This paper surveys work relating to Roman inscriptions published during the period 2001–2005. The main aims are to signal important newly discovered inscriptions, significant reinterpretations of ...previously published texts, new trends in the scholarship on the subject and recent studies drawing heavily on epigraphic sources, as well as to report on the progress of major publishing projects.
This paper examines the corpus of over 500 Roman inscriptions from London by studying them as a unique category of archaeological find, one with data relating to the object, the inscription, and the ...find-spot. The author uses information published in the fascicules of Roman Inscriptions of Britain and in Britannia and links this data to maps of Roman London created for The Archaeology of Greater London (2000). Evidence for ‘zoning’ within Roman London is considered by comparing official and private inscriptions. Inscriptions suggesting retail activity are examined, as are the types of inscription found in London's waterfronts, which are used to suggest different areas of specialism within London's port. Finally, the paper looks at the inscriptions written by men and women, and by citizens and non-citizens.
U članku se donose tri dosad neobjavljena epigrafska
spomenika koji su iskorišteni kao spoliji. Sva tri
evidentirana su u splitskoj užoj gradskoj jezgri, odnosno
na području Dioklecijanove palače.1 ...Dva se
nalaze na pročeljima građevina, a jedan je ugrađen u
dvorišni zid. Svi fragmenti pripadali su nadgrobnim
spomenicima: jednoj nadgrobnoj ari, jednoj steli ili
titulu te sarkofagu ili steli. Podrijetlo ovih spolija ne može se sa sigurnošću utvrditi, budući da su svi uzidani
u građevine dosta kasnije od Dioklecijanove palače.
Pretpostavlja se da dva fragmenta uzidana na pročelju
dosad nisu bila objavljena zbog toga što su nekoć bila
prekrivena žbukom koja je u međuvremenu uklonjena.
Dva se spomenika mogu datirati u razdoblje od
1. do 3. stoljeća, odnosno prije Dioklecijanove palače,
dok je jedan fragment mogao pripadati i kasnijem
razdoblju. Tekstovi natpisa otkrili su nekoliko imena
koja su relativno rijetko zastupljena na natpisima Dalmacije.
Excavation at Alchester in 2003 revealed an almost complete tombstone of a veteran of the Second Augustan Legion. This provides the first known biography of any person living in pre-medieval ...Oxfordshire. He is arguably also the earliest legionary veteran attested in Britain. All other tombstones of legionary veterans in Britain come from the main base of their legion or a veterans' colony. Since there is nothing to suggest that Alchester ever became a colony, it must have been the main base of the legio II Augusta and thus Vespasian's base (a case supported by other indications, notably the fortress's foundation date of a.d. 43/44), unless it is the only known exception to the rule.

Dealing with Roman inscriptions not only involves publishing
individual inscriptions or assembling corpora of a
particular town and its ager. Corpora (or epigraphic databases
abroad) constitute the ...basis for further research.
The most widespread among the epigraphic works are
onomastic studies, which are possible on practically all
inscription slabs since names are recorded on all nonfragmentary
inscriptions. The author strives to present the
onomastic situation in the area of Celeia. In the interest of
a better insight into the names and, thereby, also into the
inhabitants behind these names, she decided to divide all
preserved names from Celeian inscriptions precisely. This
division in particular facilitates an insight into certain
principles of Romanization but says little of the chronological
situation. Individual groups of names also reveal
the legal and social status of the inhabitants.
Članak obrađuje rimske natpise na spomenicima i tegulama pronađenim na području Varaždinskih Toplica, a koji su do danas objavljeni. Ima ih trideset i šest, a najčešće su ih postavljali vojnici i ...građani, uglavnom kao zahvalu bogovima za zdravlje. Na natpisima se spominju različiti bogovi, a postavili su ih dedikanti koji pripadaju različitim slojevima društva - vojnici različitih službi te građani. Također je obrađen i jedan carski natpis, jedini takav pronađen u Varaždinskim Toplicama. Pozornost se obratila i na legije koje su spomenute na natpisima te na njihovo kretanje i boravak u vrijeme podizanja natpisa. Članak obuhvaća i pečate na tegulama te podatke o ciglarima koji su ih izradili. Natpisi uglavnom prate različite faze gradnje koje je imalo naselje, a kroz iste se može pratiti i kako se kroz vrijeme mijenjao karakter posjetitelja.
Autor se sintetski pozabavio rimskim natpisima s Pelješca. S tim u svezi on nudi sliku poznatih tekstova i odnosnih provenijencija te zapaža neke karakteristike zauzimanja toga prostora u rimsko ...doba. Predlaže također novo čitanje natpisa Kalvidije Sekunde iz Janjine u kojem se spominju dva magistrata naronitanske kolonije. Konačno objavljuje neke nove fragmentirane natpise.

barn at Calcot Farm near Beverstone in Gloucestershire, drawn by
S.H. Grimm. There are ...roman remains found in the area, which is
close to the Roman settlements of Gloucester and Cirencester. In
particular a number of Roman tombstones have been found along the
old roman road between Glevum (Gloucester) and Aquae Sulis (Bath).
A roman relief was found in the barn of Calcot Farm near Kingscote
in 1795, and is now in the Ashmoleum Museum,
