From what we observed on the economic policy choices of the Brazilian government in face of the pandemic challenge, we now briefly present the measures adopted by the governments of France, the ...United States, and Argentina. The choice of France is due to it being a neoliberal government, but with a strong state; the United States is the biggest economy in the world and was under the command of Donald Trump, who is explicitly supported by the current Brazilian president; and the analysis of the Argentinian case is due to it being the second biggest country in Latin America, behind only of Brazil, and having a government that is critical to neoliberalism.
We have experienced an economic recession since 2015, which was aggravated in the years 2016-2018, and further worsened during the Bolsonaro government, mainly by the arrival and progress of the ...COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of cases of the new coronavirus in Brazil and, consequently, the implementation of the necessary measures of social isolation (which were relaxed before the required time, according to several statements of infectious diseases doctors), the government did little and did not pay attention to the many proposals that could ensure the reduction and the end of the isolation policy, mitigating the economic impacts for the population in general. With the objective of launching proposals to address the economic impacts of the pandemic, a large group of professors from the Institute of Economics (IE) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) proposed, on March 17, 2020, several measures, which will be taken as a privileged object of analysis in this text. At the moment, this article intends, by exploring each of these measures, to take them as a guideline for a balance of the recent economic policies of Bolsonaro’s government. In its second part, we also seek to make a brief comparison between the Brazilian pandemic-economic situation and the international scenario, especially the policies carried out by the governments of France, the United States, and Argentina.
The Brazilian Minister of External Relations’ speech at the graduation ceremony of the Rio Branco Institute, Brazil´s diplomatic academy, on October 22, 2020, has been widely commented for the ...general revulsion it caused. Due criticism was made to the absurdities uttered in abuse of the new diplomat’s graduation patron, the late and beloved poet João Cabral de Melo Neto, together with the Minister´s positive evaluation of Brazil´s becoming an outcast in the international community. Besides having never counted on any remarkable achievement in his career, the strange character who now occupies Baron of Rio Branco’s chair at the Foreign Office, an unknown author of an ignored book, displayed his lack of modesty by declaring himself “a diplomat and poet” like João Cabral, and by stating that he did not see any problem, but virtues only, in Brazil's present diplomatic isolation. While stressing a sui generis distorted conception of freedom, he affirmed that “today´s Brazil speaks of liberty throughout the world”, in order to underline the fact that Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump were, perhaps, the only Heads of State who approached that issue at the recent inaugural meeting of the United Nations’ General Assembly.

Isso foi o que ocorreu com um mito kuniba, narrado a Nimuendaju por Carolina, em uma situação de remoção forçada promovida pelo Estado brasileiro no ...começo do século XX. O mito em questão falava da origem da lua, ocasionada pelo incesto de um irmão com uma irmã. Até o começo do século XX, povos vizinhos dos Kuniba, como os Cashinahua e os Kanamari, tinham narrativas muito distintas sobre a origem da lua. No entanto, ao longo do século, com a partida dos Kuniba, o tema do incesto entre irmão e irmã passa a estar presente nas narrativas, difundindo-se pela região das bacias dos rios Juruá e Purus. Isso conduz a uma reflexão sobre o problema da “causalidade informacional”, sobre a “política externa” estabelecida entre diferentes povos e sobre a “dialética espacial” promovida pelos mitos.

A promoção da extensão em nível de graduação e pós-graduação é uma demanda crescente nas universidades brasileiras. Eventos de divulgação científica com ênfase na Astronomia Observacional são ...atrativos para diversos públicos, além de uma excelente atividade para ser realizada em espaços públicos, parques e praças. Neste texto, relatamos a realização de uma ação de extensão desenvolvida como um evento público, que consiste em várias atividades relacionadas à Astronomia, com foco na observação da Lua. Anualmente, a Administração Nacional da Aeronáutica e Espaço dos Estados Unidos (Nasa) promove a International Observe the Moon Night (IOMN) ou Noite Internacional de Observação da Lua. O evento pode ser realizado de maneira presencial por grupos do mundo inteiro, associado a outras atividades científicas. O projeto Ciência no Parque, idealizado e executado por docentes e discentes da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido (Ufersa), no município de Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, realizou a primeira IOMN da cidade, reunindo mais de mil pessoas no evento. É esperado que este relato de experiência possa ser replicado por outras instituições e que se consolide ao longo dos anos como uma ação de divulgação e educação científica.
Objetivo: identificar a relação das fases da lua com o início do trabalho de parto de parturientes atendidas em uma maternidade de risco habitual. Método: estudo transversal, com coleta retrospectiva ...de dados de uma maternidade de risco habitual em Curitiba, Paraná, em 2018. Os dados foram coletados entre março a maio de 2021 e analisados de forma estatística. Resultados: foram analisados 1.963 internamentos, prevaleceram mulheres entre 20 a 29 anos (58,5%), primigestas (41,4%), com 39 semanas de gestação (25,9%), nascimento via vaginal (87,4%), atendidos por médicos (44,2%) e enfermeiros obstetras (43,6%). O maior número de internamentos foi na fase Quarto Minguante (26,5%); não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre o número de internamentos nos dias de mudança de fase da Lua em relação aos outros (p= 0,942). Conclusão: a não relação das fases lunares com o início do trabalho de parto auxilia a desvendar crenças populares sobre gestação e parto.

