In this interview - conducted at the Boys' Life editorial offices by a reporter brave enough (O.K., O.K., truth is The Boss made him) to spend more than five minutes in close quarters with the ...subject - regular readers of the comic page "Pee Wee Harris" will recognize the interviewee's charming little - how shall this be put? - faults. Why, I remember the time when Roy Blakely - he's my patrol leader - and I got this GREAT OLD RAILROAD CAR for a Scout meeting place, and we were going to ride it down to Bridgeboro from Brewster's Corners, where it was parked, only the RAILROAD LOST US and pulled us to about a JILLION OTHER PLACES before they finally got us home. "There is much to enjoy and admire in 'Schulz and Peanuts,' a biography of Charles Schulz by David Michaelis. The basic story, of how a not conspicuously gifted but very determined barber's son from ...St. Paul, Minnesota, rose to become the richest cartoonist of all time, warms the heart in traditional American fashion. Michaelis...never met Schulz but has interviewed almost everyone still alive who brushed against the lonely, self-contained creator of 'Peanuts,' and has taken good advantage of the superabundant interviews that the cartoonist, jealous of his privacy though he was, gave to reporters..." (New Yorker). An in-depth profile of Schulz's life and artistic career is provided. Biographical elements in his "Peanuts" comic strip are noted.
