In Yuriko Saito, everyday aesthetics interlinks with ethics by means of the socalled moral-aesthetic judgments, where the formal assessment of the practical object depends on how beneficial it is to its user. This interest in the person who has to make use of the artifact, bringing an experience of otherness, of virtually putting oneself in someone's else position, connects with Hume's sympathetic functionalism, but goes beyond by extending to the vulnerable other that the welfare society tends to through the ethics of care. This allows us to consider the aesthetics of daily life in Saito as an aesthetics of care. Keywords: Everyday Aesthetics; Saito; Ethics of Care; Hume; Empathy.

This paper takes meals, rather than food itself, as its focus. Meals incorporate the project of nutrition into human life, but it is a contingent matter that we nourish ourselves in this way. This ...paper defends the importance of meals as meaning-makers and contrasts them with art in that regard. Meals and art represent interestingly different extremes with respect to how needs for meaning are met. Artworks ask for coordination of experience, understanding and appreciation: the meaning of art is to be experienced. The meaning of meals is enacted and accumulates collectively, but need not be experienced.