O antigo problema das marés, fenômeno observado desde os primórdios da humanidade, ainda nos lega análises importantes. Nesse trabalho, a partir do estudo desse fenômeno, mas levando em conta a ...gravitação, determinamos características da Lua, tais como como a massa, volume e aspectos da composição química. Essa determinação é feita usando um tipo de método inverso, proposto por Henrique Fleming. Essa abordagem nos permite reexaminar a análise qualitativa de Galilei sobre o problema, partindo exclusivamente dos movimentos da Terra. Apontamos para a importância da formulação galileana, criticada em certos estudos.
The ancient problem of tides, phenomena observed since the humanity early days, still today provides important analysis. In this work, starting with the study of tides, but considering the law gravity, we determine Moon’s characteristics, such as mass, volume, and some aspects of its chemical composition. This approach is carried out by using an inverse-like method, proposed by Henrique Fleming. The formulation provides a way to revisit the Galilei qualitative studies about tides, starting exclusively from the Earth motion. We point out the importance of galilean formulation, what is under criticism in some studies.
As an efficient and multi-platform scripting language, Lua is gaining increasing popularity in the industry. Unfortunately, Lua's unique advantages also catch cybercriminals' attention. A growing ...number of IoT malware authors switch to Lua for malicious payload development and then distribute malware in bytecode form. To impede malware code analysis, malware authors obfuscate standard Lua bytecode into a customized bytecode specification. Only the attached interpreter can execute that particular bytecode file. Rapid recovery of Lua obfuscated bytecode is essential for a swift response to new malware threats. However, existing generic code deobfuscation approaches cannot keep up with the pace of emerging threats. In this paper, we present a novel reverse engineering technique, called interpreter semantics testing . Given a customized interpreter used to execute obfuscated Lua bytecode, we construct a set of LuaGadgets that can adapt to the customized interpreter. Each LuaGadget contains a carefully chosen opcode sequence to fulfill an observable calculation-it is designed to test one or two particular opcodes at a time. Next, we mutate unknown opcode values to generate a bunch of test cases and run them using the customized interpreter; we can observe the expected result only when the mutation hits the opcode's right value. We perform test case prioritization to cost-effectively recover the semantics of all obfuscated opcodes. Our approach makes no assumptions about the interpreter's structure and is free from analyzing the numerous execution traces of opcode handlers. We have evaluated our tool, LuaHunt , with Lua malware variants and real-world applications. LuaHunt is able to recover the obfuscated bytecode's semantics within 90 seconds for each test case, and all of our deobfuscation results can pass the correctness testing. The encouraging results demonstrate that LuaHunt is a promising tool to lighten the burden of security analysts.
Leading-edge supercomputers, such as the K computer and Fugaku, have been designed to achieve the highest computational performance possible as well as to tackle “Grand Challenge” class of ...simulations with unprecedented scale. This significant increase in the simulation scale has directly imposed a pressure on the entire end-to-end simulation workflow, which includes the pre- and post-processing such as the visualization. During the simulation code development and refinement process in such HPC environment, a variety of auxiliary computational systems with different hardware and software configurations can be employed for the post-processing activities. Therefore, a visualization application capable of running on such heterogeneous hardware environment, which uses common visualization pipeline workflow and unified abstract representation becomes highly valuable. In this paper, we present a visualization framework, named HIVE (Heterogeneously Integrated Visual-analytics Environment), designed to meet these requirements by using lightweight and cross-platform Lua scripting language for describing the desired visualization pipeline workflow, which was named as “Visualization Scene” script. Different visualization pipeline functionality modules such as data loading, rendering, and image compositing written in C/C++ programming language can be utilized via Lua by using its binding functionality. HIVE has currently integrated some cross-platform modules, and is capable of running on different hardware systems, ranging from x86 laptops to SPARC64 based supercomputers with tens of thousands of processors. As a future direction, we expect to include the supercomputers using Arm-based Fujitsu A64FX CPU such as the Fugaku, which is under installation, and other commercial systems from Fujitsu and Cray.
