The electrical engineer Nikola Tesla is one of the scientists who made the most important contributions to the development of electrical
science and technology in the last 100 years. During its 86 ...years of life, the majority as a resident of the USA, dedicates them to
subjects as diverse as electricity and electromagnetism, among others, anticipating in several decades the physics of their time. He is
considered the father of alternating electricity flow, with granted patents, some of them after his death. His life is fascinating, not only
for his inventions but for the stories and stories that surround him. It stars in the famous period known as the Battle of the Electricity
flow, whose opponent was the renowned Thomas Alva Edison, an environment that has served as a script for various documentaries
and films. The purpose of this paper is to describe part of its history and, especially, of this famous period. We hope that readers
will be as fascinated with the life and work of this character, as many of us are when we appreciate the invaluable legacy of their
technological developments.
For the past 30 years, media historians have consistently interpreted George Du Maurier's 'Edison's Telephonoscope' (Punch, 1878) as a depiction of television. Scholars treat the illustration as a ...literary document conveying an image of what Victorians thought television one day might become. But this interpretation is incomplete because it neglects the multiplicity of frames of reference readers bring to the image. Leafing through the December 9 issue of Punch in context strikes the reader with a very different impression of the 'Telephonoscope.' Du Maurier's title resonated with readers, who would have recognised the distance-hearing-and-speaking device not as a visual telephone but in connection with the much-ridiculed 'ear telescope,' or megaphone, that Edison had tried to promote earlier in the year. Other memorable caricatures, including the 'Museum of Modern Invention' and 'Edison's Anti-Gravity Underclothing,' appeared on adjacent pages to 'Edison's Telephonoscope.' Punch's cartoon could be read as a satire of Edison's public image: a statement against technological innovation. This article urges readers to look past surface appearance by examining the reception of 'Edison's Telephonoscope,' along with the phonograph, megaphone and electric light. By establishing connections to other 1878 events, Edisonian inventions and the misunderstandings that arose from communicating across the Atlantic, this article argues for an interdisciplinary approach that acknowledges the contexts in which cultural representations circulated.
A brief overview of the major technical achievements of Thomas Edison, an outstanding American inventor, author of more than 1,000 US patents and several thousand patents in other countries, honorary ...academician of the USSR. Presents biographical information and details of the formation of Edison, his work as a telegrapher, organizing the world's first industrial research laboratory for the continuous development of technological innovations, as well as some interesting facts about his life and work. This includes pioneering work on the creation of Edison incandescent lighting, the distribution system for their power and cinema. Edison can be considered the founder of the multimedia technology, as it was the beginning of the invention of the phonograph of phonics and disc phonograph recording of depth was the basis of mechanical recording. Name Edison are geographic features, a lot of companies and educational institutions. He was a member of many Academies of Sciences and entered the list of "100 most outstanding people for 1,000 years." Bust open in the Hall of Fame of great Americans, and a bronze statue - sculptures at the National Hall on Capitol Hill.
Antoine Picon, Professor of the History of Architecture and Technology at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), and the author of a significant new book, Ornament: The Politics of Architecture and ...Subjectivity (John Wiley & Sons), publishing in April 2013, provides the counterargument to this issue. He argues that for innovation to go beyond the superficial level of being a mere design trend or fashion, it needs to avoid ‘presentism’ and develop a reflexive stance to history and tradition.

I present a guide to some of the locations and figures associated with the history of physics in Philadelphia, from colonial times to the present, including a walking tour and additional excursions. ...Highlights include sites related to Benjamin Franklin, discussions of the lives and work of important physicists at the University of Pennsylvania, a sketch of the early history of the Bartol Research Foundation, and a description of some of the laboratories and observatories in the Philadelphia area.
Technology is business, and dealing with the media, the public, financiers, and government agencies can be as important to an invention's success as effective product development. To understand how ...rhetoric works in technology, one cannot do better than to start with the American inventor Thomas Alva Edison and the incandescent light bulb. Charles Bazerman tells the story of the emergence of electric light as one of symbols and communication. He examines how Edison and his colleagues represented light and power to themselves and to others as the technology was transformed from an idea to a daily fact of life. He looks at the rhetoric used to create meaning and value for the emergent technology in the laboratory, in patent offices and courts, in financial markets, and in boardrooms, city halls, newspapers, and the consumer marketplace. Along the way he describes the social and communicative arrangements that shaped and transformed the world in which Edison acted. He portrays Edison, both the individual and the corporation, as a self-conscious social actor whose rhetorical groundwork was crucial to the technology's material realization and success.
This article explores how early American cinema and US imperialism are inextricably bound together in a thorough exploration of cinematic representations of the Philippines in US film both during and ...immediately after US colonization of the islands. The article carefully considers the significance of the film and discursive records remaining from the 1898-1904 period in order to explore how filmic representations reproduced US imperialist ideologies and spread US imperialist fantasies as a commodity.

Bláthy Ottó Titusz (1860-1939). Tatán született, iskoláit is itt, illetve Bécsben végezte. 1882-ben szerzett gépészmérnöki oklevelet a Bécsi Műegyetemen. 1883-ban lépett a ...Ganz-gyár kötelékébe, mint gépszerkesztő. Munkássága egész életére a gyárhoz kötötte. Legjelentősebb találmánya az 1885-ben Zipernowskyval és Dérivel közösen megalkotott transzformátor. A transzformátorokat Bláthy javaslatára zárt vasmaggal készítették. Közös munkájuk a korabeli elektronika egyik legfontosabb találmányát eredményezte. Száznál is több szabadalma főleg a villamos gépek területére vonatkozott.
Titusz Ottó Bláthy (1860-1939). His most significant invention is the transformator that he constructed together with Déri and Zipernowsky in 1885. The transformator was built with a closed iron core, as suggested by Bláthy. Their joint work resulted in one of the most significant inventions in the electronics of the time. His more than one hundred patents are mostly related to electrical machines.
