The primary goal of this research was to determine students' attitudes toward India's competitive NEET exam. It is an entrance examination in India for students who want to attend any graduate ...medical degree, dentistry course, or postgraduate programme in government or private medical institutes for MBBS and BDS courses, NEET-UG (undergraduate). The purpose of NEET is to alleviate the mental and financial pressure on medical students who must take as many as 17 different tests throughout the country in a time-consuming, expensive, stressful, confusing, and often opaque system. Many states have opposed, stating that NEET does not correspond to their curriculum and that tests in only English and Hindi are unfair; nevertheless, these objections can be addressed by developing a unified curriculum and delivering NEET in vernacular languages. It also examines the impact of the COVID-19 programme on learning anatomy, as well as comparing students' perceptions of "face-to-face" versus "online" competitive exams, and evaluating their impact on student performance.The goal of this study was to find out what causes student stress when they are studying for a competitive exam.We have gathered those significant reasons that students face, as well as their benefits and drawbacks, in this paper on Student's Perception of Online Competitive Exam "NEET EXAM." Our research included a fact study and predictive analysis of relevant records and data related to our research objective, which assisted us in coming to a conclusion about this, as well as its challenges and opportunities
Myopia is the leading cause of preventable blindness in children and young adults. Multiple epidemiological studies have confirmed a high prevalence of myopia in Asian countries. However, fewer ...longitudinal studies have been performed to evaluate the secular changes in the prevalence of myopia, especially high myopia in China. In the present study, we investigated trends in the prevalence of myopia among high school students in Fenghua city, eastern China, from 2001 to 2015.
This was a population-based, retrospective study. Data were collected among 43,858 third-year high school students. Noncycloplegic autorefraction was used to determine refractive error, which was defined as low myopia, moderate myopia, high myopia and very high myopia according to the spherical equivalent from the worse eye of each participant. The prevalence of myopia was calculated and the annual percentage change (APC) was used to quantify the time trends. All analyses were conducted using the SPSS, Stata and Graphpad Prism software.
From 2001 to 2015, the prevalence of overall myopia increased from 79.5% to 87.7% (APC =0.59%), with a significant increase of moderate myopia (38.8% to 45.7%, APC = 0.78%), high myopia (7.9% to 16.6%, APC = 5.48%) and very high myopia (0.08% to 0.92%, APC = 14.59%), while the prevalence of low myopia decreased from 32.7% to 24.4% (APC = - 1.73%). High myopia and very high myopia contributed the major part of the increasing trend of myopia prevalence (contribution rate 27.00% and 69.07%, respectively).
During the 15-year period, there was a remarkable increase in the prevalence of high and very high myopia among high school students, which might become a serious public health problem in China for the next few decades.
Under China's exam-oriented educational system, high school students are under high pressure, especially before they undertake the National College Entrance Examination. In China, the National ...College Entrance Examination is also given the meaning of the top priority in the life of most parents. This study focuses on the influence of Chinese high school students' test anxiety on their National College Entrance Examination results. The results show that the more anxious the examinees are, the less satisfactory their scores are. On the contrary, the less anxious they are, the better their scores are. Exam anxiety is negatively related to the scores of the National College Entrance Examination. This study has important research value for the field of high school education and psychological distress in China. It fills the gap in the research on the impact of college entrance examination anxiety on the scores of senior high school students, provides a reference for the follow-up research on the mechanism of intervention in high school students' anxiety, and also makes the society and school parents pay attention to the problem of high school students' exam anxiety.
