How can small cities make an impact in a globalizing world dominated by ‘world cities’ and urban development strategies aimed at increasing agglomeration? This book addresses the challenges of ...smaller cities trying to put themselves on the map, attract resources and initiate development. Placemaking has become an important tool for driving urban development that is sensitive to the needs of communities. This volume examines the development of creative placemaking practices that can help to link small cities to external networks, stimulate collaboration and help them make the most of the opportunities presented by the knowledge economy. The authors argue that the adoption of more strategic, holistic placemaking strategies that engage all stakeholders can be a successful alternative to copying bigger places. Drawing on a range of examples from around the world, they analyse small city development strategies and identify key success factors. This book focuses on the case of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, a small Dutch city that used cultural programming to link itself to global networks and stimulate economic, cultural, social and creative development. It advocates the use of cultural programming strategies as a more flexible alternative to traditional top-down planning approaches and as a means of avoiding copying the big city. Latin America and the Caribbean are increasingly experiencing the effects of climate change. Over the past two decades, the countries in the region have experienced as many as 1 350 natural disasters ...attributable to the climate, affecting more than 170 million people. We analysed climate risks in Latin America and the Caribbean, expanding the analysis to understand what these risks imply for the financial sector, particularly for banks. We conclude that the aggregate physical climate risk of the banking sector is the highest in the Caribbean while for transition risk the picture is more homogenous. Finally, we note that capital flows for climate projects in the Latin America and the Caribbean region have been lagging other regions in the world. Against the backdrop of considerable financing needs, the international financial community and public development banks have an important role to play to support both public and private green investments providing long-term, patient funding at affordable rates and sharing part of the risks.
Kako podrobno so jih analizirali? Navedeni izsledki odpirajo nekatera pomembna vprašanja glede politik gospodarskega okrevanja (mest), predlaganih v The Economistu.

Bosnu i Hercegovinu karakteriziraju niska ekonomska aktivnost, velika nezaposlenost, nekonkurentna radna snaga, veliki odljev radne snage u reproduktivnoj dobi, a sve navedeno rezultira velikom ...socijalnom isključenošću, nepovoljnom dobnom strukturom, strukturnom nezaposlenošću i siromaštvom.

This paper analyzes the perceived service quality in the sharing economy, specifically in the accommodation and transport sectors. The aim of the research was to determine differences in service quality perceptions among users in these sectors and to identify which category of service quality is more important to them. The research was based on two categories of service quality: technical and social. The survey was conducted on a sample of 327 respondents, and the research sample consisted of users of the sharing economy in accommodation and transport in Croatia. The results show that for users of accommodation and transport services, it is important that the application is regularly updated to quickly receive new information and to make service selection easier. Additionally, both groups of users believe that they have multiple benefits from this service, such as the ability to meet other people and a sense of security. However, there is a statistically significant difference in user perception in certain aspects of the social category of service quality. Specifically, the social category has been shown to be extremely important in accommodation sector studies. The desire for community and social interaction is a reason for choosing this type of accommodation over traditional forms. The role of the host is crucial in the choice of accommodation, and guests appreciate staying with a host because it provides them with the opportunity for authentic experiences. These results can be useful for service providers in the sharing economy in accommodation and transport to better understand the preferences and expectations of their users and improve the quality of their services.
Universities have been subjected to continuous government reforms since the 1980s, to make them 'entrepreneurial', 'efficient' and aligned to the predicted needs and challenges of a global knowledge ...economy. Under increasing pressure to pursue 'excellence' and 'innovation', many universities are struggling to maintain their traditional mission to be inclusive, improve social mobility and equality and act as the 'critic and conscience' of society. Drawing on a multi-disciplinary research project, University Reform, Globalisation and Europeanisation (URGE), this collection analyses the new landscapes of public universities emerging across Europe and the Asia-Pacific, and the different ways that academics are engaging with them.
