Abstract
Two well‐known texts on altars from Delos (
RES

M
349, we interpret the Greek inscriptions as later additions, the purpose of which was to inform readers who were unfamiliar with the Old South Arabian script of the deity venerated.
It was only in the mid-1990’s that Digital Libraries became a research topic in Europe. The European Union was then instrumental in supporting and promoting the subject. One key element of that ...support was the establishment of the DELOS Network of Excellence. Its central role in the development of digital libraries in the period 1997-2007 in Europe and its contributions are outlined in this paper.
Through the analysis of the jewels described in the sacred inventories of Delos dating back to the Hellenistic period, we will attempt to understand what criteria are instrumental in determining the ...function of the adornments recorded in different temples of the island: their type, material, mode of exhibition, weight and quality are all indices which, if combined, can help us to establish whether the jewels are offerings made for strictly votive purposes (to adorn the cult statues), or offerings coming from the daily private sphere to be dedicated in an ordinary votive gesture.

Fabry disease is a lysosomal storage disease arising from a deficiency of the enzyme α-galactosidase A (GLA). The enzyme deficiency results in an accumulation of glycolipids, which over time, leads to cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and renal disease, ultimately leading to death in the fourth or fifth decade of life. Currently, lysosomal storage disorders are treated by enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) through the direct administration of the missing enzyme to the patients.
In view of their advantages as drug delivery systems, liposomes are increasingly being researched and utilized in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries, but one of the main barriers to market is their scalability.
Depressurization of an Expanded Liquid Organic Solution into aqueous solution (DELOS-susp) is a compressed fluid-based method that allows the reproducible and scalable production of nanovesicular systems with remarkable physicochemical characteristics, in terms of homogeneity, morphology, and particle size. The objective of this work was to optimize and reach a suitable formulation for in vivo preclinical studies by implementing a Quality by Design (QbD) approach, a methodology recommended by the FDA and the EMA to develop robust drug manufacturing and control methods, to the preparation of α-galactosidase-loaded nanoliposomes (nanoGLA) for the treatment of Fabry disease.
Through a risk analysis and a Design of Experiments (DoE), we obtained the Design Space in which GLA concentration and lipid concentration were found as critical parameters for achieving a stable nanoformulation. This Design Space allowed the optimization of the process to produce a nanoformulation suitable for in vivo preclinical testing.
Football is one of the most popular team sports globally. Both amateur and professional footballers face the risk of injuries during training and matches. To mitigate this risk, a study was conducted ...focusing on training to improve postural stability – a crucial element in sports injury prevention. The study involved 20 boys aged 14–15 years, training at a professional football club, with a mean height of 172 cm and a body weight of 58.5 kg. The intervention comprised additional training sessions held twice a week over three months, utilizing the Delos Postural Proprietary System platform. Each training session lasted 15 minutes. As part of the study, the footballers underwent the ‘RIVA’ test, assessing postural stability with eyes closed and open before and after the intervention. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in both trials, 4.3% and 2.1%, respectively. When compared with findings from other studies, it is reasonable to conclude that this form of additional training may contribute to a reduction in injuries, especially among young football players.
Background. Proper postural control and proprioception are essential for maintaining balance, preventing falls, and performing daily activities. Traditional methods of assessing postural control and ...proprioceptive function often lack objectivity and precision. The DPPS offers a promising solution by providing a quantitative and comprehensive evaluation of postural stability and proprioceptive performance.
Methods. The DPPS utilises advanced sensor technology and computerised analysis to measure various parameters related to postural control, including stability indexes, weight distribution, sway patterns, and proprioceptive responses. It incorporates both static and dynamic tests, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of postural control in different conditions.
Results. Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the DPPS in evaluating postural control and proprioception in various populations, such as athletes, older adults, individuals with balance disorders, and patients undergoing rehabilitation. The DPPS has shown good reliability and validity, with its measurements correlating well with other established assessment tools. It has also proven to be sensitive in detecting changes in postural control and proprioceptive function over time.
Conclusions. The DPPS represents a valuable tool for objective assessment and monitoring of postural control and proprioceptive function. Its ability to provide quantitative data in a reliable and sensitive manner makes it an attractive option for researchers, clinicians, and rehabilitation professionals. By enhancing our understanding of postural control and proprioception, the DPPS can contribute to the development of targeted interventions and personalised treatment strategies aimed at improving balance, preventing falls, and optimising functional performance.

The administration of hydrophobic actives and drugs for medical or cosmetical purposes generally requires a formulation that ensures adequate water solubility, which can be achieved through the ...encapsulation in liposomes. For the vehiculation of (+)-usnic acid (UA), a hydrophobic compound with antioxidant activity, we have prepared liposomes in a one-step process using compressed CO2. The investigated formulations are mainly composed of 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine and cholesterol, but contain also a small molar fraction (10%) of a synthetic surfactant derived from L-prolinol. In previous investigations liposomes containing L-prolinol derivatives showed a higher efficacy as DNA or drug delivery systems with respect to liposomes of mere phospholipids. As a consequence, they were added to liposomes to make them more suitable UA delivery systems. By testing different surfactant chain lengths and headgroups, we studied how the chemical nature of the surfactant affects the physicochemical vesicle properties and their interaction with UA. Most formulations, especially those containing surfactants with longer alkyl chains (C14 and C16), show a good potentiality as UA delivery systems because they exhibit a higher stability, vesicle-to-vesicle homogeneity and bilayer compaction with respect to analog liposomes prepared by the conventional thin film hydration previously investigated. Our results confirm the advantages of DELOS-SUSP also in the case of mixed liposomes containing phospholipids and synthetic ionic surfactants. Moreover, this study demonstrates that liposomes composed of the same lipids can feature different properties if prepared according to different methodologies. In addition, this investigation points out that also the properties that a solute included in the bilayer show can be affected by the technique used for liposomes preparation.
