is considered the most feasible and promising choice for carbon capture and storage. The high efficiency of AUSC boilers compensates for the cost incurred in controlling CO2 emissions. In this study, a new improved model was proposed for gas-radiative properties as a polynomial function of the continuous molar ratio of H2O to CO2 and temperature, which was compiled as user-defined functions in C language. The modified radiative model was employed in the computational fluid dynamics analysis to simulate a tangentially fired 700°C-USC boiler with a capacity of 300MW under the oxy-fuel condition. The results show that the improved model has a good accuracy for gas-radiative properties compared to other classical models. In the oxy-fuel cases, the heat transfer obtained in the simulation is approximately 4–11% lower than that in the thermodynamic calculation because of the char gasification. The radiative capability of the flue gases in the oxy-fuel case is much greater than that in the air–fuel case with the increase in the molar fraction of oxygen. The heat transfer via the water wall is approximately 4–8% higher than that via air, when the molar fraction of oxygen increases from 26% to 29%. The increase in the heat absorption helps in better arrangement of the heat-exchanger surfaces in the furnace of the AUSC boiler.
With the C programming language comes buffer overflows. Because it is unlikely that the use of C will stop any time soon, the authors present some ways to deal with buffer overflows--both how to ...detect and prevent them.
The Lorenz Curve, from which the Gini Coefficient is derived, is traditionally applied to analyze social phenomena of inequality or unfairness. The mathematical model, however, has tended to be ...employed to investigate large-scale macro-economic issues. As a combination of segmented mathematical methods for computing, it involves a highly complicated computing procedure. To prevent such a weakness on the one hand and to expand the range of applications on the other hand, the present study first implements the integrated Gini Coefficient computer toolbox based on the C language. The model, which is originally applied for economics, can be employed to relevant areas. The salaries of University teachers serve as the object of analysis, the analysis of which can verify the convenience and reasonableness of this mathematical approach.
Slab design is done mainly by manual method or using design and analysis software. In this article, a C coding has been done for the design of a simply supported reinforced concrete slab. The design ...of slabs will differ depending upon the support conditions and also on end conditions. The load condition can also be a variable factor. The design criteria will change with the grade of concrete used, the exposure conditions. These criteria have not taken into account in the coding procedure. Indian standard design procedure has been followed, and the clauses in the IS456-2000, has been followed during the coding. This coding has done to overcome the delay in the manual calculations, to obtain the accuracy in the result calculations. As slab is an import element in the structural design aspect, it has to be designed very carefully. As an input value, the steel area calculation has to be done manually in this procedure. Also the unit conversion is not allowed in the coding, and all the dimensions are to be submitted in meters only.
PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is an international, comparative survey of 15-year-olds' competence in mathematics, science and reading. The purpose of the PISA survey is to ...assess how well students are prepared, by the end of compulsory education, to use their skills and knowledge in these three subject areas in further studies, working life and private life. The survey facilitates analysing changes in the results over time and comparing results from different countries. From a Norwegian perspective, it is particularly interesting to look at similarities and differences between the Nordic countries. The PISA survey is part of a larger quality assessment system. That is to say, the PISA program is one of several sources of information utilized in assessing the quality of Norwegian schools. PISA surveys have been conducted every three years since 2000, with the exception of the 2021 survey, which was postponed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This report presents the first results from the eighth iteration of the survey, PISA 2022, in which mathematics was the primary subject area. The report has been written for a general audience, in addition to school administrators, teachers, teaching students and others concerned with the state of Norwegian secondary school education.

This book presents an innovative African philosophical response to coloniality and the attendant epistemicide of Africa’s knowledge systems, drawing on Igbo thinking. This book argues that theorizing ...modernity requires a critical conversation between African and Western scholarship, in order to unpack its links with coloniality and the subjugation of Africa’s indigenous knowledges. In setting out this discussion, the book also connects with Latin American scholarship, demonstrating how the modern world is structured to marginalize and destroy knowledges from across the Global South. This book draws on Igbo epistemic resources of solidarity thinking, positioned in contrast to capitalist knowledge-patterns, thereby providing an important Africa-driven response to modernity and coloniality. This book concludes by arguing that the Igbo sense of solidarity is useful and relevant to modern contexts and thus constitutes a vital resource for a less disruptive, more balanced, and more wholesome modernity. At a time of considerable global crises, this book makes an important contribution to philosophy both within Africa and beyond.
