Penelope Anderson's original study changes our understanding both of the masculine Renaissance friendship tradition and of the private forms of women's friendship of the eighteenth century and after. ...It uncovers the latent threat of betrayal lurking within politicized classical and humanist friendship, showing its surprising resilience as a model for political obligation undone and remade. Incorporating authors from Cicero to Abraham Cowley and Margaret Cavendish to Mary Astell, the book focuses on two extraordinary women writers, the royalist Katherine Philips and the republican Lucy Hutchinson. And it explores the ways in which they appropriate the friendship tradition in order to address problems of conflicting allegiances in the English Civil Wars and Restoration. As Penelope Anderson suggests, their writings on friendship provide a new account of women's relation to public life, organized through textual exchange rather than bodily reproduction.
In this paper, we introduce a new type of labeling of a graph G with p vertices and q edges called edge delta- graceful labeling, for any positive integer delta, as a bijective mapping f of the edge ...set E(G) into the set fdelta, 2delta, 3delta, ..., qdeltag such that the induced mapping f.sup.* : V(G) right arrow {0, delta, 2delta, 3delta, ..., qdelta - deltag, given by f.sup.*(u) = (summation.sub.uvmember ofE(G) f (uv)) mod (deltak), where k = max (p, q), is an injective function. We prove the existence of an edge delta- graceful labeling, for any positive integer delta, for some cycle-related graphs like the wheel graph, alternate triangular cycle, double wheel graph W.sub.n,n, the prism graph PI.sub.n, the prism of the wheel P(W.sub.n), the gear graph G.sub.n, the closed helm CH.sub.n, the butterfly graph B.sub.n, and the friendship Fr.sub.n.

Women in Victorian England wore jewelry made from each other’s hair and wrote poems celebrating decades of friendship. They pored over magazines that described the dangerous pleasures of corporal ...punishment. A few had sexual relationships with each other, exchanged rings and vows, willed each other property, and lived together in long-term partnerships described as marriages. But, as Sharon Marcus shows, these women were not seen as gender outlaws. Their desires were fanned by consumer culture, and their friendships and unions were accepted and even encouraged by family, society, and church. Far from being sexless angels defined only by male desires, Victorian women openly enjoyed looking at and even dominating other women. Their friendships helped realize the ideal of companionate love between men and women celebrated by novels, and their unions influenced politicians and social thinkers to reform marriage law. Through a close examination of literature, memoirs, letters, domestic magazines, and political debates, Marcus reveals how relationships between women were a crucial component of femininity. Deeply researched, powerfully argued, and filled with original readings of familiar and surprising sources, Between Women overturns everything we thought we knew about Victorian women and the history of marriage and family life. It offers a new paradigm for theorizing gender and sexuality--not just in the Victorian period, but in our own.

Abstract
Friendship is a relationship that can endure across the entire lifespan, serving a vital role for sustaining social connectedness in late life when other relationships may become ...unavailable. This article begins with a description of the importance of studying friendship in late life and the benefits of friendship for older adults, pointing to the value of additional research for enhancing knowledge about this crucial bond. Next is discussion of theoretical approaches for conceptualizing friendship research, followed by identification of emerging areas of late-life friendship research and novel questions that investigators could explore fruitfully. We include a presentation of innovative research methods and existing national and international data sets that can advance late-life friendship research using large samples and cross-national comparisons. The final section advocates for development and assessment of interventions aimed at improving friendship and reducing social isolation among older adults.
This comprehensive work presents a thorough exploration of celebrity ‘bromances,’ interrogating how bromances are portrayed in media and consumed by audiences to examine themes of celebrity persona, ...performativity, and authenticity. The authors examine how the performance of intimate male friendships functions within broadly ‘Western’ celebrity culture from three primary perspectives: construction of persona; interactions with audiences and fans; and commodification. Case studies from film and television are used to illustrate the argument that, regardless of their authenticity (real or staged), bromances are useful for engaging audiences and creating an extension of entertainment beyond the film the actors originally sought to promote. The first truly interdisciplinary study of its kind, this book will be of great interest to scholars and students of communications, advertising, marketing, Internet studies, media, journalism, cultural studies, and film and television.
The research has investigated middle aged women and the changes in their friendships after joining auniversity. It was observed changes in old friendships, and also the establishment of new ones at theuniversity. The research was based on eight women, between 40 and 60 years old, who had beensubjected to a semi structured interview. The data were subjected to content analysis and the results wereorganized in five categories: interpersonal relationship at the university, development and characteristicsof new friendships, activities involving new friends, differences between new and old friendships, androutine changes in old friendships. The final results show that, after participants got into university, allfriendships suffered modification.