This study explored how the GRE Analytical Writing Section Discussion Forum, an informal online language learning community in China, functioned to support its members to improve their English ...writing proficiency. The Community of Inquiry (CoI) model was used as the theoretical framework to explore the existence of teaching presence, cognitive presence and social presence in the GRE Analytical Writing Section Discussion Forum. The transcript analysis of postings in the GRE Analytical Writing Section Discussion Forum was used to find the existence of teaching, cognitive presence and social presence, and an adapted CoI survey was sent to members to measure their perceived teaching, cognitive and social presences. The results showed strong evidences of teaching presence, cognitive presence and social presence, and high levels of perceived teaching, cognitive and social presences in the GRE Analytical Writing Section Discussion Forum. The well‐designed technological environment, distributed teaching presence shared by moderators and members, and extensive evidences of social presence in the discussion forum worked together to support learning in the GRE Analytical Writing Section Discussion Forum.

Given that the ability to attend to a task without distraction underlies performance in a wide variety of contexts, training one's ability to stay on task should result in a similarly broad ...enhancement of performance. In a randomized controlled investigation, we examined whether a 2-week mindfulness-training course would decrease mind wandering and improve cognitive performance. Mindfulness training improved both GRE reading-comprehension scores and working memory capacity while simultaneously reducing the occurrence of distracting thoughts during completion of the GRE and the measure of working memory. Improvements in performance following mindfulness training were mediated by reduced mind wandering among participants who were prone to distraction at pretesting. Our results suggest that cultivating mindfulness is an effective and efficient technique for improving cognitive function, with wide-reaching consequences.
Given Chinese students often perform well academically despite the challenges of their competitive academic environments, it is important to explore what enables the academic resilience of these ...students. Moreover, because the extant resilience literature is biased towards Western accounts of resilience, it is crucial that non-Western perspectives be added to this literature. In this study, three factors from family and school settings were examined: namely, parental supervision, school involvement and recognition, and school expectation of behaviour. We did so among 693 11th grade Chinese students from two of the largest provinces participating in the competitive college entrance examination in China. Participants completed a questionnaire comprising a series of individual, family, and school variables that were complemented by academic achievement data drawn from school records. Results showed that Chinese parents' supervision and school involvement and recognition are significantly and negatively associated with low school commitment and individual conflict attitude, which are important protective factors in reducing adolescents' risk of problem behaviours and promoting academic resilience. This study highlights the importance of taking a multidimensional approach to building academic resilience among those from highly competitive settings in China.
High school GPAs (HSGPAs) are often perceived to represent inconsistent levels of readiness for college across high schools, whereas test scores (e.g., ACT scores) are seen as comparable. This study ...tests those assumptions, examining variation across high schools of both HSGPAs and ACT scores as measures of academic readiness for college. We found students with the same HSGPA or the same ACT score graduate at very different rates based on which high school they attended. Yet, the relationship of HSGPAs with college graduation is strong and consistent and larger than school effects. In contrast, the relationship of ACT scores with college graduation is weak and smaller than high school effects, and the slope of the relationship varies by high school.
The present study aims to examine gender differential item functioning (DIF) in the reading comprehension section of a high stakes test using cognitive diagnosis models. Based on the multiple-group ...generalized deterministic, noisy "and" gate (MG G-DINA) model, the Wald test and likelihood ratio test are used to detect DIF. The flagged items are further inspected to find the attributes they measure, and the probabilities of correct response are checked across latent profiles to gain insights into the potential reasons for the occurrence of DIF. In addition, attribute and latent class prevalence are examined across males and females. The three items displaying large DIF involve three attributes, namely Vocabulary, Main Idea, and Details. The results indicate that females have lower probabilities of correct response across all latent profiles, and fewer females have mastered all the attributes. Moreover, the findings show that the same attribute mastery profiles are prevalent across genders. Finally, the results of the DIF analysis are used to select models that could replace the complex MG G-DINA without significant loss of information.
Those who compete in the Gaokao, China's College Entrance Exam, are often referred to as Gaokao zhanshi, or warriors. Based on long‐term ethnographic research, this article examines how Gaokao ...warriors combine two types of agency that are conventionally considered contradictory: the docile cultivation of virtue and the struggle against social marginalization. I argue that analyzing this nuli fendou, or diligent struggle, can contribute to a more complex understanding of the Gaokao and similar educational competitions.
