McManus profiles Charles Nodier, highlighting his article The Fantastic in Literature published in Revue de Paris in 1830. Nodier holds the dismal distinction of being the most important French ...romantic that people have never heard of. A child prodigy, Nodier was reading Montaigne and Plutarch, and writing fluently in French and Latin, by the age of ten. By twenty-five he had vandalized a guillotine, founded the ironically Freemasonesque anti-Jacobin society called the Philadelphes, published one of the first French works of scholarship on Shakespeare, and served a month in prison for criticizing Napoleon in the poem "La Napoleone." It was only then that he got serious, and in 1806 Les tristes was published, a collection of short stories, poems, dialogues, and essays that marked him as a disciple of the Romanticism of Goethe and Schiller.
This article analyses the correction work carried out by Charles Nodier, one of the most important French lexicographers of the 19th century, as editor of the

. Based on a selection of entries from Nodier’s
(1828), where he critically commented on the different editions of Boiste’s dictionary (1800, 1803, 1812 and 1823), we study whether Nodier followed his own recommendations and corrected these entries in his work as editor of the
(1834).

This paper analyzes the contributions of Théodore Géricault to the second volume of Baron Isidore Taylor, Charles Nodier, and Alphonse de Cailleux’s Voyages pittoresques: Normandie (1820; 1825) ...within the context of French Restoration historiography. It argues that Géricault’s prints are allegorical commentaries on the production of visual history during this period as much as they are examples of it.

This article studies the literary work of Charles Nodier, pioneer of the fantastic narrative in France, as he transfers biblical images into his stories. This analysis explores the intersections of literary narrative, the transposition of biblical images and the results of the insertion of those modified images in a new network of meaning. This intertextuality favors the creation of a new cosmogony that offers a new interpretation of the supernatural cosmos.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
This study accurately runs through all the editions and translations of Ossian's poems and Scott's "Lady of the Lake" consulted by Nodier in order to prepare his travel to Scotland. We have ...identified the very copy of Chapman's guidebook used by Nodier on this trip. Thanks to this guidebook, Nodier modifies his travel plans and reorganizes the story of his expedition in the form of new quest for the Holy Grail: the Highlands and Ben Lomond become the subject of this quest. An unpublished letter of Nodier to Pr Hooker can be found as attached document.
