This article reviews conceptualizations from three academic areas: the sociology of art, the psychology of creativity, and research on the cultural and creative industries. These are compared with ...findings from a critical discursive study with UK practitioners. The meanings and associations these maker artists attach to creativity are discussed as a practitioner concept. For the practitioners, the association of creativity with art carries a promise of transcendence and escape from ordinary life but also a potential challenge to their own entitlement and claims to a creative status. These findings demonstrate that the academic areas utilize different and conflicting conceptualizations and, second, that the practitioner concept is not consistent with any one of these. In conclusion, the contemporary celebration of creativity is based on different meanings and unacknowledged conflicts. Future social psychological research on creativity requires a more critical approach to the concept.

The purpose of the article is to implement music studies analysis of «Karpatske kaprytchio» by Viktor Telychko, to reveal the key biographic dominants of the opus, to confirm the master’s subjective ...concerns implemented through the prism of creativity ascending the level of defining the region’s chronicle concepts. The research methodology encompasses a range of the following approaches: music studies, hermeneutic, biographic, culture studies, analytical, systemic, and theoretic generalization. The music studies method has been used to grasp the style and genre parameters of the suggested creative pattern. The hermeneutic method has been applied to interpret the senses presupposed by the author of the masterpiece. The biographic method has enabled considering Viktor Fedorovych’s chronicles, while the culture studies method has helped revealing various processes of the locus existence. The analytical method has been used to study the literature referring to the research issue. The systemic method has enabled comprehensive review of the question under consideration; the theoretic generalisation method has been used to summarise the research outcomes. Scientific novelty. For the first time ever in national humanitarian studies, «Karpatske kaprytchio» by Viktor Telychko was researched, and the idea of the artwork featuring the master’s biography and Zakarpattia’s history indirectly, was justified. Conclusions. «Karpatske kaprytchio» is a significant phenomenon of contemporary Ukrainian artistic domain. It reflects psychological characteristics of the regional dwellers (their optimism, humor, expressiveness, religiosity, and admiration of the nature); the paradigm basis of regional composer’s school (interpreting the microcosm images, reflecting the region’s polyethnic individuality, philosophic features, and the chamber nature of the utterance); the specifics of Viktor Telychko’s personal style (the grasp of a considerable range of avant-garde, traditional technologies of composing music, national identity, and autobiographic characteristics). Biographic dominants within the opus are revealed not as a consistent development of the plot or a definite narration of essential events, but as those through the cultural symbols, codes, and semantic prognostications. By decoding them, the recipient obtains information about the genesis, development of the master’s talent, civil position, outlook focuses, and relationships with people. By manifesting the concepts of personal biography, the master demonstrates the fundamental chronical parameters of the locus ontology and transfers the political, social, spiritual vicissitudes, as well as displays its mental and civilisational features.
One’s native musical idiom is of great importance for the growth and development of a child. However, despite the frequent mention of this concept in the methodological literature, we cannot find it ...clearly defined anywhere. Therefore, in this study, we first defined the native musical idiom through a multidisciplinary approach, then we pointed out its role in the development of the ability to perceive (the melody, harmony and rhythm), the acquisition of songs, rhythmic abilities and music memory, and then emphasized its role in the acquisition of new music material. The ultimate goal of this study is to indicate the necessity of establishing beginner music education classes in elementary schools (first and second grade) on material which represents the native musical idiom of the environment in which a child is growing up.
In the context of the world’s new order in music, artists search, negotiate, sell, and justify their importance through the power of their art and through the skill with which they attract attention ...to themselves. We hear ever more often of approaches to new artistic products, conventional and unconventional repertoires, to preserving and encouraging tradition or finding new ways of artistic survival, by bringing creation closer to the (increasingly limited) capacity of the uninformed audience to understand classical music works. This paper discusses the necessity to guide art pedagogy towards a new horizon that may increase the degree of relevance that artists evince on the large cultural market. The suggestions we offer stem from the conclusions of several case studies in which the alumni of Romanian conservatories detect certain flaws of their professional training when they seek employment or try to be their own managers after graduation. The material is completed by a set of interviews with managers of cultural institutions which highlight the importance of supporting new guidelines in music pedagogy.

In this paper, the authors examine artistic engagement with famine memory by six women artists working in the Irish and Ukrainian contexts: Alanna O’Kelly, Paula Meehan, Mary McIntyre, Oksana ...Zabuzhko, Nataliia Vorozhbyt, and Lydia Bodnar-Balahutrak. Representing famine in artistic form is mired in ethical challenges. When interpreted at the level of national narratives, such histories can become identities and form a part of the collective ethos. Work by women artists is critically positioned to challenge the strong association between the feminine and the nation found in nationalistic discourses in both Ireland and Ukraine. The artists examined here work across genre and media, yet all eschew stereotypical imagery and prescribed vocabulary for representing famine, thus engaging in the complexities such representation offers. Framing their analysis with Bracha Ettinger’s concept of aesthetic wit(h)nessing, the authors find in the work of contemporary female artists in Ireland and Ukraine opportunities to encounter and grapple with famine memory without immediate recourse to commemoration or resolution. It is thus in the work of women artists today that one finds both a rupture and a call: a rupture to representing famine memory in modes that promote ownership and invite appropriation, and a call to consider what practices, rituals, and acts of wit(h)nessing have sustained life and remembered the dead after famine.
Sociologists traditionally focus on the power of socio-economic variables as drivers of aesthetic tastesand cultural practices, leaving other important factors outside the purview of analysis. As a ...remedy, this articlemakes use of recent progress at the intersection of the sociology of culture and network theory to show thatindividual interest in and preferences for art are also embedded in social relationships of a different kind. Datafrom a specially designed survey on personal networks and cultural tastes in Polish society is analyzed. Culturaltaste is measured in detail by presenting respondents with ten color illustrations depicting different styles of visualart. These ten evaluations are then reduced to two significant dimensions (traditional vs. more modern art). Theregressions analyses show distinct relations of network characteristics (such as heterogeneity, type of contacts, density, or associational membership) with the type of art preferred. The findings are interpreted in terms ofsocial influence and affinity between cultural orientations (e.g., openness) and the manners in which social tiesare developed and maintained. Additionally, the article sheds light on distinction patterns by arguing that statusis claimed through specific (modern) preferences.
